Congratulations! I hope you have a speedy approval! -
Good luck! I hope you have a quick and pain-free recovery!! My surgery is tomorrow-- so I'll see you on the Post-op side! :smile2:

Congratulations! Sounds like it went well for you. I have my surgery tomorrow. How'd your follow up appointment go? Everything still good?

I can't believe I'll have my surgery on Friday!! Tomorrow I'm gonna get my house straightened up and shop for last minute "stuff" that I might need. I don't feel nervous right now- more excited than anything else. I just hope I don't feel too badly (pain) afterwards. I tend to deal with pain, etc fairly well, so I'm hopeful! Jen

Yay! Mine was today, too, and was just fine. She has her own separate practice, but sees potential band patients at the surgeon's office, which means great communication between psychologist and surgeon, and convenience for me!

Coach to 5k (who wants to run?)
jensmallwood replied to happiness1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love the C25K program! I was running before when I lost a ton of weight (~100 pounds)-- I got all the way up to half marathon distance, tried a marathon and hurt myself. But I got almost down to my goal weight marathon training, before the injury happened. Of course when I stopped running, much of the weight came back on. I get my band on Friday-- when I'm healed enough, I'm lacing up my running shoes! Maybe I'll just stick with the 5-10Ks from now on! :tongue_smilie: -

I don't understand!!!

Check out Gina Kolata's book, Rethinking Thin for a (IMO) really interesting look at the "science" behind weight loss and dieting. It's subtitled "The new Science of Weight Loss- and the Myths and Realities of Dieting." I thought it was quite well written. -
Success is how you see it!

Great story! Like you, swim team kept me under 200 in college... since then I have to literally train for marathons in order to lose weight through exercise (even when eating well.) I'm hoping my band will give me the edge to do what you did!! -

Hi, everyone-- I'm Jen. I'm currently scheduled for lap-band surgery on 2/26. I can't wait!! I was thrilled to discover this forum, and have been reading for a few days. I've been struggling with weight since I was 6-years-old, and have lost a LOT of weight in the past. Most recently, a more than 100 pound loss (nearly down to a "normal" weight) through diet and exercise. In fact, I was so successful that I decided to go back to school and get a degree in exercise science so I could help others do what I thought I had successfully done. I even participated in marathons and triathlons. I became a group exercise and pilates instructor at my local gym. Imagine my surprise when I was STILL struggling to maintain! I thought I'd figured it all out. After I'd regained about 50 pounds I finally visited my local bariatric surgeon and discussed getting a lap-band. My BMI is currently about 37, and my blood pressure is rising. Anyway, I'm confident that I can "work" the band and that it is the right supplement to my exercise routine (which, unfortunately, has fallen off as I've gained weight and been too embarassed to teach some of my classes.) I'm a little nervous about the immediate recovery part after the surgery, but I know I'll get through it. Thanks! Jen
