I began by attending a seminar in Las Cruces, NM last year in April. Surgeon was from El Paso, TX, which was closest place to me at the time. I saw my primary care provider for monthly visits to talk about diet, exercise, etc. He put me on a high blood pressure pill to get rid of water I have been retaining and gave me an appetite suppressant.  In October 2009 I moved to Albuquerque and learned that Lovelace Westside Hospital was beginning a lap-band program and Dr. Smith from Dallas/Fort Worth would be the surgeon.  I was finally able to get an appointment and met with Dr. Smith in January 2010. I have already completed the psyc eval, met with the social worker for this program and the nutritionist and I am now awaiting submission/approval to the insurance company. Had hoped to be on the February 25 surgery schedule, but doesn't look like it will happen.  Maybe March.
