August Rush in bandland!
jamelyn1979 replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hit 43 lbs last week. I have my port replacement surgery scheduled for Jan 6th, so I'm hoping that my weight will continue to lose and that I will not be sick to my stomach anymore!! Everyone is doing so well, I can't believe we are almost at our 5 month post-op mark -
I'm starting the Couch to 5K program this coming week and found some great podcasts to download that break down the times for you. Anyone else try this program to get started with running? I use to ran about 7 years ago then had knee surgery and never picked it up. I'm hoping this will get me started again!

August Rush in bandland!
jamelyn1979 replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So after 7 fills and still feeling very hungry / almost sick at times of being hungry (not increase my food intake even with being hungry) my PA checked my fluid levels. I should have been at 5cc's and when she pulled out the saline, I was just over 1cc. I had to go in for a flouscopy last week and thankfully, they saw no leak in the band. SO, they put in 2.5 cc's last week and went in yesterday for a fluid check. I was just over 1 cc. So, I have a port leak. I can't believe I've lost what I have in my 8/3 surgery without basically any restriction. I barely eat more than 850 calories a day and I exercise a lot. I do get really hungry, but do not snack. I am just glad they figured out I had a leak. I just kept telling myself that I just wasn't at my sweet spot yet and I will get there. SO, waiting for the approval through insurance for the port replacement and they are hoping to get my in the week of New Years. It's a 20-30 minute procedure with local anesthesia. SO ready for the hunger to go away and see how the band is suppose to be working with me and me not fighting for it to work. -
I have had 5 fills since my 8/3 surgery. I have been dealing with "banster hell" since my surgery and I am 4 months post-op. I just assumed that I would have to push through until I get to my sweet spot and would start feeling that full feeling. I have been working my butt off with stopping when I get the slightly satisfied with my food, working out 4x a week and have been pushing through my hungry. When I went in for my 6th fill, I told my PA that I've been getting sick a few times a week because I get so hungry and it comes on so fast. She thought it was strange since I should have had 5cc's in my 10cc band. She thought maybe I had air in my band and pulled out my saline to take a look. I only had 1cc in my band. We'll, that does explain the hungry. I was told I probably have a leak and would need to have a flouroscopy to check it out. I did have that this past week and it doesn't look like my band is causing any issues (THANK GOD) it looks like I might have a slow leak right at the port. While I was still on the xray screen, they put in 2.5cc' in my band. I go back this Thursday to check my levels to see if they have decreased. My doctor did tell me my port is have a large angle and even if I do not have a leak, he was going to replace the port anyway. It would be a 20 minute procedure and I would be in and out. I do feel better knowing that I'm not crazy not understanding why I'm still always hungry and not understanding after 5 fills how much longer I could continue on. I am upset thinking that I have to continue to push until I get to my sweet spot after the port has been replaced. I am so glad I said something because I really have been pushing myself with 800-900 calories a day without any restriction and working out as much as I can. Has anyone else dealt with this? Can you give me some insight on how things are after the port has been replaced?

My port does hurt if I have been running for a while. It takes a bit after my run for the tenderness and uncomfortable feeling to go away. -
I look like a slob!

Congrats! It is a great feeling! I have been there, I still rolled some of my pants at the waist until I go down to the next size. My poor husband can't handle all of the clothes purchases lately! -
total calories eaten daily
jamelyn1979 replied to friendster's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stay around 850-950 depending on the day. I do up it a bit if I ran that day too. -
Hi Kelly! You are doing great Just wanted to touch base and see how everything was going! I saw that you are at your sweet spot, that's awesome! How many cc's are you up too? I go in for my 5th fill and have just under 4.5cc's in my band. I'm hoping to get another 1 cc on Thursday to get to my sweet spot.
Hope all is well!

4 months tomorrow since had the band! Have question...
jamelyn1979 replied to Nicole74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on the 41lbs! That's amazing I had my surgery just a few days after you and I'm down 36lbs total. I know exactly how you feel regarding restriction. I have just under 4.5cc's in my band now and I do not feel any restriction. I actually get sick at times because of my hungry because I am eating small portions and stopping myself (before I even get full) to keep with the weight loss. I'm doing about 3x a week a the gym and 2x at night with DVD's. I am continuing to lose, but am afraid when I go in next week for my fill, they won't give me a larger one. My office is very conservative and have only been giving me .50cc's at a time. GOOD LUCk with your fill and keep it up, you're doing great. -

Regular clothes?

I did not have any problems. The 1st few days, I wore my yoga pants as I was home for a week after surgery. -

I feel like I'm a slower loser than others that had their surgery in August. I just hit my 31lb mark yesterday when I went in. I had my 5th fill and am now at 4.5cc's. I had 1/2 cup of tomato soup yesterday at 12:30 and wasn't hungry again until almost 4:00, so that was a huge jump for me. I'm hoping 1 more fill to put me at 5cc's I will feel good restriction. Kept up the good work everyone! -
i must have lost my mind!

That's great! Congrats I would love something like that offered at my gym! -
I've had 4 fills since my 8/3 surgery (every 2 weeks) and I am still having little to no restriction. At this point, I m eating very small portions and dealing with the hungry and have been doing so since August. Those that were in banster hell, how long did it take you to get to your sweet spot? I have my 5th fill this coming week and I'm hoping I get more than .50cc, which is what I've been getting. I know my PA is going slow to get to where I need to be, but I'm really hungry all the time an I don't know how much longer I can keep this up.

I'm eating everything in sight....
jamelyn1979 replied to spoiltmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sorry you are dealing with this . I'm a in bandster hell and have been for some time now. I stop myself after eating small amounts of food and deal with it until my next meal. I am trying very, very hard not to go off track and to stay focused. And for what it's worth, I've had 4 fills so far and and I'm only up to 4.5 cc's. I know I need more restriction, but I'm following my doctor's guidelines on going slowly. GOOD LUCK, I hope the next fill hits the "sweet spot" for you. -
Not drinking while eating
jamelyn1979 replied to Mommyto1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is pretty tough for me to do. I never drink while I eat, but I find that I do not get enough liquid in on a daily basis because of it. I need to try to get in more water... -
Well, I've only gone out to eat maybe 5x since being banded, which was on Aug. 3rd. I've only PB'd twice, once and home and once at work. Both completely my fault and could have been avoided. I can't image why you can't go out to dinner and not have a problem PBing all the time. I really don't think that's the case. You just have to be careful about chewing and taking very small bites. All the stuff you know you need to do. Anyway, the PB I've experienced has been pressure/pain in the chest and then the food giving me the got to get to the bathroom feeling, however, it wasn't to the point where I had to run. I actually just leaned over the toilet and the slime came right out and the feeling went away.

On the treadmill, I'm walking at a 3.7 and running at a 4.7 - 5.0 depending on how my knee is holding up.

The 1st day was really hard for me as well, by the 3rd day, I felt good doing the week 1's run. I'm technically on week 6 now, but I've been running on my own a lot and I'm running up to 13 minutes without stopping. I'm up to about 2.2 miles of running / interval walking. It's taking me about 30 minutes to do 2.2 miles, so I need to keep pushing myself to get a quicker mile. GOOD LUCK, and keep it up!

August Rush in bandland!
jamelyn1979 replied to AmberK's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is anyone else still experiencing issues with gas? I'm about 2 1/2 months out and the gas pressure/pain that I feel is starting to become almost daily. I literally have to get up and walk around and "toot" as much as possible to help elevate any of the pressure. I've tried the Gas-X strips with no help. I'm wondering if anyone else is going through this and if there is anything that helps? -
So what exactly DOES good restriction feel like?
jamelyn1979 replied to OneYearLater's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a great question - I've had 3 fills so far and I honestly have no idea. I'm continuing to lose weight, however, I'm really strict with how much food I'm taking in and will stop because I know I shouldn't be eating more than what I do. -
