Hi Everybody! My name is Sara, I am a 32 year old married mother of one daughter, who is 1. I decided last summer after attending a seminar at the local Bariatric Surgery Center to start working towards having Lap-Band surgery. I just found out last week that I was approved by my insurance! I am very excited. I have to go to a nutrition class next week and then I will find out the date for my surgery.I have struggled with my weight my entire life. The first time I went on a diet was around 10. I slimmed down around 16, but started to gain again around the age of 20, which looking back was also around the time I began to have symptoms of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. I am pre-diabetic and had insulin dependent Gestational Diabetes when I had my daughter in 2008. I think having my daughter was what really opened my eyes to the fact that my weight is a problem. Plus, I want to be a good role model for her and don't want her to have to struggle with her weight the way I have.I am very excited about having lap-band surgery. Nervous too, but mostly excited. I feel like it's a new chapter for me. I know that I am an emotional eater, and I"ve been trying to work on that...I know this process won't be easy, but I think about how different my life will be a year from now and the possibilities that life will hold for me once I can do things that I avoid now because of my weight, like roller coasters and clothes shopping. I look forward to sharing my experiences with all of you!
