I have been thinking about the lap band for a few years. It started with a visit to a dietician after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. However, the dietician was very abrasive and kept mentioning the lap band at a time that I was not interested in even considering it. I did not go back to her and was speaking my PCP- who i just love - about the experience and she had some very supporting words about the procedure. That was at least 3 years ago and after not being able to get my diabetes under control and going through some other personal issues, I decided that it was time. Fortunately, my local hospital which is not far from my home and a smaller more intimate facility, has a reputable barriatric center so I began the appointments, had a surgery date, cancelled it, picked back up with the clearances and here I am - two weeks from surgery. At this point, no one knows, not even my husband. I have told him that I am thinking about undertaking a strict diet and cleansing regime and he knows that I have had a number of doctors visits getting a complete work up. I will have to think of something to tell him when I have to be away over night. Yipes. I'm really doing this.
