    Tossing the Scale??

I weigh myself twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. Tuesdays is just to get a "feel" for how I'm doing, If I need to decrease food/increase exercise. Friday is my "official" weigh in, which I record.

    Unfill before Trip??

I would say no to an unfill, but I don't enjoy having needles put in my stomach, so I may be biased.

    Tampons or Pads.

Neither, baby! I have an IUD in, and haven't had a period since April of 2007, before I was pregnant with my (now 2.5yr old) daughter. Being period free is glorious!
  5. SEXY!!! BTW, I have not heard the phrase "cool beans" in ages!

Need a little Support and Advice

Why don't you think your Ex will be supportive? Without knowing any details, I would say to be up front with him. Tell him you're doing it to better yourself, and if he can't accept it, accept what you're doing for yourself, than you can't accept him.
  7. I've had several comments, most from stupid people. The ones that hurt the most and are STILL with me today 8-10 years later) came from my dad. He told me on separate occasions "No one will want to hire you because you're so fat", "Who would want to marry someone so fat?" and (my favorite, about 3 weeks after becoming engaged) "I'm not going to be proud to walk you down the aisle because you're so fat". I also hate doctors because of what I've encountered. I had been off birth control for almost 2 years and was still unable to get pregnant, so I went to the Dr. We were stationed overseas, and had to go to the base doctors. I had several stupid doctors tell me different things (one told me I was making it all up). My favorite, though, was a doctor who came in, took one look at me and my weight (written on the chart) and said, "You're too fat to have kids. Put down the bonbons, get off your butt and get to a gym". He completely ignored the fact I had been working out 6 days a week and strictly following WW for 18 months with only a two pound loss to show. I took another few months (and a move to another base) before I was diagnosed with PCOS.
  8. What about schools who have had students (not just this year, but several times over the past several years, for Houston at least) Take down the American flag and raise the Mexican flag on the flag pole? Sometimes they then hand the US flag upside down under the Mexican flag. Why is that acceptable?

A quarter of the way to my goal!!

Great Job, Mary! I noticed in your siggy you're an AF wife, too! Where are y'all stationed at?

    Unfill before Trip??

Should you get unfilled if you're flying??? Why? I'm curious because I'm flying on the 18th (flying for the first time with the band).
  11. I remember that VERY well! I gave my daughter a banana, and sat there drooling and watching as she ate it. Never before had I wanted a banana so badly.

To Tell or Not to Tell?

At first, I didn't want to tell anyone I was even considering the surgery. I felt like it would be saying I'm a failure at doing this (weight loss) myself. That changed when I told my mom, and she was VERY happy for me, very happy I was making a decision for my health. I'll tell (almost) everyone now. The only people I've had a negative reaction from were people in a plus sized clothing store. I went in to buy some summery shirts and told one of the women I felt really swollen in my abdomen (I look oddly pregnant at times). She asked why, and when I told her I had WLS, the friendliness shut off. My gosh, I'm a size 22 right now (down from a 24!), and I'll probably STILL be shopping in the plus sized stores for a little while yet.
  13. Good luck everyone! I think if you can make it through the clear liquid preop diet (I had to do it for 2 weeks), you can make it work with the band!

    Yakking up pills

I was fine taking pills post op (I took Zoloft), until I had must first fill then unfill. For whatever reason, these tiny pills burned and hurt. I (stupidly, I know) went cold turkey off of them three weeks ago, because it hurt so bad. Luckily, I havent had any withdrawl symptoms or anything else. Bigger pills (like tylenol) were fine, but these tiny pills hurt! I've never heard anything about too much liquid the first few days. Maybe my surgeon just doesn't like me

    fiils

This has just been my experience, and by no means is it supposed ot represent the norm. My first fill HURT! The Dr had a hard time finding the port, and had to stick me with a needle twice. I ended up with a huge bruise (bigger than the size og a half-dollar). It ended up being too tight and I had to go back three days later for an unfill, and he had to put the needle back through the bruise. That hurt so bad I actually screamed. I just got refilled this past week, and honestly, it didn't hurt nearly as bad as the first (two) time.
  16. Mine used some protective glue and it came off 5 days post op. It took about 6 weeks for it to fully close up (he said that's normal), but it popped open a few days ago (luckily the day before a fill appt). He said it's normal and looks fine. Just wondering if anyone else has gone through this type of healing. I also have one question about it, it it might sound stupid. I'm going on vacation in 2 weeks and wanted to know how bad saltwater (ie: sea water) would be for it.
  17. I feel your pain and have been taking monthly measurements and pictures. This past month, that depressed me! It showed I had lost 2.5" off my waist (happy about that) but almost 5" off my chest! I'm terrified I'll end up flat chested but with stomach rolls.

    4th of July Challenge!

I'm in for 10lbs. I want it to be an attainable goal (I get easily discouraged if I set goals and don't meet them).

    DO Try This At Home!

I never realized how much weight I was carrying on a daily basis until I held my toddler (who weights 10lbs less than I've lost) for a while. OMG!

Underwear: yeah, you heard me right....

    I don't wear panties....

    How long post op...

I wasn't allowed to lift anything over 20lbs (including my toddler!) for 3 weeks post op. I could handle cardio (more than just walking) about the same time frame. I'm not doing crunches yet, but that's because I'm having incision issues. It might be different for others. My incision wasn't sewn shut, just glued shut (which came off 5 days post op). It was then an open wound which took a while to heal shut (the Dr said it was normal).

    How did you get fat?

I was an average weight child, but developed a weird relationship with food early on. I had an emotionally abisive (and sometimes physically abusive) father. The only time he seemed to act like normal father (loving, caring) was when food was involved. For me, food started to equate love. Fast forward until I was 16, and started dating an even more abusive man. For me, since food=love, I used food to fill the empty hollow where love should have been. I worked hard on my relationship with food, but it's still an every day struggle. Try being 22 and having your father tell you he won't be proud to walk you down the aisle because you're so fat, no one would want to hire you because you're fat, no man would ever want to marry you because you're fat. It took my husband to show me what love truely is, not something conditional, something based on what you do or what you look like. There's more to this story, involving sexual abuse by a relative, 2 years of infertility (because of PCOS), etc. But the above is really the bare bones of it.

Why do women have anal sex?

I'm one of those weird likers, but it is only a very occasional thing. It has to be in the doggy-style position, and I have my vibrator in the other hole. I'm one of those who likes to feel double stuffed (sorry for TMI).
  24. I was told to wait a minimum of 18 months post op to try to conceive. My daughter is 2 now, which means she'll be almost 5 by the time a sibling is born, if I get pregnant right away. It took 2 years to get pregnant with her (I had undiagnosed PCOS), and I worry the same will happen the next time. My surgeon said there are several reasons for waiting. 1) it allows your body to fully heal from surgery, 2) it allows you to get to your goal (or near goal) weight) and 3) it can be dangerous for the baby if you're restricting the amount you eat as severely as you do with the band. Again, that's just what I was told by my surgeon, not my personal opinions. I feel your pain, Kristy, because I'm 28 also, and want (another) baby. I wanted to try to conceive this summer, but my husband is so psycho about it he won't let me take out my IUD before November of 2011.
