    Banded Friday (5/28)!

Congrats!! I'm glad you're doing ok-- the gas will eventually go away. I didn't take the pain pills either (I hate how "fuzzy" they made me feel.) Heal, heal, heal!

The more weight bearing an activity is- typically the more calories we burn. So on the elliptical, there is no impact and the machine supports your weight-- you'll burn less (unless you turn the resistance up a lot). Walking, even in place or back and forth in your living room, is more weight bearing. I know that my BB says I burn a lot more doing something like kickboxing or step than if I indoor cycle. And the machine calorie counters are notoriously way off!
  3. Hey, when it comes to being able to breathe-- I'd suggest giving your surgeon a call. It can't hurt, and they won't mind. It'll be easier to be seen today if they want to check you out than to wait until tomorrow when it's the weekend. So call- for peace of mind.
  4. Congratulations!! That's a lot to lose!

    Banded Yesterday and . . .

Congratulations! I'm glad that you are feeling great-- still- do take it easy (it's easy to overdo when you are feeling good.) Congrats, again!

    My secret fear

My husband generally needs to buy two seats on Southwest when he flies (and if the flight isn't full, his money is refunded.) But, when we fly with family, the three of us take up a row, he puts up the arm and it works well with my son in the middle seat. When he and I fly alone, however, and buy just two seats- it can be incredibly uncomfortable for me to sit next to him for a long flight. His back takes up part of my seat and he has to lean into the aisle, while I have to lean away from him. If it was a stranger sitting next to me I would be unhappy (frankly, I'm unhappy when it's my husband.). So I don't fault Southwest at ALL for having people buy two seats. They're not anti-fat- they just want all paying customers to be comfortable. And when they *do* approach a person (this has happened to my husband), they are generally very kind (and are generally very embarassed) when they ask if someone will fit...

    What's the drinking rule anyway?

I think it's really personal. What matters is how long you stay satisfied between meals. If you can drink 15 or 20 min after a meal, and not get hungry before the next meal, then great. If you find you're getting hungry earlier... wait an hour before drinking after the next meal and see how it goes. Or try 90 minutes.
  8. I assume, given the nature of your trip, that you are already somewhat active. You will likely be feeling GREAT 6 week post op! Your trip sounds fantastic-- enjoy it, and don't worry! You should even be on solid foods by then!
  9. I got rid of my antidepressant meds and all the side effects from that.
  10. Not stupid at all!!!! I believe in celebrating every single milestone, big or small! Way to go!
  11. I'm 5'5", and my doctor's goal for me is 156- which is a BMI of 26. I decided that I personally want to get to at least a BMI of 25 (top of healthy range). That's 150- but my super-secret stealth goal is 140!

I don't see why you couldn't add your multivitamin as a custom food and put it in as "calories consumed." I know it tracks macronutrients, but does it track micronutrients, like vits and mins? ETA: when you do custom foods, it doesn't ask for all the nutrients that would be listed on a vitamin... mostly the cals, fats, etc + calcium. So I guess my idea wouldn't work after all....

    Chest Pains??

I'm sorry you're in pain!! I'm not sure what the problem is, but I think checking it out with your doctor is the right thing to do. Good luck! I hope this resolves quickly for you!

    Fill Disaster

Oh, no! I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you. Hopefully you'll be back to your proper restriction next month. This is just one of those "ups and downs" of banded life, I guess. On another note: why do you want your liquid to gurgle going down (or feel it)? It's my understanding that the band shouldn't be so tight as to restrict liquid in any way, and it sounds like those with a "gurgle" are almost too tight. I wouldn't base proper restriction on any feeling to do with liquids passing through your pouch. Just whether you can eat a small plate and feel satisfied, not be hungry in between meals and lose weight at an appropriate pace. But clearly, just my opinion.

    Hitting Goals! Yeah!!!!!

That's awesome! (Both of you)! I just absolutely love my lap band. I'm so glad that you have cheerleaders-- we all need them!!

Just bought a pedometer - steps question

I also average 12-14,000 steps per day, but I walk every day, and work at a gym (and don't have a desk job.) I think most Americans get 4-6,000 steps per day. The "healthy" goal is 10K. My recommendation is that you wear your pedometer for a week... figure out how many steps you take normally, and then set some goals for yourself. A lot of people are low on the weekend-- set a goal to increase your weekend step total to equal your week day total. Or try to increase your steps by 1,000 steps a day next week. Little things like that. Add in a ten min walk in the am, then one in the pm another week. Etc.

Another thing that makes a difference is your size. People who are bigger burn more calories, people who are smaller burn fewer calories.

    I've got a date.....

Congratulations!!! And it's so soon! happy dance!
  19. This morning after I got up and piddled around for a while, washing up and getting dressed, I noticed that my wedding ring was gone!! It has been getting loose for some time now, but must have come off either in my sleep, or (uh-oh) while I was washing my face, etc. I hope I didn't flush it down the toilet! It's not *that* big of a deal- it was just an inexpensive band (in fact one that would have cost more to resize than to replace). So replace it is! (My engagement ring is safely in my jewelry box.) Hubby was quite understanding about it!

    Food Glorious Food

Ah, yes-- I remember how much I was looking forward to eating some cottage cheese during the last few days of my liquid phase. Anything that I could use a spoon with made me happy! It's so funny....

    Too sweet? Seriously.....???

I love that! I have been noticing this for a while-- when I get off the sugar and simple carbs, sweet stuff ( and most junk food) just don't taste good anymore. Hooray!! That makes it a LOT easier to stay away from!

    My weight loss has slowed:(

Wow! Look how great you've done-- you're almost to your goal! With results like you've got-- who cares what they think!!
  23. I can't *believe* that I'm halfway to my weight loss goal only 2 1/2 months out from surgery!!! To Celebrate I got a mani/pedi and a new pair of cute-as-hell sandals!! :w00t:

    Argh...what to do!!

Awwww... she's probably just worried, that's all. Especially now that it's so close. Tell her you love you, and you know she's worried, and that you will be FINE- and, in fact, better than ever. And she's right-- you will have to deal with the emotional eating stuff (or boredom), because the band doesn't keep you from eating out of boredom. (though it will limit how much.) Hugs!!
