  1. I told my husband, mother, brother, and sister in law. my mom did tell a couple of my aunts even though I told her not to, so Iam sure bynow most of my family knows, but no one says anything to me. My mom had gastric bypass and is loosign fast, so they are more interested in her :smile2:

My decision not to tell people right away is because I dont want people watching me waiting for me to loose weight. once it happens then I will feel fine with telling them how i did it.

Same situation for me. I haven't told anyone at work. If people don't know, then they are usually too wrapped up with themselves to keep tabs on you. None of my co-workers have noticed I lost weight. And I've lost 80 lbs!! I prefer it that way.

As I lose more weight, I suspect that people will notice and ask me about it. I'll figure out what I'll do then. The semi-acquaintances I have told have been really judgmental and not very supportive, so screw 'em!

  2. I am planning a really fun and active summer. More active than any in recent memory. I just never had the energy before. I am registered for several 5K races; trips to the beach; and biking on local trails.

I am thinking about doing a sprint triathlon in September...trying to work up the nerve to register!

If I do it, then I need to start the training program this summer.

  3. I went to Outback a while ago and had the sirloin steak. It was very unpleasant. I was up all night, even though I took tiny bites and ate slowly. I braise short ribs and chuck steak in the crock pot all the time and have no problems.

I haven't tried bread, but I love corn tortillas with my vegetarian pinto Beans. Haven't tried Pasta yet, either, but I guess I will soon. I'm doing a 5K walk on June 5th, and there is a Pasta dinner the evening before. Hope they have whole wheat spaghetti. I guess I'll eat mostly salad and have a Protein shake when I get home.

  4. I am 5'11.5", and I have a very large frame (broad shoulders, big ribcage, huge hands & feet). I chose 185 as my target because it is at the upper end of a normal BMI for me. But when I was 19, I got down to 220, and I looked and felt healthy. I'll just play it by ear. Whatever weight is sustainable with a healthy diet and an active, physically fit lifestyle is the weight for me. I don't want to be caught up with a specific number.

  5. I am much more aware of my nutritional needs now. I journal and make sure I get enough Protein, at least 60 grams. It becomes a new normal. I can't even imagine eating a 6" sub now. If I tried, it would take me all day! Because of all the Protein I eat and my restriction, I don't feel hungry, which is half the battle. Getting enough Water is still a challenge. I just keep a bottle of Water with me wherever I am and take sips all day.

I am also much more physically active. I jog 3 days a week, and cross train on the elliptical or walk two other days. I've signed up for a few 5K races this summer, which I NEVER would have done without the Lap-Band!!! I also plan to run a marathon before I'm 40. I turn 39 next month. My weight loss so far because the band has given me confidence to set fitness goals, which I've never done before in my life.

    Good luck with your surgery:wink2:

  6. Regular workouts are one secret to success. Highly reccomend you start as soon as possible. Do what you can and increase time/intensity gradually. Also very important is getting enough protien, at least 60 gms a day. Lots of Water helps with hunger and helps your body loose fat. Good luck!

VLP is right. Regular aerobic activity is essential to losing weight. Get lots of lean Protein. My personal "secret" is green leafy veggies like kale and spinach. They are loaded with nutrients. Steer clear of simple carbs like crackers and chips, because they will stall weight loss. I also avoid processed foods, and try to eat "clean" most of the time. Good Luck!

  7. lol, not blind. I just don't see the difference between one rude remark and another. Pure and simple.

I see my choice as the easy way. Sorry. I am not offended by others seeing and saying the same thing. Why would I be? I have about a 30% better chance than my sweet friend who is on the same journey without the band.

Looking for excuses to be offended is the waste of time in my opinion. Putting the focus on the outside world reather than focussing on myself and my journey would be a waste of time, and counterproductive.

Where that is considered rude, is also beyond me. Rude is making comments about others where they cannot defend themselves.

Missy, the only one who is being rude on this thread is you. Evidently, I am not the only one who has come to that conclusion. Unfortunately, you seem to be one of those rare individuals on this site who love to create drama out of nothing. That is very sad.

Regardless, best of luck on your weight loss journey.
