Banded 3/24/10
oldoneyoungagain replied to laptabanda's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was banded on 3/17/10 and my second fill 5/20/10 and now have 3 cc's in a 10 cc band. Still not feeling much restriction, but I continue to lose about a one pound a week. I'm just happy I'm losing without much effort. I know I am eating considerably less then before banding. So consider each pound a blessing. Down 22 lbs since banding. -
Everything you have described totally reminds me of my daughter who is now spending about 75% of life in bed because of severe pain throughout her shoulders, neck, and down her back. She was diagnosed years ago with fibromyalgia which the doctors thought were caused from a fall on her tail bone. But the pain became even more severe five years ago when she was rear ended and had severe whip lash. So I want to thank you so very much for taking time to research this information. I am passing it along to her. She also suffers from ADHD and what that brings to the table. Once again thank yu.

Any Kansas City bandsters???????
oldoneyoungagain replied to ladykcusa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone I have to share my story. Had my second fill on Thursday and am now at 3 cc's and another two pound weight loss in two weeks. But, what I want to share was before I went for the fill I had to see my PCP, so decided rather than taking the elevator up to the second floor where his office is at would try the stairs. Now mind you, not even with inhalers, which I am no longer using, could I climb those stairs. So, with the 22 pounds I have lost since this journey with my band, I made it up those stairs, no stopping, no puffing once on the second floor, and it felt sooooo good. Just wanted to share, what can be accomplished since 3/17/2010 when I had that band placed. -
Any Kansas City bandsters???????
oldoneyoungagain replied to ladykcusa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lizimiller, my reasoning for selecting Dr. Hitchcock with Malley Surgerical was the fact that weight loss seems to be his passion. He was a associate professor with KU Medical Center for 25 years teaching gastric bypass and was associated with the group at Shawnee Mission. He understands what we have been through over the years taking off the weight, putting on the weight +. So I went with experience, not just a doctor who does lap band (which is all Dr. Hitchcock does now) but someone who actually has learned first hand at the difficulty people have with their weight. He looks at it as a disease that we have. As far as New Hope Surgical Center; I've had numerous surgeries; KU, KU MedWest, Cox Hospital in Springfield,MO, OPR, Minorah and as far as staff, cleanliness, and doctors at New Hope exceed, by far, any of the other surgery centers I've been too. I was an individual, not just a patient, you are treated like you are the only person scheduled. You wouldn't be making a bad choice if it is Lap Band that you want.:smile2: Just my thoughts and experiences. -
Any Kansas City bandsters???????

Hello everyone and a big thank you Ladykcusa for starting this thread. It is so nice to have bandster close to home. I was banded on 4/17/10 at New Hope by Dr. Hitchcock. New Hope's staff, including the doctors, were fantastic. In and out and home in less than eight hours and I felt as if I were the only patient that day, but I know I wasn't. Other than being sore, minor pain the first few days, have had no problems. Had my first fill on Thursday, 5/6/10 and scheduled in two weeks for another. So far, everything is great and now will have to change my name because I'm feeling more like 45. Gosh only knows how I will feel once I take off even more weight. Maybe 18:>) Anyway, glad KC has a thread site. I live in Independence, but born and and have lived most of my life in Kansas until 2000. -
ladykcusa-I see you had your first fill on 4/7/10. Hope you are doing fine. majj-It is always great to read your threads. NewGuinea-I think all will be well and there is a good possibility you will feel a difference even before you get banded. I know I did. Once I went on the pre-op diet I couldn't believe the energy level I developed and since being banded every day is more of an improvement from the day before, so amazing. Wish I had done this years ago. So far I haven't had a problem. Do get hungry, but still can only eat small amounts. My first fill is set for 5/6/10 so hopefully this will curb that. Do believe all will be well with you. Good Luck and keep us posted.

Thanks once again for the kind words. In reading all the recent messages, the sad part of our situations, is the part we have tired every diet imaginable and they all failed which makes us feel like failures. That definitely played games with our minds. But OMG someone created this device called Lap Band and has saved us, and now our New Life Begins. That is the great news. For me this surgery is in reality a life saver. In May of 2009 the drs were not giving me many more then a few years. My arteries are clear, but I have what is called dystolic dysfunction with exercise induced pulmonary hypertension. The doctors were at their whits end in trying to keep my systolic BP down without lowering my diastolic anymore as it was as low as it could go. They basically ran out of medication for the blood pressure. By getting the weight off, it will give the heart and lungs more room to function without have to work as hard, thus lowering BP, thus giving me more time, if God is willing, to be here on earth. So to anyone who is thinking about getting this procedure done because of underlying health issues, don't hesitate, do the research on the surgeon, the facility, etc. etc. and go for it. I just wish, this was available ten years ago. Because that would have been ten years of a quality of life that I haven't had. Once again guys, I am doing well. Now the work really begins and that is what makes life so much fun, waiting to see what tomorrow brings.

Oldone made it through the surgery on St. Patty's Day with flying colors. Dr. repaired a small hernia and placed a standard band and I was in and out in eight hours. So far since this has start I've lost 20 lbs and feel oh so much better. Next goal is to get off some of these medications. Everyone is say that will be next so hope so. Any way all is well, I feeling pretty good, definitely have had worse surgeries. Planning to be back to work in a week.

sandi2004..thank you for the encouragement. My thought is weight loss is actually not hard, it is keeping it off that is the difficult road. So feel once the weight is gone, the band is there to help with keeping that weight off. Maybe my thinking on this is wrong. Want you to know that I've been to your website and it is awesome. Keep it up.

Phyllser-Thank you for the reply....I'm feeling really proud, and confident that I've lost this much..So keeping the attitude of the "little engine that could". I know I can, I know I can. Cat Lady-When I seen my lap band surgeon on Thurday we talked about erosion. He actually brought this subject up and he has been in the business for 30+ years and does nothing but lap band since it came into play. He told me, he has not had a patient that this has occurred to nor has he seen one. I would have to believe, this might be a rare occurance, considering his years of experience in this business. Hopefully, this might give you a little piece of mind.

ladykcusa-Thank you for the welcome. I see you might be in my neck of the woods. My surgery is being done by Malley Surgerical Center in Mission, KS by Dr. C. Thomas Hitchcock. Definitely ignoring the negative because for me the negative without this surgery will be an early demise. So I'm telling myself that I'm like the "little engine that could". Thanks for responding. :wink2:

Hello everyone....thought I might come on board. Have been reading all of your post and have been enjoying all the information. I'm being banded on 3/17/10 at the age of 67. So far have lost 16 lbs. on the pre-op diet. Even with that little of a loss feel so much better. Looking forward to what I have to take off and my health thereafter.

Almost 58, is it too late for me?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Froggie D's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Froggie--I will be 68 later this year and will be banded on 3/17/10. I have what you have and then some, except for reflux. I am actually 100 lbs overweight but the doctors want at least 50-60 lbs off to give my heart and lungs more room. They say that once this weight is off I will feel like a new person, I am taking them at their word. So, think positive you are still young. -
Haven't been banded yet, but Malley Surgical has gotten a verbal approval from my insurance. Once they get the written, the nurse will call me for a date. I will say that I am over the age of 65 and was quite pleased that I was accepted for the surgery since this is the recommended cut off age. Oh well, I am young at heart, mind, and spirit. Look forward to chatting with fellow Missourians, Kansans, etc.

Kansas City Area Weight Loss Support Groups
oldoneyoungagain replied to AdamY's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I live in Independence and am looking for a support group that meets Wed., Thurs., or Fri. Everything I seen meets on the weekends and I work. Can anyone help. Support groups are a very good tool for weight loss.
