  1. I haven't eaten there in at least 10 years, and certainly not since I have been banded. I looked at their online menu, but nothing jumped out at me as particularly healthy.

    Has anyone eaten there lately? Are they good about making your own meal out of things on their menu? Do they tend to allow a person to order off the kids menu with a band?

    Its my sister's b-day dinner, and I don't want to miss the whole thing. They are having cake at the house afterwards, but will skip that.

    The last time I went to RL, they had fresh catch selections, and you can have it prepared grilled. They are usually posted on a chalk board in the dining area. I would stay away from the menu and stick to their fresh catch options. Haddock and trout are favorites of mine. :wink:

    The kiddie menu has mostly fried foods, so probably not a good option.

  2. Well, it has only been three weeks for me, but so far I have lost:

    -my cravings for carbohydrates;

    -my swollen ankles;

    -an inch off of my bra straps;

    -my reluctance to set the goal of running a 5k race

    (I am registered for one in June).

    -the habit of seeing myself in the future as a heavy person.

    Keep up the good work everyone! :wink:

  3. A vacation with my family would be a trigger for me, too--but cruise ships are BIG and the day is long--there is plenty of time to do what you need to do for good health and still meet family demands for your time.

    food is trickier, but really---you have a finite stomach capacity, so food pushers just can't enjoy all that much success with you. "No, sorry---I've eaten; you go ahead and I'll meet you at [the pool][the gym] [port]" is more than enough explanation.

    If you WANT to indulge, you have room to finagle that, too.

    But remember, you're responsible for YOU--and your behavior is not going to change the behavior of others. It may influence it, however; your sister is struggling--what better thing can you do than show her, by example, how well the tool can work? Do what you need to do to be comfortable with yourself---and the rest will take care of itself.

    What she said. :)

  4. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago. I am currently eating soft Proteins like fish and mushing them up. I feel fine so far. I can consume about 4oz of Protein and a 1/2 cut of veggies and I feel full. No hunger pains.

    Today I went to Legal Seafood for lunch and had some grilled trout with sauteed spinach. I ate the fish, but I wasn't able to finish the spinach. I have a 10cc band, and my surgeon put some saline in during surgery, but apparently it was so little that he did not measure it.:)

    Question: Do I need a fill? I think more restriction would be good. I want to keep my food intake to under 1200 calories, but I don't want to get anything stuck, or have pb's.

  5. I am sorry if I sound a little fustrated, but I keep on reading that bandsters need to make proper food choices, exercise, and keep calorie intake low average 1200. If I could do all of these things, then why would I have gone through with the LAP-BAND® surgery. I am also very fustrated because I am 12 days post op, and I am keeping my caloire intake low; it is taking a lot of will power because I have no restriction, but yet I still have not lost any weight since the first week of surgery. I really don't know if this is going to work out for me. This might just be a really expensive failed diet attempt. I have followed doctors orders exactly. I reallly don't know why the scale does not move, I am starving and really disappointed with this decision.

    I have been reading the posts of some of the more experienced bandsters out there, and they all seem to say the same thing. YES, you will have to watch what you eat and stay active, but the band is the tool that actually helps you do those things. There is no way I would make it on 1,200 calories a day indefinitely without the band. I would go bonkers.:)

    I'll be that once you get restriction and start eating solids, you will feel much better.

  6. I like this program. I've looked at it online and it makes a lot of sense. I just had my surgery 3 weeks ago, and my stomach still feels a little tender when I try to run, so I am doing a "pre-c25k," which is walking briskly on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I can't wait to start week 1. I've already registered for a 5K on June 5th, so hopefully I will be ready. :tongue_smilie:

  7. It sounds like the person you were speaking to is ignorant about how the band works. So, you have two options: 1) educate her; or 2) ignore her and keep your eyes on the prize. You are losing this weight for good. It is much healthier to lose slowly than to go up and down, gaining and losing the same weight. (And I think we have all been down that road before).

    Keep doing what you are doing, and keep your head up!

  8. People never cease to amaze me. I have to mentally prepare myself for strange reactions as the weight comes off. It is so important to have people around you who support you. My Mom is amazing, and I have a few close buddies who love me no matter what my weight is. But inevitably, I know some people are going to have to go. So, I'm going to be dropping some extra weight in the form of false friends. :tongue_smilie:

  9. I only weigh myself on Mondays but wasn't expecting much of a loss (if anything) at all this morning because I dropped quite a bit last week, but surprise...lost another 4 lbs!

    I've had real restriction now for 3 weeks and in that time I've lost something on the order of 18-20 pounds! I've forgotten exactly where I was at but I know it was somewhere between 232-235.

    Definitely do not underestimate the value of pushing your doctor for your fills and getting you to restriction so the band can do its job!

    I'm so geeked, I think I'll go out and shovel snow!

    .

    Nice work!!!

  10. I am so happy that I had the surgery. I am almost three weeks out, and right now, I am just grateful not to be on a liquid diet anymore. pureed tuna and scrambled eggs never tasted to good! :redface:

    Regarding exercise, I did a lot of soul searching. I realize now that I am much more consistent about working out if I am doing it in preparation for a specific, concrete goal. I need to feel as though I am "in training" for something. Just doing it to be healthy is not enough to get me off the couch. So, I am currently training for a 5k on June 5th. I am following the c25k (couth to 5k) program. You can find it online.

    Best of luck everybody!
