    Discharge?

You are given a strong antibotic right after surgery and possibly another load prior to being discharged. It is not uncommon for women to come down with yeast infections because it destroys all the good little germs that keep this under control. If you are a diabetic it will almost be a given.
  3. Had my first dumping episode a couple of nights ago. So now I know what the pouch can't tolerate. Dumping though is nothing new to me, had the issue long before bypass, and it seemed to have corrected itself after bypass, until I ate something or too much of something that I shouldn't have. I was just happy I was home when it happened . My biggest problem is food that the pouch doesn't like, then the elephant definitely is on the chest and until I bring it up I'm miserable, refried beans was one and fish was the other. Moist meat goes down quite well and I haven't tried anything else as I don't like that feeling. This all is so different for me, which is a good thing, compared to the band which I never had an issue with until the doctor found it had slipped. Do I mind these issues, you bet I don't, I wish I would have had this procedure in 2010 and would have already reached my goal weight. But the research was just coming in about that time, and actually not too much. They always say though "hind sight is better than foresight". We just have to remember that this is only a tool and it can only be as successful if used correctly.

    One Surgery or Two?

My doctor wouldn't do it in one either and I believe for two reasons. My band had slipped, so definitely could have had a problems with weakness in the area of the stomach and second scarring. I didn't mind, removal was done at 3 PM and was home by 5:30 PM and didn't even use pain meds. Ten weeks later had bypass, ended up with very little scar tissue inside and doctor couldn't believe how well I was doing the next day as I'm 71 and was out walking his other patients. Was ready to go back to work the following Monday, had surgery on Wednesday. But went ahead and took two weeks off. I'm glad I waited as felt it gave the stomach some time to heal. But that is my opinion.

    September Surgeries..

Had my surgery 9/11/13 and all is well. Still eating soft foods or moist foods. Had my first dumping episode last night, my fault, but not an issue. I'm in the slow loser mode as actually had a band in 2010 so lost half my weight then. But this is slowly coming off weighed 211 day of surgery currently 188. Getting numerous compliments and it feels soooooooooooooooo good. Loving it.

Amazing isn't it, when you don't recognize yourself.

How long before you had a 'drink'?

The only thing I will say, it is too darn long. Haven't tried anything, but crave it.

    Hello guys and gals

Yes, I use Swiss Miss sf hot chocolate but make it with hot water. Actually I was using it and was adding unflavored protein to it. I'm too lazy to make hot cocoa from scratch.

    Yogurt

I recently bought the Dannon light and fit greek yogurt with peach, strawberry, and vanilla. 80 calories and 12 grams of protein, sugar content doesn't bother me. Actually it has helped me get out of a stall and back on track. Simply love it and don't have a bit of problem. That is my go to breakfast or afternoon lunch. The only thing I have been able to eat solid is meatloaf and of course it is made with ground meat, otherwise everything else has to be moist, if not, I end up in the bathroom.

    Favorite meals

Surgery 9/11/13 I eat Wendy's chilli, chicken salad, tuna salad, sf puddings, yogurt, protein drinks/shakes, moved to meatloaf, mashed potatoes, canned water packed fruit, cottage cheese, soda crackers. These are basically the only foods that I don't have too many problems with. Have tried fish, didn't sit well, refried beans were going down and then it became a problem. Actually, I'm still not hungry very much. I eat a little a couple of times a day, just because I'm suppose too. I would rather live on the protein shakes as I don't get a funny feeling or discomfort.

    Friday Weigh-In!

HW 258 SW 211 CW 190 Surgery with the band 2010 was 258 lost 40 then lost 7 more pounds after the band was taken out 5/23/13. RnY 9/11/13 and down to 190 as of today. Don't know if I am on track, but know those that have had revision don't lose as fast as someone who only has had RnY.

    Issues with sugar

Yes, it has happened to some that have posted here. Hopefully, someone who has will respond to your post. I would definitely talked with the Nut and also your surgeon if this continues to be an issue. I am a diabetic and even though I have had low numbers, it is because I had to re-adjust my insulin in on my pump.

    Diabetes Run In....

Hope this helps you some. I was banded in 2010 and still had to take insulin and still had high A1Cs. My mother was diabetic, my grandmother who died from it in 1943. My uncle also developed diabetes at 73 and was a reasonable weight and excerised by walking 1-2 miles daily. Now back to me, I lost 40 lbs with the band, but had to have it removed this last May. I lost an additional 5 lbs. while awaiting RnY. At the time I had surgery 9/11/13 I weighed 211. I was also taking anywhere from 100-125 units daily of insulin and metformin. My average right now is about 35-38 units daily and my numbers are alway below 150, normally anywhere from 80-120 and no metformin. I will probably be to a normal range with no insulin, as the numbers keeping dropping, in about three or so months. I might add I'm 71 and have had diabetes since 1995 and on insulin since 2001. Hope this relieves your concerns.

    Daily calorie intake

I'm about five weeks out, and I do as you do focus on water and protein an average about the same as you do. Do try to eat somethings, but just can't figure out how to work it all in.

    Protein

Right now I'm drinking chocolate protein, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, sf coconut syrup, and about 4 oz of almond milk, blended with ice cubes. Taste like a dark chocolate almond joy.

    H. Pylori

Try Benafiber, it is tasteless and mixes well with Crystal Lite and of course keep up with your fluids.
  19. Had surgery on Sept. 11, down 17 lbs but have trouble with certain foods. Fish is a problem, unless it is Tuna salad, eggs except hard boiled and those have to be mixed with low fat mayo, can eat chilli, can now keep deli meat down and string cheese, cottage cheese, sf canned fruit. Also noticed I can eat soda crackers, but Club crackers now have a strange taste, rather than the buttery taste they use to have. Got sick on refried beans, so for now out of the picture. I went back to work two weeks after surgery, but actually could have gone back a week earlier. I am also loving the new me, but will say this is a lot different than when I had the band, didn't have any problem with food with it. Just hope I can eventually eat more solid foods but not to do that until the 8th week. As long as I drink protein and fluids I really don't get hungry and so I force myself to eat.

    Protein

Coconut made with sf coconut syrup and vanilla protein(all of these with water or milk of choice, ice cubes to make it thick), double chocolate (chocolate protein with 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder), banana with chocolate protein and 2 tablespoons of chocolate PG2 (I slice and freeze bananas, one sliced banana in a sandwich bag, then roll it up and put it them in a qt freezer bag & freeze), banana with strawberry protein, sf khalua & sf irish cream syrup with unflavored or vanilla protein. I am going to figure out how to use some frozen watermelon, and frozen canaloupe plus frozen peaches to change up flavors. I went out on Amazon and actually bought a recipe book for protein shakes which had some good recipes. "The Bariatric Foodie Guide to Perfect Protein Shakes" by Nikki Massie. It also list websites where to find things. In some of her recipes she uses sf instant pudding mixes, various flavors. Looks like she uses 1 tablespon with the liquid and protein. Haven't tried any shakes yet with the pudding though. Hope this helps you. The one thing I can count on with protein shakes is that it doesn't get stuck plus they fill me up.

    Biotin - Heart Palpitations?

I've been taking two daily since last April and haven't had an issue and I have a heart problem. I have irregular heart beats but it is all due to #1. Too much caffine and the #2 age. They actually call them PVC's my heart beats a couple of times and then stops. Anyway, biotin hasn't created any more problem for me than what already had. You might ask your doctor.

How long until you drove again?

I had surgery on a Wednesday, quit taking pain meds the following Sunday, started driving on Monday.

    Boobies !

Had a breast reduction years ago. Now into a B cup from DD, but they droop with the weight loss. So here is a thought, for those of us that have that problem, just roll them up and put them in the bra cup. Really I'm joking, my other thought was just tuck them in your slacks.

    Wendy's chili :)

Wendy's chilli has been my go to food. Good protein source, but for the potato (which I love) I'm finding any white carbs causes my blood sugars to really climb. So have had to convince myself I'm allergeric to white rice, potatoes any form, white bread, even Cream of Wheat and/or Rice. Oatmeal (old fashion) is okay. Going to try Zephyr's recipe, since I love Wendy's chilli.

    Giving up

DL it is always a joy to read your responses, your thoughts, your advice along with the encouragement you give. I hated to keep a food log, but MyFitnessPal is so easy that I don't have an excuse anymore. And it does help, just like the scales. Between the two, I can almost figure out why the stall and what needs to be done. Thanks for helping us through difficult times, or what we think are difficult.
