6 months is a long time
PuppyBandit replied to Timoyal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in the middle of my 6 month pre surgery stuff also. Some have said the 6 months goes fast, it is going slow for me. I'm so ready to have this surgery. When I first learned about the 6 month wait, I was mad, I had been considering this surgery for 2 years and was ready, had I known, I would have started the process 6 months earlier LOL. But each month I go to my required monthly nutritionist visit and learn something new and talk about how I am preparing. Each month I get a little closer to the surgery. They have gotten me to change 1 thing each month in the hopes I won't be in total shell shock when I get the surgery. I understand the reasoning behind preparing for it and all that, but I still wish I could get the surgery next week LOL. Try not to watch your calendar too much, that has been my problem. Good luck! -
Surgery will be October 2010 I think
PuppyBandit posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shooting for October for my surgery but really want it now LOL. The thought of another summer feeling like I do is depressing. I just had my #3 of 6 monthly appointments last week. So that means May will be 4 of 6, June 5 of 6 and July 6 of 6. I can't have surgery in Sept due to my work, and I'm sure it will take a while for the insurance to process the request after my 6 of 6 appointment in July. So my guess is October as my surgery month. Guess I'll be getting a ring for my birthday after all ! A ring around my stomach  October sure seems a lifetime from now though. Sigh. -
Finally Nervous.. 2nd thoughts
PuppyBandit replied to monkeymama's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When you get there they will prob give you something to chill you out, then when they put that iv in, you'll be snoozing in no time  -
A few years ago when I had a surgery, I was told not to drive for at least 3 days after you are put under for any surgery. The meds to knock you out are extremely strong your reflexes are not normal. So even though you may feel like driving, I wouldn't for 3 days at least.

Death is imminent

I hear in your words that you are on your last thread, don't you give up. Have you researched your insurance appeal process? I had a friend who had to go before the insurance board to get them to even consider the surgery for her. She finally did get it and has since lost over 100 pounds. Don't give up, the real you is hiding in there and your kids need you Considering all your health issues the insurance company would save money in the long run if they let you have this surgery. -
I am SO impatient!!!

Candy Rain, those are your records not theirs. You can request a copy of each thing they have, you may have to pay for it, but it is your right to have a copy of it. I had a problem getting my 2005, I changed to a diff PCP in 2006, so 2006-2010 were easy to get. I had to finally go to my obgyn and get my weigh in records from them for 2005. We always find a way  Good luck! -
Wow that is great! I'm still months away, but I heard someone say no white food because it is usually high carb. LOL on the above post about the food walking on 4 legs

I'm telling people I'm close to about my plans. When I start losing and if people ask I will tell them, I have gone through the "don't tell anyone" with a friend, and it's hard to keep up with who she told and who she didn't. When she lost the initial fast weight everyone was asking me if she had the bypass surgery, so I was able to truthfully say no. But most times people will suspect anyway. We have someone at work who had it but kept it secret and that person told me. So now that person won't come to our work dinners because people don't know. It's all a bit dramatic LOL. If someone asks I will tell. If they smart off about it or say I'm taking the easy way out, well they can kiss my butt. Good luck. Just remember the more people you tell, the more likely they are to tell. People get jealous when their fat friend gets thin.

EMERGENCY! Need advice!!
PuppyBandit replied to fritty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tell them you're on antibiotics for something, you're not supposed to drink on antibiotics. -
You will have glue put on you so they can stick the wires all over you. They even put it in your hair. I had long hair when mine was done and it was hard to wash it out. I didn't sleep much to be honest, but the little I did sleep they were able to get readings on it. I sleep on my stomach and I had to sleep on my back and with so many wires couldn't move without getting tangled. Plus you have a mask on for the study, so that is a pain in the rear too. Good luck and don't drink any caffeine or anything that will keep you from getting sleepy. I take tylonel pm to sleep and I took it that night. If you use a sleeping aid, take it LOL.

Wow, you sound like a really strong person to go through that. Hope all gets better for you. -
I am almost 1 year not smoking and it was the hardest thing I ever did. I smoked 2 packs a day, it was like a pay raise for me LOL. Go to Quit Smoking Journals - Free Quit Smoking Support Group and Stop Smoking Journal if you need support, it's a great quit smoking site. I would not have succeeded in my quit without the great support there.

LOL, poor thing:tongue:

I always weigh different on my home scales than I do at the doctor office. Do you have scales that are accurate and also agree with your doctors office? The main thing is scales that weigh the same if I get off them and back on. Mine change if I get off and back on LOL. Thanks!

Anyone going to Vanderbilt for lap band?
PuppyBandit posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in month 2 of my 6 months of required appointments and all the jumping through the hoops. Just curious if anyone else is going to Vanderbilt for their weight loss surgery, or is that where you had it? My surgeon is Dr. David Williams at Vanderbilt. If all goes as planned this will be my last summer feeling like crap. How do you add the avatars and stuff? I'm pretty forum savvy but can't seem to find the area on this forum to do it. I know about ticker factory and all that, just can't find the place here to put it. This place is great :tt1: -
What the heck?!?! Why do people say the things that they do?
PuppyBandit replied to gingerjane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is so true. Also, it applies to smokers in some ways. And I've seen many people, over weight and normal weight do the exact same thing to smokers. I used to smoke and it would make me boil when some ass would say "just quit, what's so hard about that". Sounds eerily like "just eat less, what's so hard about that". food for thought. On topic, I've told a few people but not many. I have a neice-in-law who will be verbal about it, but oh well! I like verbal sparring so bring it on LOL. I think I did my time being obese, if lap band is what it takes, I can't wait! Negative people bring you down and are not worth putting up with. I guess they would prefer you/we be unhealthy, unhappy and not living life to the fullest. Life is too short to NOT get the lap band in my opinion. -
299 lbs today!! 52lbs down 3/19/10 Big milestone for me. It's been about 4 years since I've been out of 300's. Today was a very good day.

Am I the only one?
PuppyBandit replied to Chantal0616's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am only telling a select few for now but do plan to be open about it after I get the surgery. I don't want to jinx it by talking about it before insurance approval. Also, I don't want people looking at what I eat before the surgery, you know the looks "if you didn't eat that you would lose weight" looks. -
"Pre-Op"...BOY was I wrong!
PuppyBandit replied to BriBri90's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At 18 I smoked but was able to not smoke for days, I smoked for 29 years almost 2 packs a day. When the taxes went up last year, it finally reached a price I refused to pay. I quit smoking on May 5, 2009 and am almost to 1 year. I was the one nobody thought would quit. I wanted to say that to let you know it can be done. I am sorry you have the stress of surgery also, that is a double whammy. My help for quitting was typing in a journal, I typed and typed every time I wanted to smoke. I stayed away from the other people in my life for a while too because my mood was sour and very bad. It's very dangerous to be put under for surgery if you smoke. My lap band center insists you quit 3 months prior to surgery and also not even use nicotine replacement one month prior to surgery. I hope you find peace with this, I know it is such a hard thing to do. When you do it you will be so proud of yourself. -
Free Lap band finalist
PuppyBandit replied to slimmindawndown's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Voted for you, good luck! -
Replace the word hungry with wanting to smoke and that was me about 10 months ago. I quit smoking and was pissed at everything because I couldn't smoke (I could have, but wouldn't because I wanted to quit). When I saw someone smoking, I'd snarl at them on the inside, how dare they be allowed to smoke! I craved it (still do at times) and was just mad, ill and bitchy. I'm working on the approval process for lap band and fear I'll be just like you, except then I won't be able to smoke or eat, I'll be mary poppins huh

Sleep Study - or Fun with Wires
PuppyBandit replied to erikaw1971's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this about a year ago and it was horrible, the glue in the hair (ugh). At one point during the night I just threw one of the pillows across the room and said the F word, would love to see that video LOL. I sleep half on my stomach and side and there was no way to get in my sleeping position. -
I have opted to tell people, but only those closest to me. But if asked, I am going to tell. I’m in month 2 of the 6 month pre surgery requirements of my insurance. I’ve only officially told 4 people at work, I told my supervisor, who previously unknown to me is also in the 6 month pre op stages of the gastric bypass, our surgeries will be within a few months of each other so that will make it easier. The only reason we found out about each other was the yellow notebook the weight loss surgery center gave us. His was on his desk and I recognized it LOL. The best thing is we go to the same doctor and so he is ahead of me on everything so I can ask advice since we have same insurance. I was going to tell him anyway since I have to do all these appointments to get approved. The main reason I am not keeping it secret is my best friend had the lap band about 5 years ago and didn’t tell anyone and since then it’s been the “big secret” and when we go out to eat and if something makes her a little sick, she can’t say anything and then when she goes to the restroom, everyone asks me what is wrong with her. The first 6 months people kept asking me if she had gastric bypass or was sick, I could honestly say no (because she was banded LOL) but didn’t like being put in that position. She didn’t tell any of her family or most of our friends. Only about 6 people know officially, but I know many suspect she had weight loss surgery. These days, when someone loses a vast amount of weight very quickly, it is usually suspected they had bariatric surgery anyway. I’d rather just tell it and not let it worry me… I’m sure to get some of those looks that I am lazy and should try to lose the “normal” way. If I could do that, I wouldn’t want the surgery LOL.
