rAYNIE I too am scalle obsessed. I have a digital scale it can go up or down a few lbs for no reason. I use the number the scale says first thing in the a.m. I have been weighing myself every day since pre-op diet and know I should stop and pick one day of the week as weigh in day but I JUST CANT STOP. I have lost more weight this past month than I have ever lost in my life!

Ok. I know everyone is different but please tell me I'm not the only one who feels frustrated by this: Now, as I have done in the past, have lost 23 lbs. Yeah me, right? Well, how come I don't go down a size. I know that my pants fit better than they did before but............................ Last year a friend and I both did WW. We both lost approx 25 lbs. My pants felt looser, she went down THREE SIZES. It is very frustrating!!!! Anyone know whats up with that? It stinks! OK, done with my rant. Good luck to you all on your journey, hope its a smooth one Three Beauties

btw - I would stay away from carbonated stuff though. It erodes the band. I am missing soda, I never drank a lot but I do like it. Yesterday I opened a big bottle of diet cream soda (YUM) and am waiting for the carbonation to go away. I didn't realize it took this long!!!!!!!!!!!

Pistol I hope what you've heard is true because I just "shocked" my body with a $100,000 bar. HA HA Seriously, I have said again and again that I chose Lap Band so I could eat like a normal person who makes good, healthy, portion controlled choices MOST of the time. My opinion only, if you can handle it, and some of us can't, go ahead and have something "bad" once in a while. Just don't let that once in a while turn into more often than not. Good luck, stay positive!

What does your "normal" diet consist of?
threebeauties posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a question for you bandsters who have been banded for a while now and eating "normally". I put normal in quotes because I know everyones normal will be different. I am only 1 week banded and wondering what I can expect to be eating say, 6 months, 1 year down the road. Please give me some insight as to what a regular day of meals is like for you. I would so appreciate the feedback. I am still tryijng to wrap my brain around this whole new way of eating and living. Thanks again and continued success to all and strength to all who need it. Angie92, I have three young daughters and they were a MAJOR part of my decision. I DO NOT want them to grow up with the same bad eating habits I have. I also did not want to embarass them. It's funny, I am careful about what they eat and teach them about making healthy choices. I knew they would figure out soon enough I was being a hypocrite. how can I preach to them when, as soon as they are in bed, I break out the chips, sweets, whatever. I am with you. Changing our bad habits over time is what works for a lifelong commitment. Again, good luck. Slow and steady wins the thin race:D

Fauxnaif - sounds expensive but I can't wait!

27 lbs in 2 months! I think that is great!!!! Believe me, I would rather lose slower and safer. I am sorry you are not getting the support you should. I actually have only told one friend and hubby, not even my kids (they are very small and I was afriad they would tell the world). the world of soccer moms can be cruel, hehe. People don't know about the band and as soon as they hear surgery, they think bypass. Once this happens, you are expected to lose 100 lbs in 6 months. Since when is weight loss supposed to be so easy? The band is far more effective to help us make good, healthy, sensible choices MOST of the time. I can't wait for the day I can enjoy an ice cream cone with my kids. Bypass does NOT teach moderation. With that said. To each his own. You made the decision based on your needs and desires, good for you. Good luck with your journey.

Unplanned meals away from home
threebeauties replied to derbygirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi I was banded on 10/19/06. I just got back from McDonalds and had a grilled chicken salad. I ate the chicken first, very moist. After I ate about 50% of the greens. Don't forget, they have yogurt parfaits, skip the granola. -

thank you C, its great to hear from someone who has had the band for some now. You have obviously had great success. I am looking forward to your write up. Where will it be posted so I can find it, right here on this thread? -
I saw someone post that after they get a fill they do a barium swallow. Is this common? I didn't think most dr's did that but I do think its a good idea! Good luck everyone on this journey!

My doc said vitamin E!

Rhonda Why don't you want to eat regular food at 1 month post-op? Just curious.

Chrispygal Haven't had a fill yet but...........my feeling is same as yours. I keep reading about people who keep throwing up and have reflux really bad. I keep saying over and over that I want to eat like a normal, thin person. I will make healthy choices MOST of the time, sensible portions and kick up the activity level. I hate the thought of eating 3 tbls of something and not being able to eat more!!! Before I had my band I called a couple of people who have been successfully living with their bands for close to a year. BOTH gave me an idea of their meals and they are all normal meals. I am eating regular food at two weeks out. tonight was chili I made. I switched beef for ground turkey (can't tell the difference), doubled the amount of beans and threw in a couple of cans of crushed tomoatos. All healthy. I don't feel any different than I did before surgery which makes me a little nervous, no restriction AT ALL. I am interested to find out what a fill feels like!

Hi All I started walking on the treadmill on Tues (Halloween). I am starting very slow and will gradually build up time and incline. In the past, I start off maybe doing too much and after a few weeks give it up. Hopefully I can make this into a lifestyle change along with everything else. I do want to start doing some weights when I can. Anyone know how soon after surgery they recommend that? I just saw a diet show that said you CANNOT continue to lose a decent amount of weight until you weight train. Eventually, reducing calories will slowly cause you to lose muscle. I also think that toning may help with the extra skin after all that fat is gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am only a bit over two weeks out and on a regular diet. Yesterday I had an egg for breakfast, some chicken and green beans for lunch and dinner was one slice of homemade pizza and a salad. My dr. said as long as you can tolerate it, its fine. I have had NO problems with anything I've eaten so far. I feel like I don' even have a band. I am eating much less but that is me, not the band. Anxious about the fill in a month. Chrispy - any word on a MA get together? I will go to my first support group on 11/21 at the hospital. Take care, keep up the good work everyone and keep making those good choices!

Moon goddess, you are so right, slow and steady. The first thing I want is to lose all this weight, the last thing I want is for eating to be an ordeal. Don't we all just want to eat healthy, normal portions and enjoy life! I saw dr. yesterday for 2 week post-op and we didn't even discuss a fill. I made an appt for 1 month but I don't even know if I will get a fill then. Good luck to everyone, we are all doing great! Stay strong all of you who have candy in you house;) btw- if any of you get a chance, on Discovery Health Channel they have a show called "I Lost It", all about peoples success with weight loss. I tivo it and find it very inspiring and motivating. Tonite on the same channel is a show called "You, on a Diet" put on by the dr.s that Oprah has had on a couple of times (great show yesterday for anyone who caught it). If you didn't might I suggest tivo, possibly the best invention of the last decade:)

Hi Everyone Today I went for my 2-week post op visit. It feels sooooo good to get those staples out, so much more comfortable. I confessed my sins to eating regular dinners with my family and he told me that as long as I tolerated them well and chewed the heck out of it, I could progress to regular, soft foods. I can't wait to have an egg for breakfast tomorrow:biggrin1: I am down 24 lbs total, including pre-op diet. I think that this is when the tough part starts. Incorporating regular meals (3 per day he told me) while making smart, healthy decisions all while the appetite is coming back, slow but sure. He told me to come back in a month! Good luck to everyone out there!

Anyone try to make a mushy out of a snickers:D ????

HAPPY HALLOWEEN to you all. Give me strenth!!!!!! I have three little ones at home who will be bringing home obscene amounts of candy tonite. The only advice I can give (and hopefully follow) is to get the candy out of easy reach. I have a fridge in the basement where I will keep the big bowl of candy. When I allow the girls to have some, I send them down and let them each pick out a piece. Now, I did this last year and I think it cut way down on the amount I ate. This year, obviously, I have more incentive to stay away! If I eat one, I'm doomed:eek: I wonder how full I would feel on a Reeses Cup?:heh:

Maybe next time someone asks how much weight you've lost say" you know, I' not sure, how about yourself" Its worth a try! I have only told DH and one friend. I knew that if I told people they would be asking and expecting and I didn't want either. People only really think they understand bypass and this is certainly different. good luck!

Try cream soups, some of them are excellent. I have been putting cream of broccoli soup in the blender with some very cooked broccoli so it is still smooth but a bit more substantial. Also try some creamy soup and toss is some grated parmesan cheese (not too much), tomato is great this way. Campbells Select in a carton are very good, I just had the butternut squash one and today will try the creamy portobello mushroom, yummy! For me, it got better after the first week. I felt less hungry, not more. Hopefully, that will be the case for you as well. Good luck!

CONGRATS on your wonderful success!!!!! 200 lbs in 15 months is quick! Has your head caught up with your body? Your reply almost made me cry, I am so happy for you and thank you for giving me something to look forward to!!!!

I have the majority of my weight right in the middle. I have a big belly and relatively thin legs. Clothes always look horrible on me. In order for pants to fit around the belly I have to get a big size but then I could fit another person in the butt and legs part. For shirts, I have to get a big size to button around the belly button but then the shoulders are falling off. Maternity always looked on me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could still wear them (of course, eveyone would say to me "any day now, huh"), believe me, I've heard it. Keep up the work everyone!
