For most of my teenage life, and all of my adult life, I've struggled with obesity. I've always thought I was cute, so I really never bothered about trying to change things in my life. But soon, I started to realize the detriment my weight was having on my life. After marrying my husband, 150 lbs quickly crept upon my body! I went from a size 14 to a size 26 in a matter of nearly 2 years!! I was miserable. I could not climb a flight of stairs without huffing and puffing, I couldn't fit into a booth @ a restuarant and I couldn't ride any of the fun rollercoasters @ the amusement park. But the killer came when my OBGYN told me that I PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome). This was a direct correlation between my fatness and infertility. My husband and I tried for several years to get pregnant with no avail. Finally, I found out I was pregnant in August of 2009, the next week I miscarried the baby.I knew then that something needed to be done with my weight. I had tried fad diets like Atkins and Kimkins. I also hired a personal trainer. But nothing seemed to stick. I think after eating so much for so long I was always hungry and always wanted something to munch on. I had a couple of girlfriends that had the lap band surgery...one of them was really losing weight and the other was losing, but not as much. I continued to observe them as well as do plenty of research for myself. After a few months, I talked to my hubby and my family about my decision. My husband was not immediately in agreement, but he understood where I was coming from. He eventually supported me 100%.I found DR. VAN L. WAGNER and the Heart of America Bariatric staff in St. Louis, MO. They helped guide me through all I needed in order to be successful. They made a lifetime commitment to helping me lose weight through frequent follow ups, fill adjustments and food education. They gave me everything I needed to be the best ...the rest is up to me.ON FEB 8, 2010 I HAD THE LAP BAND SURGERY. I feel great and my body has responded to the device very well. I am looking forward to updating my story with my small successes!
