If they send the EKG with you or forward to the cardiologist, he'll review it, and may order some stress test, or an echocardiogram (sonogram of the heart). But it will all be up to the cardiologist what he feels is going on. At this time don't think you need to worry. I have an irregular heart beat which they call PVC's. They are common in people. The surgeon just wants to make sure all will be okay.

Tiny you are in my prayers that all turns out well for you. My heart goes out to you and your children.

I hope my surgeon didn't make a mistake
oldoneyoungagain replied to Amanda R's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
But she is stating the scan is showing the remaining part of the stomach, if that is the case, then she had to have had bypass. They couldn't leave a non-functioning stomach that is not being fed with blood as it would rot then she would be in a world of hurt. This is just my thoughts. -
Did I make the right decision?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Jabedn's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
If you have a good case manager there shouldn't be any problem, just the procedure changed and there is a good explaination as to why. Your insurance company probably doesn't want to pay for this again and that is what would happen with your reflux problem and having the sleeve. I know a lot of people want the sleeve, because they can continue eating sweets and fats without an issue. But when I had to decide whether to have the sleeve or RNY, I did a lot of research, because I didn't do that with the band which had to be removed (trust me I didn't have one bit of a problem with the band) but later found out the failure rate and had I known I would have gone with RNY to begin with. The sleeve is newer than the band and for me there wasn't enough research done on its good points and its bad points. RNY has been around for at least 30 years and it has a proven track record. Don't think you will have a problem with RNY, just follow your doctor's instructions. Had my surgery 9/11 and have lost a pound a day. But didn't have but 50lbs to lose so I will be slower in losing which is okay with me. -
Why does Medicare make you wait?
oldoneyoungagain replied to meyouus's topic in Insurance & Financing
Whether you take those insurances or not, unless you're on Medicaid also, you will still have to pay for Part B and D, it doesn't come free. The only thing you don't have to pay for is Part A which is the hospitalization. Part B is your doctors, labs, xrays, medical equipment etc and D of course is the drugs. And no you do not keep your Medicare when you take these insurances, but in order to have coverage for B & D you still have to either pay it to CMS which is medicare and also your prescriptions benefits or to someone like Humana, either way it doesn't cost anymore. The only time I would have to pay more is if I took out gap insurance, which would then pay my deductible and the balance of the 20% owed through part B. I actually had coverage under my employer, when I finally enrolled in part B and because I had other coverage I couldn't enroll in something like Humana, but CMS still took $104.40 out of my SS check. I dropped my employers insurance on May 31 because they doubled the premiums and next year, because of age, I wouldn't be able to be covered under them. Think you should check with Medicare. -
Why does Medicare make you wait?
oldoneyoungagain replied to meyouus's topic in Insurance & Financing
I think you misunderstood, I pay the same amount as you do for Medicare part B (part A is free) and part D. Rather than the money going into Uncle Sam's hands, I elected to sign up for one of the insurance's offered in my state (they are located in the back of your "Medicare & You" book, just received my 2014) thus for me it was Humana Gold Plus. These insurances also have to follow Medicare guidelines. -

Splenda and equal
oldoneyoungagain replied to bakawaka's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'm allowed sugar free pudding, popsicles, jello, yogurt. All with Splenda. Granted new studies are showing that it isn't benefical, but used in moderation there shouldn't be any harm as you won't dump on these as you do with process sugars. -
What Was Your Starting Weight?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my pre-op appointment my weight was 216, day of surgery it was 211. Current weight as of yesterday 199. Surgery date was 9/11/13. I'm 5'4" and the doctors want me at 150-160, I want about 140. -
I just took two weeks. Could have just taken one though.

Bypass vs Sleeve: what made you decide?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Mid West's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor actually gave me the option when it was decided the band had to come out. I asked him what he would advise, he stated for me the bypass. His reason was that since I was a diabetic they see more success with putting that in remission. The sleeve on the other hand will still allow me to eat sugar and fat. Also if you have reflux the sleeve is not an option. I don't have this problem though. Also, I don't feel there has been enough research done on the sleeve so don't know the failure rate. Just like the band, when I had it, there wasn't much research and now that it is coming in doctors aren't recommending it like they use to. Failure rate is too high. The decision though is up to you. -
How Do You Feel About Your Bypass?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had revision from band to bypass on 9/11/13. Only had apx 58 lbs to lose and I'm losing a pound a day. Wish I had done this in the first place, rather than going through another surgery. -
Short term disability
oldoneyoungagain replied to salits's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I applied for FMLA, they gave me the number to call short term disability once I used all my PTO. Didn't need it though as was only out two weeks. -
How much do you really need?
oldoneyoungagain replied to CandyCrushRNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been fortunate as my taste buds didn't change, yet. But I have stayed on protein since I first had the lapband in 2010. I did this because I don't feel we'll ever be able to get the maximum amount we need to keep muscle mass through the amount of food we eat. That is just my opinion. Right now I know I'm not so try to at least get 60 gms in, but then I'm only three weeks out from surgery. It is also my go to breakfast when I first get up, I'm never hungry, so the doctor said it will help to start the metabolism since it sleeps when we sleep. -
I started burping right after surgery and that was a way of getting rid of the gas, that is what they told me. Once I had a BM it stopped, but I notice if I drink too fast, I'll burp because I've taken in too much air.

Surgery was yesterday! Liquids question
oldoneyoungagain replied to sageandcoyesmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If those people only knew, and I bet they would be whining like a baby, because it is so difficult. Don't you just like stupidity when they think they know it all? -

Why does Medicare make you wait?

I am on Medicare since I'm 71 as of June 1 of this year and only had to do three months. And it was approved within two business days from date of submission. -

It is a gender thing. -
Same here, don't crush my pills and take them one at a time but not spread out. Will see next month how it goes when I have to have a complete blood work up again.

Question: How do you know if your getting enough food in a day?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Med1862's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had surgery same day. On my follow up I was allowed to start with soft eggs, refried beans, cream of wheat or rice, malt o meal, low fat or non fat cottage cheese, unsweetened applesauce, canned fruit unsweetened and make sure it is peeled, sf pudding, laughing cow cheese. I try to keep more to the protein side, and I make sure I get at least 60 gms of protein, protein for you though should be higher. Starting now, I can have string cheese, deli meat, baked, broiled, grilled fish or seafood, water packed tuna, light or reduced calorie yogurt. I'm actually taking this from my nutrition guidelines provided by my clinic. They give up a notebook, outlining what to expect, what to eat, where we can get it. Great reference. I still try to avoid potatoes as it causes my BS to raise, but have tried some. Also states in the book to have only about 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup, also I see soft cooked green beans and soft cooked carrots. Deli meat is 1 oz. Tuna is 2 tablespoons with light mayo or miracle whip. Hope this gives you some idea and helps. Just make sure to stay hydrated that is the most important, without fluid you are gone in about 10 days, without food it is about 30 days.
