5 days postOP and feeling great!

I know that we are all different when it comes to shapes, sizes, bone structure etc. BUT I was wondering what your starting weight was and what you had in mind for a goal weight. I'm 5'3, 247lbs (was 267lbs, had to lose to qualify for surgery) and my goal is to get down to 127lbs. I've seen, randomly here some other goal weights. Just curious!

Any one doing this? If you are do you feel its a very important part of your success?

Well I made it  Went in yesterday at 7:15am and was home by 3:30pm! All is going well, the gas pain yesterday was the worst, but gasX is a good friend. Feeling pretty good today, drinking lots of Water, not hungry at all but sipped down an EAS shake. So far so good! Glad to be on the other side of the fence

Lap Band Surgery Day Stories
bwhitty replied to pennyt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Finally PostOp...was banded yesterday the 18th. Arrived at the hospital at 7:15AM, taken to my prep room. Changed to my lovely gown and got some lovely turquiose booties. Weighed in (lost 2lbs more) then laid in bed for about 40 minutes before my nurse came in to IV me, leg compressions, Pregnancy test etc.... the WLS cooridinator came in and talked to me for about 30 minutes. Had an EMT student come in with, kissed my hubby and mom and they wheeled me away about 10:15am. The nurse put some happy meds in my IV and last thing I recall is getting on the OR table and the mask being put on my face. I have no idea what time I was in the recovery area, dozing off and on. Then wheeled to my recovery room, it was a little after 1pm. My family came in, said the surgeon came to visit them. I did well in surgery, lost about 1t of blood and he said everything inside looked good. He had told me last week, he was happy to have an abdominal virgin (since I'd never had any prior surgeries or given birth). Had to drink 8oz of water but my throat was so dry I ended up with 16oz. Nurse got me up for a walk and said if I could make the loop I could go home. Yippee! Walked and did fine, she took out the IV. I got dressed and headed home, it was about 3:30p. Abdominal pain isn't so bad, taking a little of the pain meds for that, it was the gas pains that hurt the most. But I do my little walk around the house, slept really well last night and now sitting in the TV room typing, and feeling pretty good. Gas has gone down, using some GasX strips which really have helped. Sipped down a EAS high protein shake and drinking lots of water. So far so good  Next appointment is on the 6th of December. Dr. Bryan Anderson at St. Alphonsus in Boise Idaho... great guy and came highly reccomended! -
Not losing only eating 600 calories a day, anyone else experience this?
bwhitty replied to lisab1965's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've seen a few researchers saying that if you are eating less then 1000 calories a day you have a harder time losing weight, sometimes even gaining. I believe your body is telling you to 'feed me' -

Dear Me, Are you ready? Soon you are going to be making a change. Soon you are going to have surgery! Are you ok? Love, Me OMG!!! I am so excited, I probably should be a little nervous, I mean after all I am CHOOSING to have surgery. But years of trying different diets, programs and pills, this is it. My mind is so wrapped around making this a success. Granted I'm PreOP as of today and at PostOP have 6 weeks of liquid/puree, I feel I am in the right place in my life and mind. I have filled my tool belt so when my surgery is complete I will have ALL the tools I need. My family is behind me 100%, my husband is totally excited for me becaue he knows of all the sadness being overweight has brought me. He's excited too, because he's going to be eating better and losing along with me. I'm not one to think about the future or worry about it but I am thinking about it now, and what its going to mean for me. It all feels so right! :bored:

Not sure if you have Vitamin Shoppe where you are, but I have been buying "Carlson's" brand of liquid Omega-3, its lemon flavored. I do not like taking it alone but have been mixing in a berry flavored yogurt and its not bad.

Hey all.... ONE MORE DAY!! Banding on November 18th,,,I'm so excited I can hardly stand it...
-
I'm so excited!! I told my mom today... "am I weird for saying, I'm excited to have surgery"... LOL I think I have been mentally putting myself in the right place... I just wanna get it done and be on the other side
-
My Doc actually had be lose 10% before surgery, so I've been doing that.
-
I have read a few places in the forums where people have made the comment "I can eat whatever I want"... I will be banded soon and I keep thinking about this a lot! In my head I believe that I should be making changes and actually not eating whatever I want, because that is what got me to the weight I am now. So is that just a general comment or are most of you eating all the things you want? I know there will be times that I have something I do want, but I can't make it all about that. If I don't make the entire life changes to make this work I might as well not do it. Just curious

hmmmm "why am I FAT?" I was in my normal weight range as a child, maybe 10-15lbs overweight as a teen, then my 20's showed up and I climbed higher and higher on the scale. About 3 years ago I hit my heaviest, at 304lbs!! A family full of overweight people, wasn't much of an inspiration to lose. I am FAT because: I love food I love cooking and tasting what I cook I love carbs i.e. pasta, breads, chips etc. I can't say no. I always felt pressured to lose weight, and it never felt as if I wanted to do it so I just ate more. I have never really changed my lifestyle of eating habits. I do not exercise regularly. Food makes me feel happy. I used food as a band aid. I never liked or loved myself. I am breaking up with food. I will control it, it won't control me.

Hey All, Surgery on the 18th, feeling excited and anxious! Never thought I would be excited to say 'hey, I'm having surgery' but I am. I have a totally supportive family so its helping to make this journey easier. I've enjoyed reading a small chunk of this thread, thanks for all the good advice

Mine is the 18th. Not feeling nervous more anxious.... I just wanna be on the other side of the band -
I haven't been banded yet but in a few days and my Doctor specifically said "if you CAN NOT drink fluids, come in immediately". He mentioned it may take a couple days for it to be where it should be, due to possible swelling right after a fill but you should ALWAYS be able to drink. I'd bust a move to my Doc

Me too! I wish you the best, we can swap stories

Well... November 18th is the big day! Lots of thoughts running through my mind today. I think I have gotten myself in the right frame of mind to do this and make it work 100%. After all the appointments and waiting, I can not and will not fail. As I lose I need to keep reminding myself why I did this, and where I have been. I feel the hardest part is going to be changing my mind on how I feel about food. We've had such a relationship over the years and its going to be hard to break up, but I can't let it run my life any more. It has truly been a bad drug. It has only been a quick fix and I am going to work on my mind, to know a quick fix never really fixes any thing.

I use BodyTech "Whey Tech" (from VitaminShoppe), the vanilla is like a powdered creamer. It blends in really smooth. One scoop has 17g of protein, 1g fat & 3g carbs
