Powered Peanut Butter!
oldoneyoungagain replied to Birthsjourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If we are talking about PG2, yes I have it in chocolate and regular and do mix with my protein, but then I like my protein. I buy unjury in all flavors except the cheese, as it has a smooth texture and not a chauk or gritty taste. PG2 has a great peanut butter flavor, and for those who love peanut butter it is a great substitute for that taste without the fat. I make smoothies using a little almond milk, PG2 chocolate or plain, chocolate, vanilla or unflavored protein and then add a half of a banana (which I slice into pieces and freeze) and ice cubes. Makes a great smoothie or if you add enough ice it can become a soft serve ice cream. -
Why Did You Choose Rny And Not The Band?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Boobear7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the band and never had a problem even up to the moment the doctor found it had slipped. Because I am a diabetic the doctor felt the RnY would be better as it doesn't digest sugars or fats. I wish that I would have had the bypass to have avoided two surgeries, but the research on the failure rate wasn't as extensive four years ago as it is now. -
I'm Sick Of People Telling Me I'm Not Fat!
oldoneyoungagain replied to Seela's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 5'4" and weighed 258 and got banded. I lost 40 lbs when complications were found with the band and once removed I lost another 8. When I told my supervisor I was going to have to have bypass, she wanted to know why I wanted to lose more weight that I had lost enough already. I too proprotion my weight well, and people didn't realize how overweight I was. So I went into bypass only having to lose 61 lbs. I get compliments daily but they also tell me my pants are getting too big and I just bought them a month ago. Don't think they will ever be happy, but who cares, as long as I am happy with myself that is what counts. -
Meant labs not laps. Fingers got a little happy. Sorry.
-
3/17/10 had lapband. Never, never, never had a problem with the band that I knew of. The problem I had was my surgeon quit the practice 10 months after I had surgery. Ended up switching to the NP in that WLS clinic. Never once in those three years did they ever fluoroscope that band, only right after surgery. But there again I didn't seem to have any problems, or so I thought. Anyway the nurse was to have called me regarding laps, after waiting six months (I had gotten the laps myself, but she had already po'd me) I switched doctors. He did the fluoroscope and found the band had slipped. I ended up having to have the band out and 10 weeks later had bypass. I did a lot of research during this waiting period, including the complications with the band which is now coming in. The doctor recommended bypass vs sleeve for me because I'm a diabetic and there are better results getting this in remission than with the sleeve. In my research bypass has been so perfected in the past 30 years I had to agree with the doctor. I'm not sorry I had the band as it started my weight loss journey, just wish more research had been done three years ago and I would have eliminated two surgeries. So I would definitely research all the major hospitals, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland, all of them and then determine what would be best for you.

I get Dannon Fit and Light greek yogurt, 80 calories, 12 gm of Protein, 5 gm of carbs. strawberry, peach, blueberry, cherry, pineapple, vanilla. Not too sweet compared to some of the others.

I went in for my two month check up and had lost 31 lbs. Doctor was happy as I actually don't have much too lose. But he said he only wants me to eat Protein and my Water. No veggies, no fruit no carbs basically. That didn't make me a happy camper. I'm so tired of just protein. I've been stalled for over three weeks, an I'm also only getting less than 1,000 calories usually under 800. I know my metabolism is in starvation mode but trying to jump start it on this diet is difficult trying to get more protein and the water. I guess time will tell. 36 lbs to go to make all the doctors happy and 50 lbs to make me happy.

Thermostat set to keep the house at 74 degrees and still have to put a blanket over me, and I'm sitting next to the furnace vent. Body thermostat totally off with the additional weigh gone. If I didn't hate humidity so much I would move to Belize.

Are you logging your food? Need to see how much Protein you are taking in, how many carbs, and then calorie count. Your metabolism might be in starvation mode and you may have to jump start it by increasing your food intake. Also make sure you are excerising. I've been stalled for three weeks, put on two pounds, and now back down and am hoping it continues to drop. But I'm a slow loser as don't have much weight to lose, so it will take more time for me to get those nasty pounds off. But I can't stress enough your need to log your food intake and make sure you get all your fluids in. I look at a stall like I did with my diets and weight gain. Yo-yo instead of up and down with weight gain and weight loss, now I yo-yo food intake and if it weren't for My Fitness Pal where I can log and it calculates I would be at a loss.

The decision to have weight loss surgery should be a personal decision. To have or not have, what type, what not. Every procedure, every doctor, every clinic needs to be researched by the person making that decision. I had the band, my first choice, was it the right choice, at the time it was. But three years later, had I not switched doctors, I would be writing my horror story. My band had slipped but I didn't even realize it as I didn't have a problem. So, with every surgery whether WLS, or any other type, there will always be someone out in the world who can tell a horror story. But in the end it is still up to that particular individual who is trying to make that decision, to make that decision. They need to also read the good stories, the good results, and research, research, research and always, always be pro-active in their own health care. Those are my thoughts, and at 71, I'm doing great with my RnY as I did for the three years with the band.

Bloating And Gas Pains?!?!
oldoneyoungagain replied to adamfishaa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm two months bypass and the only time I have pain is with dairy products, Beans (actually in the chilli) or if I consume too much sugar. Greek yogurt doesn't bother me, nor non-fat cottage cheese, but milk itself yes. I use GasX, and walking, walking, walking helps especially so soon after surgery. -
First Dumping
oldoneyoungagain replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just came home from work after two hours. Major dumping, used all my breaktime for the first half of the day within one hour after I got to work. Here is the kicker, my normal Breakfast, decaf coffee with Protein, so haven't a clue if I might be coming down with a bug (was exposed to the flu a week or so ago, but got a flu shot). I don't get shakey, or get the sweats, but major diarrhea (Sp) this morning and a rolling stomach. I'm use to dumping, as have had it with my diabetes for years, but since bypass I'm doing good if I go every other day, but I have discomfort with the colon now. Like it isn't use to the muscles pushing or straining. Since I am use to dumping, I'm somewhat glad when I have it. Constipation was never a problem with me, and that is how I feel now since I have to from 1-7 times a day to maybe once every two-three days. This might be TMI, but totally amazed how our body changes with the bypass. -
I was two months the 11th. No acid reflux, but at times have some discomfort from eating too fast, too big of bites, not chewing well. I also take omeprazole. So if you are not on something like that I would be talking with my doctor. Acid reflux is not good as your stomach hasn't fully healed yet and acid reflux is just that acid in the stomach coming up. You could also developed a stricture. I would be making an appointment as I would rather be safe than sorry.

Gastric Bypass 11/15/13
oldoneyoungagain replied to velvett72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You may not see any loss for a few days after surgery, because you have been pumped full of Fluid. I started losing about two days after surgery and averaged a lb per day for about three weeks. I then stalled for about a week then lost about another 5 lbs and at a complete stall now. Going to have to have nothing but Protein, no carbs to get it moving again. I'm not really one to be compared to as I only had 60 lbs to lose to start with as I was banded until I had to have it removed and had to have bypass. -
Rny May Reverse Aging Process
oldoneyoungagain replied to DLCoggin's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank goodness, maybe I can be 39 again and know what I have learned in these past 71 years and this time put it to good use. Just couldn't pass up this opportunity DL. -
The Slow Losers Thread
oldoneyoungagain replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been stalled for over three weeks now, I think. When I went in to see my surgeon on 11/5/13 he had me, or wants me, to continue only with protein and fluid until March. I'm not losing as fast as actually didn't have that much to lose per him. So he states it will be slower, but I can do it. I have to believe him because this is what I want most to get down to goal. I will admit if I would exercise more I probably wouldn't be in a stall. The best thing though I did lose 25 more pounds since surgery on 9/11/13. Plus I'm loving the new me. -
5 Month Post Op Pic!
oldoneyoungagain replied to wanabeawifey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fantastic, and yes you look like a different person. Amazing. -
I only took two weeks, but I have a sit down job. Couldn't lift anything over 15 lbs for six weeks though. Two months out on the 11th. from bypass.
-
Of course the decision is going to have to be yours. I work with a girl who was about your age when she had bypass, two years ago. She said she weighed a little over 300 lbs. and about 5' 4" tall. She is now at 218 lbs. But if diabetes runs in your family considering a long term WLS might be the best. Diabetes, even under good control, still damages the body's organs. So if there is some way to stop it before it starts, if it will, then I would go for it. Whether family members agree with you or not, you have to do what would be best for you. Myself I would rather out live the family members then die an early death due to health issues caused by being overweight. Just my thoughts. Also when you talk with the surgeon, definitely voice concerns that you might have.

Unless they have changed their formula for Rogaine it is my understanding it only works on men. But I just got some minoxidil (and I have a feeling that is what is in Rogaine, not sure though). Just make sure you get all your Protein in which helps hair growth and nails. Secondly, your hair cut is very flattering. Even if you do lose hair, don't think anyone will notice but you, you have a good head of hair. Your picture is great.

How To Avoid Ulcers?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have taken 20 mg omeprazole twice daily, use to take 40mg Nexium, for years. Probably will continue. Never had a problem with acid reflux after the band, but as a precaution continued taking it because of all the medications I had to take. I felt with all the meds my stomach was a toxic waste dump, and my imagination kept seeing the dump bubbling. Now that I have had bypass, will definitely stay on it, think it is a good precaution to being pro active. -
Two Parts To Sleep Apnea Test?
oldoneyoungagain replied to JadaBean4411's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine also was the same, two nights. Diagnosed with mild sleep apnea but when they tried fitting me with the mask discovered I was claustophobic, so couldn't wear a c-pap or the bi-pap. Now that I have had bypass don't think I have apnea as my daughter says I'm not snoring when I sleep on my back or in the recliner. -
Yes, it should and to answer the other question, yes when you have any type of surgery and are put under you will probably lose hair. Your body went under stress and I honestly believe it is some of the medication used in the anesthesia. That is just my opinion. I'm just started losing from my May surgery of taking the band out, then will probably start from having the bypass in Sept. I was just a good healthy growth back from having the band in 2010. But I'm not too concerned I've always worn my hair short.
-
Yes, had band out on 5/23/13, weighed 218 on 9/11/13 day of bypass weighed 211. I just continued to eat as I was taught to eat with a band. Plus I hadn't lost any weight for over a year, only dropped 40 lbs with the band.

surgery date- and now SCARED TO DEATH!
oldoneyoungagain replied to anappleaday's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Okay, no one has posted on this site since October. By now most of you have had your surgery, or you are getting close. As of the 11th I was two months post op. Doing fantastic. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't get compliments which even makes you feel better. And the energy, I can't believe it. I remember when I couldn't walk through WalMart Super Center and wish they had benches somewhere in the middle to get our breath. Now not a problem. The only thing I will say, is the surgery is really costing. New clothes an I'm not even close to goal, well for the doctors 36 lbs, me 50 lbs. Plus, I decided to invest in a threadclimber. Actually bought it for the daughter but told her it was her Christmas present, Valentines, Easter, Birthday and the list goes on and the stipulation is that it stayed at my place and I get to use it until I die in 30+ years . But I'm loving this more than I did the band and I felt I would never think that, but I do. No monthly visits, no needles sticks in the stomach, blood sugars totally under control. So if any of you had complications, I'm sorry. But this is the best thing that has happened to me in 30 years when I started to eating way too much . At my age I was also fearful of not waking up from the surgery but decided that if that happened there was somebody above me that wanted me there more than they wanted me here. Have a Happy Thankful Thanksgiving.
