I slept most of the day yesterday. Today my tummy area is quite sore, but other than that I feel pretty good. Liquids are staying down well. I really wanted something warm this morning so I had some diet hot chocolate with protien. I tried some of that. I had no problem and I think I felt a little more full. Hope I'm not rushing it. :rolleyes2: I did get up and pick up the house a little. Didn't load/unload the disher. Still a little too much bending required for that. Working from home on my computer.

Spring into March 2010 Bandsters
Neverquit replied to NYSparklegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my surgery yesterday. They came in and said they were going to give me something to relax me and then put me to sleep in the operating room. I do not remember anything after that. When I woke up I was a little disoriented and only the slightest bit of nausea. I never threw up. They gave me something. The made me start drinking water right away. I also had 2 sugar free popsiciles - that helped a lot. I was pretty comfortable. There was some burning just below my breatbone (like indigestion). The doctor said that it was from the manipulation of the stomache required to put on the band and that it would get better. They let me come home. I slept off and on a lot of the day. My stomach is sore this morning. I am sticking to the liquids. The told me water (flavored it OK), jell-o, unsweetened juice, and broth. I did want something warm this morning and I had some diet hot chocolate with protien. I drank it and had no problem....actually feel a little more full and not as deprived. I did pick up the house a little ....always a sign I'm on the mend. I have a desk job and I'm really hoping to go back to work in the next day or two. -
Well the surgery is over and I am back at home. It went very quickly. I did not throw up. Any pain or nausea is minor. I do have some burning just under my breast bone that the doctor says comes from the manipulation of my stomache to put on the band. They gave me water and popsiciles. I found the popsiciles the most soothing. You guys are right walking around did help quite a bit. Just trying to take it easy. I am trying some broth this afternoon. We will see how that goes. I was told I can only have water (flavoring is OK), unsweetened juice, jello or clear broth for the next 7 day. Bet that is going to get old. Just happy the surgery is finally over the the adventure starts here. My weight was down from 240 my last visit to 233. I was pleased with that.:rolleyes2: Still very sleepy.....gotta go.

Good luck. I had my surgery today. I stayed up all night because I was so nervous. It turned out not to be that bad. Any pain is very managable. I did not throw up and I have not had any problem keeping down the clear liquids that I am allowed to have. Hopefully your experience will be the same.

Well today is the big day. I have to be at the hospital at 5:30am. I'm nervous. I guess we all are. The unknown is really scary. I had an unrelated surgery several years ago that was very difficult and difficult to recover from. I think I keep having flashbacks to that and expect the worst. I know I'm being silly. Everyone has been supportive here. So greatful for this site. I know the surgery only takes about an hour and I will be able to go home afterward. Just gotta keep thinking positively.:rolleyes2: I know this is really wierd. I know I'm 240 lbs with a entire host of health problems that will hopefully be improved by this surgery. But what is strange is that in my mind I am not that weight. I do not think of myself as overwieght until I am out somewhere and catch a glimpse of myself in a mirror. Or the doctor says if you would loose some wieght your sleep apnea would go away. Strange huh.

So happy for you. I have my surgery today. I can only hope I do as well as you.

I'm so sorry you are feeling this way. Hang in there. This is a total new life adjustment. I have my surgery today. My fear is that in a few days I will be where you are now. I just can't imagine breaking off this romance that I have with food and what I am going to replace it with. Feel free to rant if you need too. We are hear to listen.

There's a [thin] line between Love & Hate...

Girl, I know what you mean. I have surgery today...all week I have been kind of withdrawn for me. Trying to process the new life I will have without the food love in my life. I am an emotional eater as well. Sometimes I feel like that time with food is one of the main things I look forward to in the day. Cant imagine breaking off this relationship, but I know it is something I have to do. -

Why do I feel like I need to eat to everything I can before my surgery. I am so mad at myself because I know I'm over eating right now. I think it is nerves.

Doctor pre-op doctor's visit is getting close. I go Tuesday....Do you guys have any trouble throwing up? I have heard some people do. Do you begin to loose weight right away or do they leave your band so open initially that there is not a lot of change? I know I'm full of questions.

So happy things are getting better for you. Keep us posted on your progress. You are a few weeks ahead of me and I can learn lots from your information.

I did try to buy some protein shakes, green tea, etc. at the grocery store yesterday. Thought I would try them. Some people have mentioned them on here so I thought I should begin to experiment.

Well I have been reading for a while, but now I'm finally brave enough to post. I have been approved for my surgery by my insurance company. I have my pre-surgery visit to my doctor on Feb. 16th and my surgery is scheduled for March 1st. Have to say I am both excited and scared. I had told myself at one time that I was just going to have to accept that I was a larger person and learn to live with it. However, I started developing more and more health issues: High blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, back pain.....It became evident that I needed to do something in order to make sure that I am here to see my children grow. If anyone has tips they can give, please do. I an use all the recommendations I can get.

Thanks for your encouragement. Did you loose weight right away in the first month? I read yesterday some posting from people who said they were stuggling with being hungry. Did you have that problem?
-
OK. Surgery only takes about an hour?
Sounds like there is some pain and discomfort afterward?
I have not been told to go on a liquid diet prior to surgery. Should I?
My doctor did tell me that I would probably be on a diet for about 6 weeks after the surgery....does that seem like a long time compared to others?

Spring Break Banding- March 12!
Neverquit replied to Lemonhed84's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my surgery on March 1st. My pre-op appt is on Feb. 16th. I have to go by myself since my hubby is on business travel. I have already pre-registered at the hospital and go all my bloodwork. Will be nice to have others to go through this adventure along with me. I did go grocery shopping tonight. Got some sugar free jello, protein shakes, etc. even though my doctor has not yet told me to go on a liquid diet pre-surgery yet. I thought I would try it. They have told me that I would be on a liquid diet for 6 weeks after surgery. Does that seem like a long time? Seem like that I have read other posts that indicated they were able to move on to solid foods quicker. -
Spring into March 2010 Bandsters
Neverquit replied to NYSparklegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello, My surgery date is March 1, 2010. I am in Alabama. My surgeon is Dr. Edward Facundus. I had my first consult back in November, 2009. I had my mamogram, physc evaluation, Stress Test, blood work, etc. all was sent to my insurance company and they have now approved me for surgery. I feel very fortunate that it looks like BCBS anthem will cover it 90%. I am not really sure what to expect. I have surveyed many people I know who have had lapband or gastric bypass prior to make this decision. To every person I asked, "If you had this to do over, would you still choose to have the surgery?" Every person said yes with no hesitation. I read all these wonderful success stories on here. I am afraid that I will not be successful. Fear of failure can play mess with your mind. -
congradulations. I have mine on March 1st. I fully understand your excitement. Please keep us posted. Maybe you can help ease some of my apprehension.
