Well, I am back up North. Thank goodness. It was so disheartening having my half stopped at 10 km... I would have kept going... those darn race organizers!!!! But, I am looking at doing around the bay... Around the Bay 30k Road Race, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada which is the oldest road race in North America. It is a 30 km... figure that is a good middle ground between the half and the full. Any takers??? My weight is the same as when I left 157.2 seems to like that number, but we'll see what we can do. I hope you are all good. dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/157.2/148???

Hi I'm back... Life has been tough... freezing rain for my half so that decided to only do a 10 km... I did it but was not happy with my results. I have been eating a little too much... Peter's mom (my dh) fell and broke her hip so we have been in primary care of dad for the past week. What a holiday!!! But oh well. I'll let you know what the scales says when I am back in Kuujjuaq. I had a glorious 14 km run on Saturday to make me believe!!! I hope you all are well. Julie you look so good it makes me sick!!!!! Bye, Dawn

Okay... you guys are all so great. Can I say that it was -8 C, here and with the windchill it was -12!!! Yep winter in the Canadian Arctic. Ran a good 5km this morning (26:14). Yep.. running in this weather I must be an athlete. 12 days until my half marathon!!! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/157/148

Couch to 5K - Week of 11 ? 17 November
DeltaDawn replied to losingjusme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Losing... that is awful. I really don't know what I would do if I couldn't run. Hopefully it won't be long for you and there are other exercises out there. Keep the great attitude!!! BTW- run 21.1(1/2 marathon today) as my last training run before my 1/2 on December 2nd. My time was 2:06... I am officially tired and proud and liking that it burns 1500 calories!!! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/156/148 -
Of course I would chime in right after Julie!!! I am beginning to feel like an athlete, but it has been a long time coming. I run- today I ran 21.1km in training for my 1/2 marathon in two weeks. I have not had plastic surgery so, extra skin means some muscles don't look as toned as I would like, but I have those muscles and never knew they existed. I know I am a athlete because: -I want the weather to be good so I can get out there - I too (wink Julie) spend more money on running clothes than anything else - I can hike, walk, climb stairs without a thought - my body tells me so -when it hurts, I know it will strengthen me in the long run - because I choose to move... because I can now!!! Hallelujah! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/156/148 "I run because I can!!!"

Julie- I am officially happy that you figured out that you are officially not fat!!!! Of course you aren't!!!! I too have been wondering if any more of this weight will come off. I am still shooting for 148. I wear a size 10 Pant (usually) and a large top (got those boobs - what's a girl to do!). I would love to be an 8, but I think the extra skin will prevent that. Today I am happy and feeling like it has been a long and worthwhile road. Dawn Banded April 4, 2006 Montreal 358/156/148

I just wanted to say that I just ran my 20 km, with an extra 1.1 on the end, since I was still a bit from home. I did it and I am so happy!!! Time for the 20 which is what I clocked 1:59:08... I am thankful today that I can do this. Thanks for all your support!!! Dawn

Hi everyone, and happy Friday! Well, I can say that this week I was really on task about food intake. I haven't really lost any weight in a month, so I decided it was time to see the scales move. Finally it did. My weight this morning was 155.4 So, I am getting closer to goal. My long run - 20km is scheduled for tomorrow, but it looks like a blizzard. I might play hookey from work and run this afternoon. This is my last long run before my 1/2 marathon in 2 weeks... yikes!!! Betty, how is it going with the fill? Boo, how goes the exercise. Julie, how are you feeling after the ps??? Have a great weekend everyone!!! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/156/148

losing jusme's quest to the Minnie marathon
DeltaDawn replied to losingjusme's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Losing just me... there are days like that. When I started running I ran for 30 seconds and walked for... I don't know 5 minutes... it took me three months before I could really increase my run time. After years of abuse to my body, I needed to give it time to adapt. It was tough though!!! I had a great run this morning btw... 5 km in 26 minutes!!! Which is a pace of 5:11 a km... Yep I am Canadian can you tell. BTW I lived in Toronto for years!!! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/158/148 -
Julie... I was checking your time all the way through the NYC marathon... I actually cheered when you finished. I am so jealous and proud and thankful that we can run!!! You go girl!!! I am not running disney (Florida) this year... my kids really want to be home for their birthdays, so I decided to switch things around... but Julie... can we make a date for 2009?? Instead I am running a really small half just outside of Toronto on December 2nd. I actually think it will be better for me as I am really feeling like I am almost ready. I ran 19 km on Friday... so great. My time was just under 1:55... so was happy. It felt good. I have 1 long run left (20 km) and then I start tapering. My weight is still sitting there...message from body to me perhaps??? Anyhow... I hope we are all well, happy, strong and taking tender care of us. Dawn Banded Arpil 4th, 2006 Montreal 358-158-148

Hey Losing me... my 19 km went really well. I took me 1 hour and 55 minutes. I took 3 short breaks to walk (1 was actually to pee!!!). On these long runs I take Water and a snack. I was tired after but not spent. My pace... yep I clock that... was 6:02 a km. So thanks for asking. How long is your turkey trot? You should be so proud of yourself!! Couch to 5K - Week of 04 ? 10 November
DeltaDawn replied to losingjusme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi! Eating for me is still a matter of control and portion. I basically eat about 1500 calories a day and find with that that I am losing about 2 pounds a month... I know it is slow, but I need the calories to keep the running going. On my long run day I have to take a snack with me en route, or I run out of energy. I eat a lot of fruit, salad and yogurt, very little meat and some carbs. Hope this helps. Tomorrow is my 19 km run... wish me luck! Dawn Banded Arpil 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/158/148 -
Couch to 5K - Week of 04 ? 10 November
DeltaDawn replied to losingjusme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Losing me...you look great! I saw your pics on the before/during spot and you really look good. My typical running week is very regimented. Now I have had to build to this, but here is where I am after running for 1 year... Sunday- fun run just for me... no time... no pressure... I take my pokey puppy and we have fun Monday- off Tuesday- 5km - as fast as I can - I do not stop and this is my least favourite run... it is the hardest in intensity. I usually do it around 27:30 (my first 5 km was 38:20... so improvement does come) Wednesday- off Thursday - 35 minutes of interval training, run easy pace for 5 minutes and then 30 seconds really fast (this usually ends up being a total run of 6km give or take) Friday-off Saturday- distance run, depending on what I am building up to. Right now I am training for a 1/2 marathon on December 2nd, so this Saturday my run will be 19 km... I never add more than a km a week. When I am not training for an event, I keep everything the same except my long run alternates between 10km and 15 km... that way I still burn the calories (can you believe 1400 calories last week for my 18 km run!!) and am able to quickly gear up for a long event if I want to. You guys are so impressive. You are the ones who want this and therefore you will succeed!!! Good luck!!! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/158/148 -
Couch to 5K - Week of 04 ? 10 November
DeltaDawn replied to losingjusme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
JM, Can I just say that for some reasons tough runs happen. a few months ago when I ran my 10 km the only way to describe it was ugly... I had trained well and it should have been fine but oh it was so not. I have talked to a lot of my running friends and sometimes for no reasons days are just like that. Some days my short run feels like crap and then two days later my long run is fun and easy????? I am heading out the for 35 minute intervals... it is cold (-8 degrees- I live in the Arctic) so this will be a tough one. As I read these stories of perseverance I am so proud to be part of this entire group. Dawn Banded Arpil 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/158/148 -
Couch to 5K - Week of 04 ? 10 November
DeltaDawn replied to losingjusme's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, Can I just pop in with a word of encouragement? A year ago I started the couch to 5 program... needed to do every week twice. I started in November 2006, ran my first 5 k in March 2007, ran a 10 km in June (which was too fast), ran another 5 in September and have been training for a 1/2 marathon that I will do December 2nd. Right now I am building my training and this weekend I will do 19km. I hope this doesn't sound to 'braggy' I just wanted to say it can be done!!!!! I love running and I am so happy to find it!!!!! Good luck to all of you!!!! You can do it!!! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/158/148 -
Hi again, Where is everyone??? I am good. 18 km this morning and I am tired but happy. Julie... I just watched the olympic trials, and was thinking of you and your race tomorrow. You go girl!!! Dawn Banded April 4th, 2006 Montreal 358/158/148

I just have 1 word to say to all of you BLIZZARD!!!!! Oh and I am thinking of you on your big weekend Julie!!! Hope all is well. I lost the one pound I gained, so I am happy with that. Dawn Banded April 4, 2006 Montreal 358/158/148

Hi guys, I hope you are all well. Boo... the fires sounded so horrible. I was thinking of you and glad to know that you are okay. Betty... how are you today? Life can be tough, but you are sooo amazing!!! Julie... 5 days eh (that's the Canadian in me coming out!) I am jealous and happy for you. I know you will do grand. Yo have trained hard, you are ready, you deserve it. Never doubt those truths! Well, my weight is bouncing right now, but I knew it would. The good news for me is I had a great 17 km on Saturday, followed by a wicked fast 5 km today. I was at a pace of 8:56 per mile so that makes me smile!!! (and want to vomit too). Also, we have had a family change of plans. Long story short... my kids want to be here, at home for their birthdays- so no disney 1/2 for me... so I found a small 1/2 in Ontario (near Toronto) that I will run on December 2nd. It is a really small one, but who cares!!! I am sure I will be ready by then. 4 weeks to build and 1 to taper (it's ony a half). Maybe my next big one will be with you Julie!!! I hope you all have a good week!!! Dawn Banded April 6th, 2006 montreal 358/159/148

Hi Everyone, Julie, sorry about the guy you were interested in. Life can be tough, but someone better is out there waiting for you I am certain! I can imagine that tapering it hard. I am not looking forward to that stage too much, although the entire way through my training I have been putting in a low week every 4 or 5 weeks. Tomorrow I run 17 km. Betty, Boo how are you? I have just finished meaningful, exhausting meetings this week... so I will try to have a good day and get caught up on my work!! Have a good weekend!! Hello everyone, I think a big group hug is needed!! Betty, cancer is so awful. I am sorry for your DIL and for you. My thoughts are with you!!! Julie... it sounds like you are doing everything you can do. Train the upper body like crazy and keep in mind that bodies have memories and your body will remember!!!! You will be running again soon. For me, I finished leading the workshops this week. It was quite stressful, but three days of training for the teachers and now, I am taking it easy. Today is a break day from running... but the big news is that my weight is creeping down... finally I hit the 200 lb lost mark!!!!! Thanks for all your support. Betty.... our thoughts are with you. Julie you are going to be fine! I remember freaking out about hurting myself in the spring. I have been crazy busy at work so I haven't been on line much. I'll update you later. Dawn Banded April 4, 2006 Montreal 358/159/148
