Looking for encouragement
jmunks2000 replied to wendyhart's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Get the band, let it work for you like it has for many of us. Eating habits will have to change, sure, but the weight goals being long time is well worth it. I was banded 4 months ago and I LOVE IT! It is an easy surgery with limited complications and is reversible but I doubt you'll ever want it removed. Go for it! -
Yesterday, I took a trip to Walmart to buy some curtain rods for my living room. I ended up purchasing the rods along with a bunch of other stuff. Among the stuff, I purchased a Jullian Michael workout DVD along with three Biggest Loser videos. Does anyone use any of these? I usually walk at the track and do Wii Fit/Wii Active but I am still starting to have wobbly skin. Is it too late to start tightening up? I hope not.

How much weight did u lose the first week?
jmunks2000 replied to robinbare's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! I don't know how much I lost in the first week cause I didn't weigh in but I gained 1 pound the first month. Keep up the good work. -

Eating differently does get easier with time. I haven't had a soda in over a year. I got surgery four months ago but had already conditioned my mind to not drink soda, as I did for many other things. I elimintated things from my diet slowly during my four month observation that the insurance required. I logged my foods daily and brought the logs to my nutritionist monthly. She reviewed them and suggested substitutes and eliminations for certain things. The real change to my eating habits happened about a month before surgery. The 2 week pre-op made all of the difference and really helped me realize that many of the old choices were no longer options. Does the fill hurt? Nope How long are you sore or hurting after the operation? I was never sore. I had alot of pain from the gas three days after surgery that lasted for about a week. I walked the gas out and used a heating pad. They also give you a prescription for pain.

My first blog; my daily journal, perhaps?
jmunks2000 commented on brittanyinohio's blog entry in Blog 95607
ditto imaluckydog. Brittany, you have lost your motivation. You have to stay focused and do what's right even when it is unpopular. My parents and siblings eat out daily. They always call me over to go to some restaurant. When I do go with them, I read the menu online ahead of time and order what I know are the healthy selections or I simply ask for grilled chicken and steamed veggies. Most restaurants have that even if it's not on the menu. I don't bother reading the menu once I get to the restaurant cause I don't want to be tempted. I remember those $1 ice teas from McNasty's (McDonald's) I used to drink them often. You gotta not stop there, PERIOD! Also, the bad foods in the house.....I have three young kids but guess what? I don't buy the junk or if I buy a few snacks for them, I buy some snacks for me. My snacks are things like fat free pudding, sf popsicles, protein bars, trail mix, and tuna.... even chips and salsa, but I stick to the serving sizes indicated on the nutritional facts. Take the time and plan every meal, Remember to eat lean proteins to keep you full. Maybe motivate the bf so you two can make some different food choices together. There is no sense in having the band if you are not going to do what's right. I tell myself, the band is going to do its job, I have to do mine. By your writing this blog, I know you can do it. Get back in touch with your doctor and get back in the game. Imagine what you want to look like as a teacher and make that happen. I am an elementary teacher, and believe me, it is easier to work with that age group when you're less heavy. It is an active job and you are constantly on the floor with the kids among other things. Again, it's not too late to get back in the game. -
How much weight loss is expected during the first 2 weeks?
jmunks2000 replied to trixj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. I actually gained weight my first month (prolly from the mushies) and my surgeon told me not to worry. After my third fill, the weight started steadily coming off, so be be patient as someone else suggested. -
Have you been keeping your fat clothing?
jmunks2000 replied to LapNYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I donated those big clothes and have already started mad shopping. I will save a pair of pants to remember not to ever go back there. That's all! -
I know the feeling, gotta love it. I read a thread about a lady who was sad because she could no longer shop in her favorite clothing store because the clothes no longer fit. I kept thanking, I wouldn't be said about that....but you know what, it is a happy and sad feeling. Congrats!!!!

I was telling a family member about my routine foods that I eat post surgery and post fills. I mentioned SF jello and SF popsicles. She wanted to know why the items had to be Sugar Free. My immediate response was, "Because my surgeon said so", but I'd like to provide a more informative answer. I know that less simple sugar in your diet is better for cravings and weightloss but is this the justification for eating SF jello and popsicles? Please give me your input. Thanks!

My Dr's office said to start walking immediately. The only thing I really had to wait for was sit-ups and crunches. For that, they said six months wait but I started at four months....this month! They should/will give you literature that answers these type of questions.

You'll make it for sure. This was the hardest part for me but I LOVED seeing those numbers on the scale during pre-op. You're almost there.

Is this what real "Restriction" feels like?
jmunks2000 commented on OldSchool76's blog entry in Blog 85786
You're not an idiot. You just like good food like all of us do and the taste buds still want to taste... even after we're full. hehe. The struggle will subside as the weeks following this fill pass. Hang in there and just enjoy that soft full. I usually start washing the dishes or I take a brief walk when I'm wanting to eat more after I had my serving. Good luck -
well, I hated the pre-op plan, but it was prolly like you said... a psychological battle. i would hate to have to do it again, but probably can since the results are so awesome. Thank you for posting this.

That is what my diet consisted of. I added frozen blackberries or strawberries to my shakes. My doc okayed that. But I had to make sure they were sugar free. I even added a spoon of peanut butter to my shake every now and then when I got bored with it. I lost 21 pounds (18 by their scale) in two weeks on my pre-op. Good luck:D
