lauragshsu replied to lauragshsu's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've revised the spreadsheet and added a column next to our current weight for you to put your (challenge) goal weight, where you want to be by Christmas. -

Have you been keeping your fat clothing?
lauragshsu replied to LapNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am only because the season change came right as my jeans were getting too ridiculously baggy to wear. Luckly, baggy/loose shorts aren't so ridiculous, so I'm safe for now. Money is tight until I can find a job, and I hate wasting $$ on clothes very few people are going to see. That, and I hate shopping. -

ok, here's the spreadsheet. We could start next week (end of june/first of july) or wait until the first full week of July. Thoughts? -

ok, I'm working on one, but it will only let me put 19 weeks in there, instead of the 25 we would need if we started in a week and a half. Editing to add: never mind, I figured out how to add more. I'll post the link in a minute. -

4th of July Challenge!
lauragshsu replied to LeighaMason's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only lost .4 this week. I'm happy for any loss. I've had a normal appetite, but haven't been able to exercise or do any yard work because of the pain of popping an interior stitch on Sunday. I've been laying on the couch, drugged up most of the week and dizzy from the pain meds. So I'll take a .4 loss versus a gain! -
I was just interested on what conservatives and liberals would think (if they would think differently on it). But I'll post it over there too- that thread hasn't been stirred up in a while. :bored:

Thoughts on this?? Mexico on Tuesday asked a federal court in Arizona to declare the state's new immigration law unconstitutional, arguing that the country's own interests and its citizens' rights are at stake. Lawyers for Mexico on Tuesday submitted a legal brief in support of one of five lawsuits challenging the law. The law will take effect July 29 unless implementation is blocked by a court. The law generally requires police investigating another incident or crime to ask people about their immigration status if there's a "reasonable suspicion" they're in the country illegally. It also makes being in Arizona illegally a misdemeanor, and it prohibits seeking day-labor work along the state's streets. Until recently, Mexican law made illegal immigration a criminal offense -- anyone arrested for the violation could be fined, imprisoned for up to two years and deported. Mexican lawmakers changed that in 2008 to make illegal immigration a civil violation like it is in the United States, but their law still reads an awful lot like Arizona's. Arizona's policy, which President Felipe Calderon derided during a recent U.S. trip as "discriminatory," states police can't randomly stop people and demand papers, and the law prohibits racial profiling. Mexican law, however, requires law enforcement officials "to demand that foreigners prove their legal presence in the country before attending to any issues." Amnesty International recently issued a report claiming illegal immigrants in Mexico -- typically from Central America -- face abuse, rape and kidnappings, and that Mexican police do little to stop it. When illegal immigration was a criminal offense in Mexico, officials were known to seek bribes from suspects to keep them out of jail. But Mexico said it has a legitimate interest in defending its citizens' rights and that Arizona's law would lead to racial profiling, hinder trade and tourism, and strain the countries' work on combating drug trafficking and related violence. Citing "grave concerns," Mexico said its interest in having predictable, consistent relations with the United States shouldn't be frustrated by one state. "Mexican citizens will be afraid to visit Arizona for work or pleasure out of concern that they will be subject to unlawful police scrutiny and detention," the brief said. It will be up to a U.S. District Court judge to decide whether to accept the brief along with similar ones submitted by various U.S. organizations. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who signed the law on April 23 and changes to it on April 30, has lawyers defending it in court. In a statement issued late Tuesday, Brewer said she was "very disappointed" to learn of Mexico's filing and reiterated that "Arizona's immigration enforcement laws are both reasonable and constitutional." "I believe that Arizona will ultimately prevail and that our laws will be found constitutional," Brewer added. Brewer and other supporters of the bill say the law is intended to pressure illegal immigrants to leave the United States. They contend it is a needed response to federal inaction over what they say is a porous border and social problems caused by illegal immigration. They also argue that it has protections against racial profiling. Mexican officials previously had voiced opposition to the Arizona law, with Calderon saying June 8 that the law "opens a Pandora's box of the worst abuses in the history of humanity" by promoting racial profiling and potentially leading to an authoritarian society U.S. officials have said the Obama administration has serious concerns about the law and may challenge it in court. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton recently went further by saying a lawsuit is planned.

I was in the ER yesterday for several hours with severe abdominal pain. They did a slew of tests and a cat scan and the ER Dr thought it was an infection. My surgeon called me this morning and said none of the tests (blood) had revealed any white blood cell problems, and so he didn't think it was an infection. He is thinking I popped a stitch in my port (it was nearish the port area) and is keeping me on antibiotics (just in case) and pain meds. Has anyone else experienced this? How long is it going to hurt???

I went to the ER this morning because I had intense abdominal pain. After a host of blood and urine testing, they ran a cat scan and said I had "stranding" caused by the band. The Dr (being a busy ER Dr) didn't really explain it too well to me, but said it was some time of intestinal inflamation and infection. I see my surgeon on Tuesday for some more testing. My question is, if you've had stranding, was it accompanied by vertigo, or am I just that dang lucky enough to have two problems at once?

I have PCOS and had difficulty getting pregnant, too. We were blessed with one child (my beautiful now 2.5 yr old daughter). I wanted to lose weight before we tried to conceive again. I was banded 3 months and 4 days ago and have lost (half a pound shy of) 60lbs. I was so worrried that I wouldn't be able to lose the weight, especially since I struggled for years and years with it. I was also worried I would get the weak, shakey, lightheaded/dizzy feeling I got if I didn't eat a lot and eat often enough. All these fears have been for nothing. Good luck!

I have a mirena IUD, too! LOVE it. I haven't had a period since April of 2007. I never have to worry about running out of my prescription or taking a daily pill. I also never put on any weight with it.

We Need a spell checker for this forum

I believe sliming is right. Like dining. It's not spelled dineing. You drop the E when you add ING. And to become more slim would be spelling slimming. -
can coughing a lot cause the stomach to swell?
lauragshsu posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ask because up until a week ago, I was fine, had good restriction but could eat food and keep it down. I got sick (cold) and have been coughing a lot. I noticed that when the hard coughing started, I started having trouble keeping down a lot of foods. I can still keep down some foods (mushies, some softer foods), but others I take two bites and it feels like they're stuck. Could it be I'm just swollen from all the coughing? -
I had a minimum of 144lbs to lose when I first started (just to get me in the lower portion of what's considered overweight). Even now, 54lbs down, I think "yeah, 54lbs is great, but I stil have X amount left to lose", and it seems almost impossible to me. I try and take it in small portions, 10lb increments. For example, I'm celebrating being in the 260's right now, and my next goal is to be in the 250's (something I havent been in probably 8 years). You can do this! I'll be saying a prayer for you!

Numbing medication with fills
lauragshsu replied to jessicakolman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've never had any numbing, but really wish I did. My first fill hurt, but not as bad as the unfill a few days later. I had bruised up pretty badly after my first fill and needed an emergency unfill (too tight). The giant needle had to go through the swollen, bruised area again. I actually screamed. Luckily it was a Sunday and no one else was there. When I went in for my second fill (my refill), I barely felt a poke. -
Is this infected? (warning, pic of incision)
lauragshsu replied to weso631's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just out of curiosity, what antibiotic did they give you? When I went in for a checkup post op, I told them I thought it was getting infected, so he wrote me a small prescription of amoxocylin. -
Please help - will this actually work?
lauragshsu replied to Bexster's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, it's hard to say, since most of my PCOS symptoms are being controlled by my birth control. I guess the true test will come in September of next year when we will try and conceive. I really was terrified of the shakes/weakness I sometimes got if I didn't eat enough/often enough, especially since you are eating so much less than you're used to. I haven't had a case of the shakes/weakness since I started the preop diet! Make sure that your PCOS is listed under comorbidities, as most insurances accept that. -
Is this infected? (warning, pic of incision)
lauragshsu replied to weso631's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It doesn't look infected. I was worried abotu an incision infection, too, but my Dr said unless I was running a fever (above 101), the site was hot and/or hard, not to worry too much. -
How important are the rules really?
lauragshsu replied to SavvyCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have to say, my Dr never said anything about not havign soda or alcohol after the "healing" phase, and also never told me to follow a specific diet after fills. He just said be careful of drinking your calories in any form. -
24-36 hours after surgery... how did you feel?
lauragshsu replied to CurvyCat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didn't have gas pains that bad-- only needed to take a gasX twice. The pain was definitely manageable. Heck, four days post op, I was out gardening. You should be fine, as long as you take the correct dosage of pain meds!
