Dr Dillemans carries out more RNY's than Bands and travelling around the country would not be cost effective for him. But as you can get Dr De Bryne to do your fills, I think that this is a good alternative to either travelling to London or Belgium, each time you a top up. Dr De Bryne, I believe, the busiest (read most experienced) band doctor in Europe and has hundreds of UK patients so he can well justify the expense of doing a whistlestop tour of the UK, which, I believe, he also does in Dubai and Madeira too.

I don't have a fill, but I do have restriction, it's working very nicely at the moment. I'm praying I'm going to be one of the lucky ones, who never needs a fill!

I'm a qualified nurse, I would hate to do it but and this is a more probable scenario.... If I was on hols in India or Africa (My favourite places to go)and got into trouble then I'd do it because the alternative doesn't bear thinking about!! I have a fill needle and a syringe supplied by my doc for just such an emergency. I'd never fill my own band I would only ever defill.

Whats a snappy response for are you going to have a tummy tuck now?
anon replied to edieparks's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Why? Are you going to get a face lift!!!???? Can't imagine why people think that they can ask such personal questions!!! -
I'm British, so I thought I'd add my own bits of vocabulary We call a car's 'hood' a bonnet we don't go on Vacation, we go on holiday, We don't have trash we have rubbish that we put in bins! we call faucets (sp?) taps. As for sayings; My dad always said you make a great door but you're useless as a window... in other words I can't see the TV, you're in the way! Were you born in a barn? meaning close the door behind you!!! He said this to an Indian friend who came to visit... she was mortified and went on about her mother being able to afford to have her in a hospital!!!!

Should I have a minimum daily calorie intake (worried I am loosing weight too fast)?
anon replied to kyethra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Enjoy your honeymoon period because once your appetite returns, and before your first fill, it will slow down and possibly stop altogether. So long as you don't feel ill and still have energy enough to function on a daily basis there's no need to worry. -
Where do you live, what band have you had? I may be able to help you.

Welcome to the site Ally.... Only 5 months on the NHS... That's wonderful! it took me 5 months to find a surgeon and save the money to pay for it..... Keep us posted won't you!

So glad you could get a fill with Dr Chris.... I'm told he's looooveeerly!!!

Right I'm gonna moan, I'm 8 days post op and I've lost 10lbs since op day.... I'm on liquids, I worked out my calorie intake was around 600+/- calories per day, and I am sooo NOT hungry, and despite this I really can't be bothered to eat anything... which is VERY unusual I'm drinking my water although that's a struggle, I'm a gulper by nature, but I'm getting there with 2 litres per day. But for the past 3 days the scales have not moved and to add insult to injury I gained a lb this morning.... Someone tell me how the HELL that happened!!???!!!   I realise that I should step away from the scales, but it's a habit... get up pee weigh self, wash, brush teeth.... that's how it goes unless my eating is out of control, then the scales don't even figure in my life! Anyone who has some explanation how I can be eating virtually NOTHING and gain a lb, I'd be really appreciative it

Cost? I'm sure this has been answered before...
anon replied to RAYSBABE's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Hello everyone, new here, from Uk
anon replied to inuk's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Waiting lists are not the problem with the NHS you have to see your surgeon and then if he thinks you're eligible he will ask your GP to apply for funding, then if they agree, you get to join the list... depending where you are you could be through the whole process and on the table in 6 months or you may have to follow a supervised diet plan and try drugs and that may take about 2 years.... There's no way of knowing about your particular surgeon/PCT so you will have to ask when you get your appointment. -
There are as many opinions on post op eating as there are surgeons.... I'm told that over my first week I can move through the food in stages as I feel ready to do so.... I'm day 9 today and I've had oatmeal for breakfast... Still feel stuffed to the gills!!
-
Total cost including hospitals, hotels, flights, blood tests before and after... 4846 Euros which works out at $6,456.15 I have to pay for my fills at $220 a time... I'm really happy with my new friend!!
-
Why dont' you try the local Nuffield or Bupa hospital in your area, they will usually be able to put you in touch with their bariatric surgeon.... Hope that this helps....

Well today has not been a good day, got up, and weighed myself.... I'd gained a lb!!!! How I've no idea so today has gone a bit Pete Tong! 29/3/07 Brekkie; fig yoghurt activia snack: Cambridge pack made into mousse Was good... and lots of protein too Lunch: Med tomato and veg soup with added cottage cheese Snack: Starbucks Cinnamon dolce latte (grande) with two ginger biscuits... Well dunked so were virtually liquid:o :welldoneclap: Was feeling very sorry for myself! Total calories are 905 today! Dinner; 1/2 large pot of Onken 0.1% fat natural yoghurt..... I may have more soup later.... I'm not making any promises....

Thanks very much.... It's not like I didn't know all this stuff already ... like I say in my signature.... I'm unable to follow my own advice! It was the scales fault!! I shall banish them to the attic and get them out just once a week I think that will be plenty for anyone to endure ....

I know that Europe is a long haul flight for you guys, but the costs in the US and Mexico, seem astronomical! I had my band fitted in Paris the cost was 4500Euro.($6005!) My surgeon sees quite a few USA citizens and fits them with the Lapband so they can find a fill doctor when they get back home. Even with the flights and hotel accomodation it would surely come out less expensive, if you can spare the additional time... I would recommend an extra week in Paris post op to recover and enjoy the world's most beautiful City!

Should parents be able to smack children in discipline
anon replied to flabuless's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My boys are older now, but I did smack them when they were younger rarely... but it happened. They are healthy happy, law abiding, individuals who have a strong moral compass. M usual punishment if they misbehaved was the 'naughty step' a kind of time out away from everybody else.... Beating your kids is obviously wrong, but reasonable smacking can be a good form of discipline for children. -

Dr Chris De Bruyne does fills in Scotland and is a colleague of Dr Dillemans. Ask Dr Dillemans if you can use Dr Chris for your fills. ( I believe he charges around £50, but don't quote me as I'm not one of his patients.)
