  1. Thanks for the replies. I know that it is a very active workout. In fact I would be more bummed except I see reall improvement in my muscle tone and cardio level. I think in general I am eating about 1,000 calories a day and while I haven't tracked exactly how much protein I am getting I try to make sure that is the main part of any meal.
  2. I was banded June 28, 2010 and my Doctor said the same thing as long as you are losing weight no need for a fill. I am grateful for that. Everything has gone well I feel restriction and no problems of things getting stuck, etc. Hope it continues and I don't ever need a fill.

    Driving after surgery

I also drove at 3 days after surgery.
  4. I think absolutely it makes a huge difference in how quickly we lose weight but also in our general appearance regardless of actual number of pounds. I can actually feel muscles in my legs, arms, etc that our there from keeping to a regular exercise routine.
  5. Down 37 pounds since June 28.
  6. Happy to report the first 2 months with the lap band have gone better than expected. I have lost 35 pounds so far and I haven't had to have a fill yet! I am sure it will get harder but fingers crossed I have not seemed to have any of the problems a lot of people seem to have. Very happy I made the decision to get banded.
  7. Good luck to everyone. Glad to hear there are others who are having a similar experience.
  8. My butt and thinghs. Thank good since that is where most my weight is!! I have gone from a size 16 pre-surgery to a size 12 in 2 months.

    Water question?

I was told 15 min before and 60 min after though from what I have seen here there is a lot of variation on this rule from doctor to doctor.

    Waiting between bites

That is crazy. My nutritionist says if always to aim to finish eating in 20-30 minutes because if you go over that you are starting over again.

    Only eat 3x/day???

My Doctor likes me to eat just the 3 meals a day but said if I have to snack just make sure it is a good protein. I end up having an afternoon snack about half the time and when I do try to have something like string cheese or greek yogurt. Good luck!
  13. Even though I have lost 30lbs (and that from what I weighed the day before surgery) it has not been in a straight line at all. Lost 17 lbs very quickly and then stalled and then lost another 11 and stalled for another 10 days and then the last 4 days I have lost about a pound a day. I just think it is a process and there will be definite ups and downs. I do particularly agree with the problem of not eating enough especially when you are exercising quite a bit.
  14. For me the key to exercising is variety. I know I will get bored if I do the same thing all the time. Just this past week I joined LA Boxing and really like it. But on top of that I go to the gym, play tennis or just go for a nice walk. In this way I don't get bored and am less likely to stop exercising because of boredom. On another note I just have to share I was banded June 28, 2010 and this morning reached 30lbs lost!!
  15. I have to take a multi vitamin and calcium.

    Barium Swallow

I never had to do a barium swallow. Not sure why but glad I didn't have to.
  17. I have Cigna which requires a 6 month wait. My first appt was in early Sept 2009. I had surgery June 28, 2010. A long process but definitely worth it.
  18. I have told everybody. I don't care what other people speak and I think it is just easier than keeping a secret. I have not any negative comments from anybody.
  19. Just had my one month post-op appt and everything is great. I went in there not wanting a fill since everything has been going great but was prepared just in case he did want to do a fill. He agreed that we shouldn't change anything if everything is working right and I have another appt next month to evaluate again. Also, cleared me for all physical activity. Originally he had told me to wait 2 months to lift weights, etc. but since he said I seem to be a very fast healer I could go ahead and work out as much as I want. Yeah 26 lbs down in first month (I was never on a liquid diet beforehand). My goal for next month is 15 lbs which may be too ambitious but gives me something to shoot for. Good luck everyone.
  20. Mine was not over 20lbs for 2 weeks.
  21. Thanks for the support. The last month I have not had a set cardio schedule but in general have just tried to mix it up since I will start getting bored otherwise. Doing 5-6 days of cardio a week. 2 of those days I try and do a full hour usually splitting up between 30 min elliptical and 30 min treadmill. Other days I try to do at least 40 minutes cardio but split it up into smaller increments (ex 10 min rowing, 10 min bike, etc). As far as eating I just try to be sensible and always remember Protein first. For example last night for dinner had boneless chicken thigh, spoonful of potatoes and small amount of green breans. Today for lunch had Garbanzo (mediterranean fast food) had serving of their chicken and just a little rice. The other great thing is there is always plenty of leftovers whenever you eat out.
  22. Dr. gave no firm recommendations on when I could start driiking but have steered clear just because I know they are empty calories and I don't want to screw up. Also, some drinks have A LOT of calories. Guess when I do drink I will have something like vodka and cranberry juice.
  23. Just a different view point. I am about a month out and have an appt on Friday for my first fill. I plan on going in and telling him please don't give me one. I can eat limited amounts, stay full for long periods and have not had any of the unpleasant side effects that so many seem to have. All I am saying is maybe he is so conservative because the band really is different for all people and that approach is the best way to judge what is needed for each person individuall without under/over filling anyone. Sorry it is not going well.
  24. I also had never had surgery before so I was a little worried but really was an easy experience. I did take pain meds on and off for the first week (mainly to help sleep at night). I never even filled the prescription for the anti-nausea meds. I can't say I had any real pain but some definite discomfort at incision sites the first week. I went back to work after one week with no problem. Good luck!
