  1. I had surgery on a Monday about 6 weeks ago. Up on till Thursday I was like "WTH did I do". On Friday of that week I had to go to a nephew birthday party and odd as it may be that was the first day I loved my band. It was my first day of muchies and enjoyed it after liquids for so many day. But, I knew that if I hadn't had the band I would have eaten one plate of food before the guests arrived, one with the guests and then another after everyone left. Not to mention the cake. I did not touch any of this food and it felt good. Dee
  2. How is everyone doing? I am doing very well. Almost no pain whatsoever, just every now and then a little pinch in my port incision. No more gas. Eating puree and full liquids. Had tuna salad today and it was so so yummy. Down 21lbs since starting my pre op diet six days prior to surgery. I am sure it will slow down some in just a few days and I am ok with that. I think I woul be happy with an 8-10 lb loss per month. 12lb per month and I will be estatic. Hope everyone is doing good. Dee
  3. Hi! I had my surgery today. Besides the uncomfortable gas pain all is well. Hadn't really discussed the post op diet with doc prior to surgery and was surprised that is was only 3 days of liquids and then jumped straight to mushies. I keep seeing that video by Dr Ortiz on youtube where he stresses the importance of 21 days of liquids. I am a bit hesitant to jump to mushies to quick but then again I really want to cuz I am a bit blah with liquids at this point. What was you post op diet like and how long was it/each phase? Do you all feel that the longer it last the more boost you get on your inital loss? I am at 11lbs down with the short 6 day liquid diet I did. Thanks Dee
  4. Hi, Just curious as to how long it too from getting surgery to actually loving your band. I hear the phrase "I love my band" alot and I am sure it didn't start from day 1 post op. I am 3 days post op and I don't love my band but I have gotten a chance to get used to it yet and appreciate its benefits and help in the wt loss process. So, for you , when did you start loving your band? Dee
  5. Hi! Well, at least you can burp. I feel the need to burp and then just get this pressure in my chest that last about 3-6 seconds and that was my burp. So far I have not been hungry and I am scared of trying actual food. My diet was suppose to be 3 days of liquids them mushies. I am gonna try for one week of liquids then move to the full liquids and thicker stuff after that. Mentally, I am not ready to eat. I crave stuff and want to eat but my body is not ready. I have lost 16 lbs in 10 days which is nice for a change. Painwise I have been fine since day 1. Port site sore and occ a little sharp twinges but not too bad. What are you eating these days and how much fits? I still feel like not a whole lot will go down. Hope you have a good weekend.

  6. Well, I am glad to hear that the majority of responses are towards loving their band. I don't yet love mine but I hope that once I start eating I will grow very fond of it. I can say that I love losing this wt so fast but what can I expect from just liquids. Dee
  7. Good Luck Ginger. I know if I really tried I could return tomorrow but a few more days would be great. That gas pain is the one that keeps getting me. Dee
  8. Wow, guess every doctor is a bit different. I am still at liquids and am terrified of anything else at this point. Even liquids give me the chest pressure feeling sometimes. I guess only time will allow me to move up on the stages and I will just take it as I feel it as opposed to my docs instruction. He must realize everyone is different. Glad to know everyone does it a bit different and still has great results. Dee
  9. Matilda: Glad you are doing well and on the mend. I have to agree, gas pain is the worse. I have hardly any incisional pain. The port site a bit but not completely tolerable. THe gas pain however is horrible. Today it is finally a bit better. But the day of and after surgery I felt like I couldn't take deep breaths and like I really needed to burp but nothing would come up. Just felt a huge tightness in my chest and it would take about 20 seconds to go away. I seriously doubt I would be able to tell the difference between a heart attack and that pain at this point. At night I feel the gas cramps as well. Hopefully it means all that gas is being reabsorbed into my intesting and I can finally get it out:blush:. Anyway, I hope each passing day if good for you too. Dee
  10. I am sure someone will ask in no time at all Ginger. Hope everyone else is doing well and checks in soon. Dee
  11. Hi ginger, glad to hear things are going well. My surgery went well too. I haven't taken any pain meds. Didn't even fill the meds. The biggest discomfort is the gas and chest pressure type deal. Kinda feel like I can't take a full breath of air. The post incision is kinda big but the other ones are tiny. Have been up and about pretty well since yesterday. Weirdest part is I have a bit on nostalgic feeling. Kinda like moarning of the no more pig out and really letting go at a party or buffet thing. I am sure it will pass as I see the pounds come off. I have not been really hungry. They told me 3 days of liquids and then on to mushies. I don't think I am gonna do that. I keep seeing those videos by Dr. Ortiz where mentions the importance of liquids for 21 days for proper healing and I keep think 3 days is WAY too little. Hope eveyone else is doing well. Dee

    It's over!

Glad to hear you are doing well. I had my surgery today too. Besides a bit of gas pain I am ok too. What is your post of diet like? Mine is liquids for 3 days and then muchies. A little hesitant to do that so quick. Any regrets? I have a little mind itch. I know it will pass once I see the results happening. Wishing us both lots of luck on this journey. Dee
  15. That was me about 2 years ago. My cousin had gastic bypass at the age of 23 about 4 years ago. She was 240lbs and about 5'2 in height. She is now 150 and looks great. In my head, having surgery was admitting failure. And, I was not ready to do that. I also told myself that she could have done it on her own. After losing and gaining the same 50lbs about 3 times in the past 2 years made me realize that it would be more of a failure to continue doing this to myself than to admit that I would greatly benefit from this device. Part of the reason was also financial but that was slim compared to my mental block on it. What finally did it was gaining back about 42lbs in a period of 9 months and seeing two of my co-workers have sleeves and loving it. Over a period of 4-6 weeks I decided on it and now I will have surgery tomorrow. A little nervous but ready to do it. I also wonder mainly about Kirsty Alley. She certainly has the money to do it, but I guess with her new show it is best to continue unhealthy and reap the financial benefits. Dee
  16. Ginger: My surgery is also at 10 am and I have to be there about 8-8:30 as well. Matilda: I started my liquid diet on Tuesday also and I am down 9 lbs. I really really want to eat something at this point. I am just nervous about the anesthesia. But, I am so ready to get it over with and move on to the next phase. Good Luck to all of us. Dee

    deflating the band

Good question. I am wondering this myself. From what I have read, there could possibly still be some restriction but mostly from a shrunken stomach due to the restricted eating that took place. Would love to hear from those who actually have it? I think there is more info on the Removing the Band link area. Dee
  18. Great Job Fourme! Ginger: I think that if you keep it up 40+ is not wishful thinking at all. I am going to Cancun in June and also hope to be at 40+ by then. If anything to fit better on the plane seat. I am down 8lbs since Tuesday on the liquid diet. I am hanging in there but it is getting harder. Trying not to think that there is at least 2 more weeks of this torture. Hope everyone is doing well and excited about Monday. My procedure is scheduled for 10 am but have to be there at 8 to register and take before pics. Dee
  19. I will have my band on the 22nd too! Very excited and a bit scared of the whole "going under" part. Have had one surgery before and it was a c-section in which I was wide awake. Guess it can't be that bad. Doc required 3 days of liquids only. But being anal as I am I went for 6. So, today is day 4 and the first day I actually felt really hungry. Don't think I will like the post op diet part too much. Will have surgery in Reynosa, Mexico. Best to all of us! Dee
  20. Thanks for all your replies. The majority answers was what I was hoping to hear. Dee
  21. Hi! Newbie here. Have been a lurker for awhile. I have a suregery date of March 22, 2010 and I am starting to get just a bit nervous. Not too bad. I am wondering. When you all say you feel more tight in the morning or just feel tight is then when you drink or eat? Or, is a feeling that you have localized physically to your abdominal area regardless of drinking or eating? I hope I am making some sense. :wink2: Is the tightness something you have like a muscle cramp that you can pin point or just a sensation when you dring or eat? Thanks Dee

    Where's your port?!

Will have surgery on the 22nd. Doc said it would be hidden below one of my left ribs. Wonder if it will really be there. Dee
