Help! Banded 3 wks ago and not losing weight
dees-only-girl replied to Maryladybugmlv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi...I was banded in late February and just like you...I lost at first(2-3 wks) but, now at 3 months and 1 wk post op I have lost a total of 25 lbs. I keep struggling with the last 3-4 lbs as in gaining/losing the same 3-4. My MD says this should not be a diet and when it feels like a diet then I need a fill. Well I have had 3 and I am scheduled for another on 6/22. Sometimes I feel so confused cause the md says this shouldn't be a diet, but in the same sentence he wants to know how much I eat and what I eat. He will make negative sounds or comments when I eat more than I should or things I shouldn't. Isn't that a diet? I really do not wanna be bashing him cause I do like him and I feel like this is my problem...I'm the cause, but I do wanna be going in the right direction. I don't know if you have even begun to deal with anything like this, but I would appreciate your comments. -
What have you gotten rid of since surgery?

Maybe an allergy to a food or food product. -
Bet you're sorry you voted for Obama now
dees-only-girl replied to El Diablo's topic in Rants & Raves
Hi...I really do know better than to discuss politics and religion...but to explain the statement I made last night is important. Think about it...Clinton (democrat) did leave the country in the black when he left office(his moral character did not have any impact on his leadership even though most americans did not approve of it he shouldn't have been judged by it cause Jehovah God will do that). Then we elected Bush(republican) and he all but sent us in to a depression:thumbdown:...committing us to a deep debt and making it a unreal job for the president-elect to fix in his first four years. It will be a job to just maintain status quo, and not go into more debt that cannot be paid in a timely fashion...but President Obama(democrat) has taken on that challenge and actually is making some headway. We are finally getting some wiggle room...no matter how small it is. I applaud him for his efforts and successes.:thumbup: -

Please...I think you need to do some honest research about the last 18-20 years...democrat-republican-democrat. -

My question is kinda hard to explain but I hope that I can explain it well enough that people that have experienced the same feelings can give me some feedback. I do realize that when I start to feel the "burn" in my chest that I have either eaten too much or not chewed well enough or taken too big of a bite....but even though I do have those warnings...if I slow down, I can and do eat a lot. Probably about 1-2 cups. I read about people having pb's or actually vomiting, and to me that is a sure sign that you need to change what or how much you eat - change something. Besides the uncomfortable feeling - which I can get past or tolerate unless it is too bad...I have only had pb's 2-3 times. Isn't that the ultimate sign that you should not eat any more?:bored: I was banded on 2/26/10 and my weight loss has come to a halt in the last 2 weeks. I am asking for constructive comments. I would also like to hear from banded people who have experienced the same feelings...common sense tells me that everyone is an individual and is/feels different, but maybe this is my only indication that I need to slow down, stop, chew more or avoid certain things because I am not at restriction. (at least I don't think I am...I would know wouldn't I?) I have always been a big eater. In other words I can eat alot...especially when It comes to sweets. Have almost no willpower. :glare: A -

Hi guys...thanks for feedback. My husband and I are going on vacation - leaving tomorrow - and I will be conscious of my stats, but I know I won't be ready to give 100% until we get home on 5/17/10. But then I will be ready to see a change. I realize I've got the tools now - I've just got to do it. Take care everone...I'll be posting soon.(I'm also taking my laptop...so) Actually, I am becoming addicted to this site...read posts every night and have to make myself get off the laptop and go to sleep. -
ok, here goes. I was banded on 2/26/10. I did a 1 wk liquid pre-op and a 4 wk progressive post-op (liquids, pureed, soft, and regular). From 2/19/10 I have lost 25 lbs - total. Before my 1st fill on 4/5/10, I had gained 3 lbs back, but have lost ihought t. This is really wearing on me. I thought it was not supposed to feel like a diet - but I am conscious every time I eat. I know I have overeat at times, so I deal with the guilt as well as the fear thtat I have stretched my pouch out to the point that it is ineffective. I have felt resistance before so that makes me feel like if I did stretch it out - I didn't stretch it out to the point that it did not function at all. So people:frown::confused:......please tell me how your first few months went cause I am starting to feel defeated.

Other bandsters weight loss schedule
dees-only-girl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 2/26/10 and lost 23 lbs from 2/19/10 (pre-op) thru 3/22/10. Since then - to this day I have lost a total of 3 lbs. Sometimes it is 5 lbs and sometimes it is -1 or 2...so I estimated the loss. It gets really depressing when I read of people having a steady weight loss of 1-3 lbs a week or to lose 100+ lbs in 11-12 months. At this rate it will take me 3 years to reach my goal . What am I doing wrong? Did anyone else have a really slow start and did it change. I have already had a fill and do expect to receive my second one soon. -

How long does Restriction last?
dees-only-girl replied to mysticmind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi guys (not literally)...this is only my 2nd or 3rd response in 2 months because I would like to start a thread - but don't know how...so here is my response to your thoughts on restriction. I was banded on 2/26/10, and as far as I know there was nothing in my band (the nurse stressed to me that the band would remain empty until my first fill to get adjusted to it as it has some restriction without a fill considering the swelling and so forth). At first I did feel some restriction and my eating was limited for approx 3 weeks(and yes I was on liquids then pureed then regular), then as time progressed I began to eat foods that were more normal for me - just not quite the same quanity. I got my first fill on 4/5/10 of 2cc's. At first I did not feel any different, but about a week later my brother took me out to Outback for my birthday(at my request - but he warned me not to try to eat regularly to keep from throwing up my birthday meal) Well...hmmm...there were 4 of us and we had 2 appetizers ( shrooms and bloomin' onion) and I did not eat like I normally would but I did eat a lot (with my brother and husband staring at every bite) then came the salad - and I eat a good 50% of that, but decided to stop so I would be able to eat most of my meal.(ok, ok I know that was stupid). The meal came and I was able to take 3 bites of sweet potato and 2 bites of prime rib and then completely out of the blue with no warning before during that evening (that I noticed)---the most embarrassing thing happened and this was also the 1st time, so I was not prepared. Burning chest pain...felt like something was stuck...and I couldn't drink to wash it thru. I sat there for about 5 - 6 minutes dreading going to restroom until I felt that I had to get up and walk all way on the other side of the building to the restroom to keep from vomitting right there at the table - with everyone in our party staring at me. I did get some relief in the restroom - but it was not my dinner do to speak. It was slimey phlegm stuff...and I don't know what that is or where it came from. that is my experience with restriction. I feel less restriction now - which I expected. We are leaving for a cruise to alaska on 5/8/10 and I have an appointment for a fill on 4/27/10 along with an evaluation for a breast biopsy from the same surgeon. I am very anxious about both, but I am trying to get on with the preparation for the cruise - thinking it will keep me my mind occupied. The mind is very influential on the outcome of things. Has anyone experienced the same thing or close to the same thing regarding restriction. This is mine. -
First fill coming up
dees-only-girl replied to shonna uram's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi...My first fill is Monday, so I would like to know what to expect also. Any hints or things to be aware of would be a great help. I too am having a little trouble using this site...I really enjoy reading but feel like I can't contribute very often or start my own thread to get others comments. Hopefully I will figure it out soon before I lose interest, -
:blink:Yesterday I (day off), slept in till 0900 - got up and piddled around with minor everyday chores - ate brunch around 1230. Had a cheese stick around 1500. Finished work on laptop and went over to sit on the couch and watch tv. Around 1600, I felt something at my band area that scared me a little. It was like a twist or flip (like the feeling that you would get if a 6-7 mo. fetus moved). It did not hurt or even present with any measure of pain or uncomfortability. I was just aware of it and have never experienced it before. I did not get to have supper until between 1930 and 2000. I ate supper without any problem whereas everytime I've eaten since being banded on 2/26/10 - I have felt some restriction. A burning in the esophagus, mild backwash, a feeling of being full with out eating much at all.(and I did push it to the limit) Well, last night I felt no restriction...I kept waiting for the burn or something, but... I do not have any fill in my band. I am scheduled to have my first fill 4/5/10. This afternoon I did have to go into work, and while I had brunch at 1100 - I did feel a little restriction. When I was allowed solid food I feel like I did/do overeat. Has anyone experienced this feeling before? I am going to ask my MD at the appt to get my first fill, but that happened last evening and the office is closed today...so I was wondering what it felt like when your band slips. I have heard that it is painful and makes you throw-up in time. I hate for this to unnerve me, but the unknown can do that.:w00t:Remember...I have no fill, and this is the first time that I have had this feeling and had virtually no pain. Thank you Betsy for giving me your suggestions/advise......

Hey girl...I know you only want people to know that will offer their support to you - me too. I found out more people know about my sx that I let know ( I only let 3 people know and I trust them). Well this was courtesy of my husband. I was upset at first, then I decided I that when someone made a comment I would say "Everyone has got unattractive things about them and I was fortunate to be able to see mine and finally do something about it." I haven't had the opportunity to express that sentiment yet, and I hope I don't get flustered and forget to say it. I got banded on 2/26/10 and I would do it again...so that comment is very true. Good luck and I'm sure you will get more comfortable with your life choices. At least you did make this life-changing decision - only for yourself.

well,hmmm...I was banded on 2/26/10 and started solid food w/out restrictions last tuesday. Even on cream soups, and mushies I felt restriction...so I guess I am confused. Actually today was the first time I ate without much restriction. I was sitting on the couch watching tv - not moving or straining/twisting when I felt something kinda twist/move near/at band placement area. Like the movement of a 6-7 month fetus. No pain - just unnerving. Starving cause my husband was late, supper was at 7pm. I ate 1 cheeseburger w/out bun and about 12 french fries with about 5 broccoli florets - and hardly no restriction at all. A little very minor burning in my esophagus - but not like the singals before...like I swallowed a good sized fireball and it is stuck right between my boobs maybe up about 2". I have not had a fill. I am a little concerned that my band slipped. I have read before that you DO have pain when your band has slipped. So...what do you guys think? I do/did have to chew really, really well and can eat about 1.5 cups.:w00t: -

Wow...sounds like it is me talking. Everything is identical except the answer that your MD office gave you. I did not call my MD office yet, but I did get some benefiber today. No results yet and I have taken it 3 times in diluted apple juice, but.....I will be looking to see if you have found the magic fix, and I will let you know if I do. I do need a fix now, but I would like to know if this is going to be a forever thing to be concerned about.
