If One More Person!
oldoneyoungagain replied to libra_lisa's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I don't know where anyone thinks medicare is an "entitlement", I've worked my rear off since I was 16 and I am still working at 71. I pay into social security, draw social security which medicare is the benefit of. Now, I honestly think people get medicare and medicaid confused. medicaid is a state funded health insurance for people who are usually on welfare, which some of those cases medicaid would be an entitlement because they abuse the system. I would say this is my opinion, but actually it is a fact. -
If One More Person!

Here is a good one. When they discovered my band had slipped and had to come out and we would move on to RNY, I informed my supervisor I would have to have more surgery for weight loss. She looks at me and says "I don't know why you have lost enought already". So I put in my time to be off to have the band out which she approved. So when the approval for RNY came down at the end of August, I informed her the same day, put in my time for tomorrow until 9/25. Realize I'm using my time that I have on the books. Guess what, she didn't approve it and I have to have FMLA papers filled out. Totally sucks, more work for me and more work for the doctor's office. Really think it is because she really believes I don't need the surgery. She also needs the surgery, I look smaller than she does and I'm 60 lbs over. -

I'll be thinking of you. What time tomorrow? Mine is 10 AM CST. Amazing I have been wanting a juicy hamburger, and I thought it was because I have a coupon book from Burger King with a coupon buy one get one free looking me in the face. -
Dumping? (TMI sorry) I gotta know
oldoneyoungagain replied to Pam Peltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a omnipod pump so really like what you are saying. Milk might be an issue though, probably would stick with either coconut or almond, no lactose. I have already lowered my basal dose because of the liquid diet as my mornings were getting low when they use to be high. My highest a1c was, before the band was out at 7.9, then I dropped it to 7.1. 7.9 has been my highest in years. Want to thank you for the info about the amount of carbs that tigger the dumping. This way I can really watch how much I stick in my mouth. -
tasteless protein
oldoneyoungagain replied to M.A. Cruz's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Your welcome. I was going to buy the case at GNC, but they didn't have one, so I thought well maybe I should try it first. Bought the three, fourth free. I was sold after drinking it. Thinking about using it in some form of smoothie and with Silks Coconut milk or maybe figure a form of a sorbet. Freezing into cubes and add it to the milk. By the way it is 16 oz of fluid if I didn't add that before. Will be difficult for me just to sip. LOL -
muscle weighs more that fat myth
oldoneyoungagain replied to colorado's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Think that is what they are saying. I'll always lose inches and no weight then a week or two later inches stay the same and I've lost weight. That is way measuring is important also. -
tasteless protein
oldoneyoungagain replied to M.A. Cruz's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I loved it so much that I actually went out to GNC website and ordered a case. Now I hope, the sweetness won't be an issue after surgery. Don't know how it would be straight out of the bottle warm as I had put mine in the refrigerator, and one actually in the freezer so I could have it for lunch. yummy, wouldn't have known there was any Protein in it. -
Dumping? (TMI sorry) I gotta know
oldoneyoungagain replied to Pam Peltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Think the moral of the story is if you eat simple carbs follow with a complex carbs, because you are right on. I usually am required to see a Nut to address my diabetes every couple of years. Down side of this you don't want to be driving when it happens. -
Dumping? (TMI sorry) I gotta know
oldoneyoungagain replied to Pam Peltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everything you have said is right on tract and the above is right on track. Whether you are hypoglycemic or diabetic when you crash, first course of action is glucose tablets, tube of frosting, M&M's, hershey syrup, simple sugars and fast, even a sugar laden bottle of pop. Once we get to a safe level preferably over 80 more like 100 BS then follow with a Protein to keep it stable. My go to is always Peanut Butter as the stablizer it is easily digested. With the above being the case, of course my concern was, if after having bypass (and forget anyone having diabetes) you have an episode of hypoglycemia we can't turn to those sugars, I didn't think because we would yo-yo push up the blood sugars and 30 minutes after we get them up down we go again. Might be able to follow with some sort of protein if fast enough. But think you have the right idea, fresh fruit a totally different type of sugar then followed by protein. My PCP even recommended diluted orange juice. From the description of this dumping episode, those of us that have experienced low blood sugars with our diabetes should be able to feel the signs coming on. It definitely something you won't forget once it happens. Thanks for replying. You at least gave me some ideas, might be a trial an error on my part, but I'm just not going to push the issue. Protein, protein and protein, veggies, veggies, veggies, and then complex carbs if there is room left. This is easier said than done. -

oldoneyoungagain replied to Pam Peltz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okie dokey, I said I would share what we should eat when we have a hypoglycemic moment. Talked w/PCP and asked that question. Answer: Complex carbs i.e. whole wheat bread, natural peanut butter (no sugar added or oil) anything complex to get the blood sugars back up. For those that never had diabetes this can scare you, the drop in blood sugars, as it is one of the symptoms of dumping, for those of us who have/had diabetes we would probably know the these feelings when blood sugars take a nose dive. -
First Dumping Experience?
oldoneyoungagain replied to Sleeved2RNY's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Probably, 8 oz of Fluid taken in how fast? Thought we should still be in the sipping stage and if you were sipping then it is the natural sugar in the apple juice. I would stick with anything sugar free until you are further along in your weight lose. -
tasteless protein
oldoneyoungagain replied to M.A. Cruz's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Thanks M.A. Cruz, checked the site out and found a drink called "Cocotein", no lactose, 20gms of Protein, 5 grms of carbs, 100 calories. Distributed by Natures Best, so just went to GNC and bought three bottles and fourth was free. Now I know you wanted tasteless, the only thing I'm getting a taste of is coconut and sweetness, which to me it is rather sweet but I can tolerate it. Thanks again. P.S. I got coconut because I love coconut, there are different flavors. -
Emotional eating and dealing with stress

I'll second that. Also when I'm biting those nails I'm not sticking food in my mouth. -
Emotional eating and dealing with stress
oldoneyoungagain replied to tinkycheeks's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Now I don't feel so bad, I've been a nail biter since I was a little girl and have tried everything to stop, to even fake nails (didn't bite them, but nail bed became very thin like paper so had to quit the fake nails ). I notice I bite when I'm watching TV or when my hands aren't busy. Think it started as I use to be a worry wart. Now it has become a very bad habit. Hate it. -
Any September surgeries out there
oldoneyoungagain replied to SueC1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you. The surgery itself isn't bothering me, just hope I can follow the rules and not make problems for my self. All the doctors have confidence in me, it is just me that doesn't have the confidence. I know I can lose weight, just hope I can keep it off once I get there. I'm a 71 year old with a metabolism of a 90 year old and a mind of a 40 year old. Let me know how you do. Will be thinking of you. -
Tiny also reply to "why is so difficult to keep a marriage together". It is like a job you have to work at it, but both of you have to. Mutual respect, love, understanding, communication. A psychologist once told me when a person tries to control another person, it is because they cannot control their own life. I'm totally a firm believer in that.

You realize he is commiting fraud since you did not authorize these accounts? Plus what makes him think he can stop you from getting a divorce. Nothing is stopping you from discussing your whole situation with an attorney to know where you stand and what you can do.

More than I want to count. Married the first time at 18 and had a son two years later. I worked, hubby worked had a beautiful home and when I started sticking up for myself I got my front teeth knocked. Second time he was in the baby's bedroom whose wall was opposite the dining room, so when I came home with groceries and sat them down the shotgun went off. The buckshot didn't make it through the wall only because he was so close they went into the 2 x 4. The next time and last time was when he tried to strangle me and I passed out. I put the down payment on our home, the furniture was mine (I had money my mother step father saved as I received VA benefits as my father was killed in WWII, so all the money had been put in US bond for 13 years). I left with mine and my son's clothes, my son and with the car. I had been married 4 years and had planned to be married for the rest of my life. During those four years, I found out 20 years later, he was seeing other women and in fact my son had a half sister about two months younger then him. I've walked out on my daughter's father also 15 years later, leaving everything behind. I had to put myself and my children first. My daughter still remembers the arguments and fights her father and I had and she is now 42. Yes there are memories, loads of them. I don't want to dwell on the bad ones though as the Man above led me to a good man and showed me I could be loved. Life is a learning lesson, and survivors always make it. Granted it won't be easy and sometimes not fair but you learn, grow and it becomes easier but might be difficult at times.

What's wrong with wanting to see a stripper?
oldoneyoungagain replied to TinyMamiOf3kids's topic in Rants & Raves
You have become your own women which was bound to happen. You really didn't have a chance to actually find yourself as a young woman. You went from living with your parents probably into your own home taking on responsibilities of being a wife, mother, etc. Now you know there is more out there and I don't blame you for not wanting out of the abuse. All will be okay once everything comes into place. -
Surgery date set: september 16th!
oldoneyoungagain replied to emily.brokaw's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So glad you posted after your surgery. Read your first post and was ready to ask how you were doing but kept reading all the post. My surgery is Wednesday and my surgeon ask me if I had any concerns and my reply was just the pain afterwards. He just smiled and told me that was what pain medication was for. He had taken my band out in May and my records show I didn't take any pain medication once I went to recovery, nor did I fill his prescription. Thus his reply regarding pain. So I'm so happy to hear it wasn't bad. Good luck to you on a new journey to a new you. Thanks for posting. -

tasteless protein
oldoneyoungagain replied to M.A. Cruz's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Go to Unjury.com they have unflavored which is also lactose free. I mix it with crystal light, but they have suggestions or recipes out there also. Going to actually use it in about an hour and mix it with sf jello. You can buy individual packets to try it, but think you will like it. It is the only protein powder I buy. Also guaranteed so you can return it if you don't like it. -
What did you do a day before surgery?
oldoneyoungagain replied to scoresmore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I meant to say my protein powder is suppose to not have any lactose.
