Im a 29 year old mother and wife who also happens to be a paramedic. For the majority of my life I was very fit and in shape. I was a firefighter and never really had to be concerned with what I ate as I always managed to burn it off. When I became pregnant and found myself alone with a young child I became very depressed but I did not recognize this at the time. Looking back I realize that because I had lost so much of myself to this other role I was turning to food just to get through the day. I now know that I was eating my way through stress and boredom right into an early grave. I gained about 140lbs in 6 years! I am at a point inmy life where I am going to regain control of myself. The lap band I see as a tool to help me achieve the final step in becoming the me that I always knew was there. I have worked really hard on different coping mechanisms and just plain acceptance of circumstances and need some help when it comes to the weight. It has gotten so out of control that I cant do this without some help. Surgery is in less then a month and I can start new again!
