I was banded on Aug 15th, and have had 4 fills. At this time, I've lost 63 pounds. Last fill made me a little tight, might have .25cc taken back out. I feel, also, that it may be time for a behavioral adjustment. Everyone keep up the great work.

oops meant NO surgical intervention

Carlene Thanks for the post, just had .5cc put in on monday and I think it's too tight. I'm having constant reflux/regurge and taking tums all the time. I was thinking about having .25 taken out Monday, now I will be for sure. Be thankful it's something that your body can heal on it's own with surgical intervention. Good luck!

Underwear During Surgery?
doglover replied to Tazza's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As a surgical nurse I can assure you that the staff and the doctor DO NOT CARE about your "personals". Every day we do the same thing just to different patients. Now if a trumpet came out and started playing yankee doodle, ya we might look shocked ha ha. My underwear wasn't on for my surgery, and I didn't care. -

Lisa Montanoial-you need to go to "This website is fake" by Josette, Kleigh830 did what appears to be extensive research and found the websites these fake pictures came from. One is an advertisement for glasses and the picture of the woman who is bone thin is from an article about anorexia. Good job Kleigh830 makes the originator look like a real idiot!!! There is no way any doctor would ever tell someone who looks that thin to wait for the stomach to adjust. It's your decision whether or not to have the surgery but don't judge the band by BS reports.

I noticed that it takes a little while for a fill to fully take affect. A co-worker also said the same thing. It can even take up to 3-4 wks. NOBODY who has the lap band should be pbing that much. Sounds like you need some fluid taken out.

I think what they mean by the band "being dry" is that if the band wasn't primed with saline before it was put in, a lot of the fluid they put in the first time doesn't go into the band itself. Some of it is in the tubing going from your port to your band. I had 1cc put in the first time and felt very little restriction. When I went back I had 1.5cc put in and that did the trick.

I am a nurse in surgery at a local hospital. We have just started doing lap bands. I had mine done at another hosp. in Aug of this year. One of the doctors was going to take a band out of someone (put on by another md) and was overheard saying the life expectancy of people after lap band is age 67. This doctor does not recommend them due to this fact, stomach erosion and other possible future complications. This scared the heck out of me and another coworker. My question is this: 1. is there anyone out there who has had there band longer than 3-4 years and how are you doing? 2. What can I do to prevent stomach erosion (other than the obvious don't eat like a pig). 3. has anyone else heard of this before It's all that is on my mind, I'm afraid I didn't research this enough and 5-10 down the road I'm going to have to have it removed. I have a confession to make, I'm a soda drinker (doesn't cause problems) could this add to my erosion/complication risk. Please help put my mind at ease!!:cry

Thanks for all the responses. I got one thing cleared up the doc said life of the band is six to seven years oops! After reading a bit more a lots of thinking, I'm not going to worry about it anymore. This band is in me now, I'm losing weight and I'm happy about that. I guess it's going so well I'm waiting for the "rug to be pulled out from under me". Who knows what the future holds for ANYONE banded or not. Thanks again:)

laurend- if you don't mind me asking, was your unbanding due to erosion? Do you regret having it put in?

Mypov-I can only attest to my pb's, no mine don't just happen. I can tell when I'm in trouble. Excess spit builds up in my mouth and throat and a lot of discomfort in the area where my band is. Eventually the spit/slime build up so much and I'm so uncomfortable that I pray for it to come up. By that time it comes up pretty easy. Not a very pleasant experience, one I try to avoid at all costs.

leath g I LOVE THAT ANSWER! If that doesnt' shut someone up I don't know what would. Thanks for that it made me lol. I usually tell people this is not the same as bypass. It's a much slower wt loss so I won't get flabby skin hanging everywhere like bypass people. has ha

I had a colon cleanse about a year ago. It wasn't very pleasant and wouldn't run out to do it again, but afterwards I felt wounderful and very empty. I really think it is beneficial for your colon if you can withstand the actual treatment. I've never tried the liver cleanse but might consider. For my own dicision making, why do you feel you need a liver cleanse and what benefits are there?

I need some help:help: making a decision and I figured this was the best place to get it since you all understand where I'm coming from . I'll try to make this as short as possible. 4cc band August 16th, 1cc fill Sept 25th (no restriction), 1.5cc fill Oct 2nd (good restriction), very happy with 41 pounds lost:clap2:. Averaging about 2 pounds per week. My problem is I'm still eating soft food. I eat a lot of Soup, applesauce, oatmeal, Protein shakes can even eat a Peanut Butter cup. I can't eat chicken unless I chop it up first with a food chopper. I have pb'd twice since my last fill. I don't know if I should have some Fluid taken out or not. Again, pleased with the weight loss but thinking I should be eating more "normal" than I am. Please Help!
