    esophageal dysmotility

But do you know that more people die from having their gallbladder removed than people who have WLS? This was brought up at the seminar I attended a couple of weeks ago by two of the three surgeons in the clinic I go to. Thought that was very interesting.

    Being Judged?!

I think what gets under my hide when I tell someone that I'm having bypass, are the people who are not only not supportive but start telling their story of "I knew so and so who had it done and had this, and this, and this complication" or better yet "they knew someone who had this surgery and due to complications eventually died". What they can't through their skulls, is that without this surgery, we have this, and this, and this complication with our health and we will eventually died because of those complications. And I would rather try to save myself by prolonging my life or at least die trying by having this surgery, rather than not try at all and sentence myself to death. In the end to those people, no matter what we do, it will still not be the right decision. It will be heck if you do and heck if you don't.

    KANSAS CITY

Got cardiac clearance today after a stress test on Monday. Amazing what 40 lb loss can do, pulmonary released in October, cardiologist though still wants to check on me yearly. Band comes out Thursday, have already put in place necessary things for bypass and my insurance just requires three months weight management. Will know more on 5/30/13 when I go back for follow up for band removal. Doctor told me on the first visit I would only have to wait two months, but we will see, nurse said three. Stay in touch and let me know how everything goes. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing you luck but think everything will be fine. My manager had bypass at North Kansas City about three or four months ago. Doesn't seem to have any problems and she is looking great. Believe you are in good hands over there.

    Was it worth it?

All my friends and co-workers don't ask if it was worth it, but do remark about the weight I have lost and how good I look. With those comments, I believe they know it was worth it.

    Stuck at 180-185!

No physician should ever yell or put down their patient. They are not you, they don't walk in your body, and we are all different. He should be there to help you. So he should be there to guide you possibly in a different direction to help you to get those remaining pounds off. I would explain what I have been doing to lose, which is not working, so what am I doing wrong or what can I do different to make those pounds to come off. Yelling at you is not the answer that is for sure, it doesn't take any pounds off. It just makes you feel like a failure. (I switched physicians because of that attitude). I tell my doctors that we are not any different, if I wanted to have spent the money I would have been a doctor. He/she also puts her pants on the same way I do, one leg at a time. But that is just me.

    Insurance Approved but Dr. Denied

Approval came through for removing the band. Surgery center called yesterday giving me all the do's and don't on May 23rd. Scheduled at 1:00 PM, from my passed experience, this is the doctors first surgery appointment. So should be home later that night. Go back on the 30th and going to discuss the next steps to RNY. Don't want to wait any longer than I have to because #'s will probably start back unless I totally starve myself.

    breaking out... bad!

Possibly your hormones have changed? I think I read or heard (in a seminar) we get really moody after surgery because our hormones are changing. Wonder if this is what is going on? I didn't get acne until I was 55 about the same time as I had a total hysterectomy. Just a thought.

    breaking out... bad!

You might ask your physician, but you were given antibotics from your surgery which does interfere with birth control pills (meaning bc won't work). This might be the same issue.

    What are your portion sizes?

Haven't had the RNY yet but do have a question. I know the difference between head hunger and real hunger because still have my stomach, just banded but slipped. So with bypass the pouch is very little, does it growl when it gets hungry? That is basically how I know when I need to eat, otherwise I don't eat. Help anyone.
  10. Skylily you are on my prayer list and I'm crossing my fingers also.:>)

Thank you very much. Received it. Will definitely put it to good use.

    Protein

May I have the list also. Haven't had RNY yet, but band is coming out and want to maintain weight until the bypass is done. Thank you. clhr@sbcglobal.net

2 week lean protein diet question?

Okay, now I got it. Don't know how many grams of protein shakes are, but just my protein powder is 20 grams, so I would drink three or four then one lean cuisine, etc same as you. If you cook your own, then in looking at my book giving me the grams of different foods and restaurant foods, the grams very on what type of meat you are eating. Steak (any kind) cooked 3 oz (which is 4 ozs raw) is 23 grams of protein, chicken breast roasted 4 oz is 36 grams (no skin). One website you can check is www.CalorieKing.com. I happened to have purchased the book so I can carry it. I use it to count carbs as have to calculate insulin to give myself on my carb intake. Once I have bypass then definitely will use it for protein counting even though I pretty much do that now because of my band. Really don't think if you go over your protein it will matter. Also you might do a search on this forum for "Protein".

    What ya eating tonight?

OMG everything is sounding soooooo good. I'm sitting here drinking a double chocolate protein shake. You all are making me hungry for real food. I'll get over it though. Enjoy.

2 week lean protein diet question?

What kind of diet have they got you on. I've not heard of such a low protein diet. That is one thing you should be allowed to have, but I'm not your doctor or nurtionalist. I know when I had the band I was allowed at least 60 grams of protein, 64 oz. water, and a smart one tv dinner or one that is higher in protein and very few carbs. Pretty sure when I get bypass it will definitely be similar, as their shrink brought it up that I should go on it a couple of weeks before surgery, haven't talked with the doctor, that will come on 5/30 after he removes the band. So my answer would be "no" as long as it is lean, grilled, broiled or baked.

    Where has my hair gone!

Between lap band in 2010 and my husband's illness and eventual death 2011, I had very thin areas where you could really see the scalp, my hair just started to come back. Really don't want to lose it again, but thought long and hard, and came up with the mind set that a bald head doesn't cause any health issues but obesity does. So I am going to try and save what I can and if I can't I'll still be healthier because I know the pounds will shed away and that is what is important.

    Rny and adhesions

When I went to the seminar about a week ago, that question came up. My surgeon (actually there were two that night) said that the C-section is not a problem, because the stomach is on the left side under the rib cage clear above where the C-section is performed (but this was horizontal which is almost all C-sections). If you have to have an open incision or laposcopy none of these will interfere. Hope this helps.

    esophageal dysmotility

I am in the same boat as you, after three years band comes out the 23rd., then after the stomach heals we go back for bypass. But I am totally not going to worry, it is obvious there can be complications with any WLS but nothing the surgeons can't address. The biggest complication to me is not doing it, and the complications from obesity (dying from other complications that can't be handled as well) . So if I can have it done at 71, you will definitely be okay just keep a positive attitude all will be well.

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?

I am 70 three months away from 71. Having lap band out end of the month, then onto RNY in about three months. I'll basically do whatever to prolong my life, so looking forward to bypass and hopefully will get the last few pounds off.

Well............lets say I'm post op for lapband and hopefully (if I get cardiac clearance)pre op for bypass. The lapband is a long story, never any problems, but got upset with the surgical center and switch to another doctor. Once he looked at my band and then did an endoscopy diagnosed slippage and has to be removed (5/23). Doctor then gave me the option of sleeve or bypass with him recommending bypass for me. Have to have a cardiac stress test on Monday and if the heart is functioning properly then will get the okay from the cardiologist. I have dystolic disfunction of the heart so they want to make sure I can be under for that length of time. Hopefully I will hear from the cardiologist giving me the okay in a couple of weeks.

    Still Dizzy

Make sure they take your blood pressure lying down and then stand up and take it. Your blood pressure might be dropping pretty low when you stand which will cause dizzy spells. Just an FYI
