I have been overweight for some time, but it became very difficult, almost impossible to lose the weight once I became diabetic (type II).  My dad was also heavy and had type II diabetes.  My younger brother, overweight and with type II.  My grandmother had type II diabetes.  I have been on Weight Watchers and going to the gym and only lost 3 pounds in a year.  I could gain weight from a carrot.  My husband and I both went on Jenny Craig.  He lost weight and I stayed the same.  I have tried so hard, for so many years and to no avail.  I finally went to a bariatric surgery seminar in the fall and listened to the 2 hour information session.  I slept on it and made my decision to go with the realize band.  The gastric bypass seemed too invasive, and I felt more comfortable with a steady weight loss.  I then went through all the hoops my insurance required - a letter from my endochronologist, 6 months of weigh ins by an MD, an evaluation by a phsychologist, and of course, meeting with a nutritionist.  I met with my surgeon and his nurse practitioner and scheduled my surgery.   I am still working on getting in all my band fills - and hope to begin dropping some weight very soon.
