I agree with the others that you should see another doctor. While none of us really know why he is trying to talk you into bypass, if he isn't excited and optimistic about the band I think you should at least get a second opinion. follow up is such an important part of the band, more so than bypass. The band is successful when the patient has regular visits with the dr, and fills on an as needed basis. So many out there who are not successful are not because they haven't gone for fills when they are needed. The above poster was correct too. The band is a much slower process and I think requires more work from the patient than bypass. Results are simply not as dramatic. I have to admit when I see t.v shows about bypass patients I get a bit jealous of their rapid weight loss. I made my decision for the band and I would do it all ove again. My insides are not compromised, my nutrition does not suffer, and I feel great. Good luck, please see another dr.

Jack has wonderful words of wisdom - I completely agree with him. What I don't understand is, if you aren't really eating anything and vomiting what you are getting in, why haven't you lost more weight? It doesn't make sense to me???? If you can't tolerate solids at all, I would have to assume you are overfilled, but I am certainly no expert! I am so sorry for your frustration. I wish I could offer you more help but at this point, I think a visit to the dr. is necessary. Please, keep us posted.

I had three pieces of pizza Sunday during the playoff game! I got another fill yesterday but I don't think it made one bit of difference. I ate lunch 2 hours ago and my stomach is grumbling!

When did people start noticing your weight loss?
threebeauties replied to mypov's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Barbara is so right about the clothes. I lost 35 lbs and not much was said about it until I bought some new, more flattering clothes. For me, the bigger the shirt, the more I thought it "covered" me. Now I am finding that clothes that are a bit more form fitting really show off my weight loss. Now, I'm not saying I wear tight clothes, I just tossed out the big, oversized shirts and sweaters I was wearing!! My family didn't notice anything at Thanksgiving where I had lost close to 30 lbs but at Christmas when it was 35, they couldn't believe how different I looked, weirk huh! -
I just bought a dvd at Walmart yesterday. Its a dumbell, weight training workout. I will do it later today. I have a treadmill so I have been walking for 1/2 hour every other day (I need to make that daily) and keep increasing the speed and the incline level. I think I need to increase muscle mass as well. Its important not to lose muscle, esp for us women.! I love a toned look on a woman, not skinny!

How often do you PB?
threebeauties replied to lins12's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
lovatofish Yes, slipped band means the band has slipped out of place, not necessarity off your stomach. It can be very dangerous! It is certainly possible and likely that the band will loosen after a big weight loss, however, you should be able to eat solid food every day, every meal. I know it sucks that you have to drive so far to get unfilled but what you are experiencing does not sound normal at all to me and you most likely need an unfill. Good luck! -
So happy for you!!! Great news that your band did not slip. I guess it is probably all of our fears. Hang in there. I am sure being unfilled is vey difficult but you can do it!! Kepp up the good work and before you know it, you'll be back on track. Best of luck and again, sooooooo happy for you:clap2:

Last night my DH commented that my belly was "doughy". My biggest problem area is my stomach. It seems like it is very squishy now. Any ideas why?
-
You guys really are awesome!! Thank you so much for the kind words and the encouragement. With you guys, I can't fail:clap2: Honestly, I do believe keeping in touch with this website and specifically, this thread, will make a difference in my success! Jimboss - I don't know, I guess I just need to focus again and stop thinking about Wiilie Mayes;)
-
Hey guys - I am feeling pretty discouraged. I just had a fill less than 2 weeks ago and the scale hasn't moved in a week. How are all of you losing? Steady?? How much a week???

Highly offended by the ladies of "The View"

Annie M I am just being nosy. I don't know too much about bypass surgery. What types of problems does your husband have? I understand malabsorption, what are the consequences? Again, my response to "the easy way out" debate. SO WHAT IF IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
They are right, an unfill will probably solve your problem. That seems like a lot for a first fill. Good luck

Jimboss- I think she did thank Willie:omg:

How do you lose?
threebeauties replied to Kynekke's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think you are right Faybie - your body is adjusting to a big change. The scale may not budge but it is very likely that your body is still shrinking! The best thing you can do is work throught it, don't give up (I say that because that's what I've always done in the past when I reach a plateau). It just doesn't seem fair to be working so hard and not seeing the results. Patience, patience, patience -
How do you cope when you plateau or gain?
threebeauties replied to Yvonne's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jack - thank you so much for the encouraging words. Sometimes I need a reality check!! I have been at a plateau for a few weeks and getting very discouraged, seems like I eat like a bird (not a vulture;) ) and doing a regular work out routine and NOTHING. Like Jack said, I have to remember that only 3 months ago I felt desperate and out of control. I couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Now, I'm down 37 lbs, got a cute new haircut, bought a few new clothes that actually look nice, not just cover me and have much more energy. Just last night I googled "weight loss plateau" and got a bunch of suggestions on how to get past them. The most important thing I read was that they are normal and its your body getting adjusted to change. It also said that though the lbs may not be dropping you may still be getting smaller and losing inches. Good luck, keep up the good work and don't get discouraged. I've heard so many say that they just rode it out and the lbs just started dropping again! -
Add me to the weekends are rough crew. for some reason why hubby is home the whole routine is out of whack. Jimboss - I am so happy for you that you are so dedicated and committed to yourself. Can I just add something? Don't feel bad about skipping a day or two. A healthy lifestyle is all about moderation. Don't get me wrong, I think you are awesome and I WISH I had your motivation and dedication, just saying be proud of yourself for what you HAVE done. And, by the way, you are an inspiration to me, you are responsible for me dusting off the treadmill and finally getting on it approx every other day. Good luck Oh yeah, GO PATS!!!!!!!!!!! (like dieting isn't hard enough, having MY team playing in the championship game doesn't make it any easier today!!!!!!!!!!!

Protein Drink with a Twist....kinda sorta!
threebeauties replied to hotpink_bubbles's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hotrod - I do the same thing! I even make these shakes for my kids in the a.m. I use less Protein powder though. I have mixed in fruit, yogurt, coffee syrup, or Peanut Butter. I like to know that they get protein in them before a long day at school. They don't really like to eat in the a.m. -
I am so sorry that you feel the way you do. The good news is you can start over. You have the band and its waiting there for you to use it. Fills are very tricky, too little, too much, its enough to drive you crazy. Make a fresh start, start over! Best of luck!!!
-
I agree with all of the above. That is certainly not normal. I am willing to bet that you chose the band because you wanted to lose weight in a healthy way, change your lifestyle and learn new habits, right? Please see your dr so that you can get on the right track asap. Good luck and keep us posted!

October Bandsters how much weight have you lost so far?
threebeauties replied to alicat3924's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
surgery date Oct 19th Down 37 lbs 3 fills treadmill about 4x/wk for 30 min -
I definitely feel the port!
-
One more thing I wanted to mention. Soon after my surgery I read a tread about "band regrets". The only regret MANY bandsters had was that they didn't start excersizing sooner!! Good for you for starting before the surgery. Good luck, you sound like you have your "head on straight" and will be successful.
-
It's a lot more work on my part than I had hoped. I am doing well and still think it is the best decision I could have made. For me, not matter how often I heard "the band is just a tool to help" I guess somewhere in the back of my mind I thought it would do more of the work but ,no, I have to do the work. The best thing is you have to make the right choices. With the band, if you follow the program, you will be healthy, not just thin.
