Ayana started following Unsure about the lapband, 2nd opinion, Was this a waste of time? and and 3 others

I was banded in April and all I lost was 5 lbs. My band currently has 6cc (out of 10). At this point I believe the surgery was a waste and would like to have it removed. Since the surgery I have never felt any restriction, I have been able to tolerate everything. Basically if it wasn't for the incision marks on my stomach, you wouldn't even know I had surgery. So I want it out! Any advice on how to proceed.

Hi Everyone, I was banded on 4/21/10. Since then I have lost a total of 3lbs. I am so disappointed. I got my first fill today of 4cc, and guess what? No restriction still! I feel like I went through this whole process for nothing. I guess I just need to get use to the fact that I am always going to be a big girl:frown:.

HELP 4 days post-op and I have questions
Ayana posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi guys, I am four days post-op today and I am HUNGRY!! I drink a Protein shake about every two hours. Last night, I was actually dreaming about food (how sad ). I never had this problem before. I also get up at night to drink a Protein Shake and Water. Is this normal? I'm I supposed to feel this hungry? I have been trying to get my walking in, but I get tired very easily. Is this normal too? I went to the mall yesterday, and I had to walk very slow. By the time I got home, I was out! I am not even breaking a sweat with these little walks (and I do mean little), but they are taking a lot of energy out of me. Oh yeah, one more thing...I have yet to have a bowl movement. My mother is concerned. I know the medication can make you constipated, but I don't even have the urge to go. Should I be worried? I appreciate any help that anyone can give. Thanks!!! -
I am to be banded on April 21st. I am nervous, excited, and petrified all at the same time.

Hi Everyone, I finally got my surgery date, April 21st. I am so nervous, scared, and excited all at the same time. I started this process in mid December and now that I have my date for surgery I am petrified. It has been 20 years since I spent a night in the hospital, and I have never, ever, had any serious medical procedures done before. I mean, I have never even broken a bone in my body. Does anyone have any advise on how I can prepare for surgery? You guys advise in the past has been so great!

I do agree with your comment about exercise. I have a terrible bad habit for laziness, which I strongly believe is the major contributing factor to my weight gain. I will definitely have to break this bad habit of mine, if I want to be able to enjoy a variety of foods, but in smaller portions.

I love how successful you are and that you are still able to enjoy the foods you love, but in moderation. Your results is exactly why I looked into the lapband. I guess the key for me, would be to have my band more on the loose side. I am just like you I hate exercising, but I feel that it is one of my bad habits I need to break to be healthy. Thank you so much for sharing:thumbup:.

Do you feel restriction or satisfied with your band only being 27% full? How much weight have you lost so far, and how long did it take you? Reading through the some of the post and seeing what people can and cannot tolerate, is making not to have my band tightened no more than 50%.

I do want to thank everyone who responded to my post. Your feedback is very helpful. Thank you so much!!!

My family is from Trinidad. So I grew up with eating a lot of rice and other starchy foods. I just can't imagine a meal without rice. Matter of fact it is not a meal if it doesn't have rice. I don't mind cutting down or switching to brown rice when possible, but I need my rice! I also eat a lot of whole-grain cereals and breads. Again, I don't mind reducing my intake, but I don't want to eliminate it from my diet.

Hi All, I am still in the process of deciding if the lap-band is right for me. I have received mixed views from friends and family. Right now I am waiting to get approval from my insurance and a procedure date from my surgeon. I don't know that I can live with the restrictions that come with the lap-band. Any advise?

Hi my name is Ayana and I am on the fence about getting the lap-band done. I have gone through all the medical evaluations and now I am waiting on approval from my insurance and a date from my surgeon. I have mixed feelings from family and friends about getting the procedure done. I have mixed feelings myself. I am concerned if I will be able to live with the food restrictions for the rest of my life.:tongue_smilie:
