Driving After Surgery
Texarkolina replied to Texarkolina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is July 23rd. My daughter goes to daycare 5 blocks away from my house. I am wondering how soon I will be able to take her myself. I guess I could get her to get in the stroller and walk her there, but I am kinda afraid of getting halfway and not being able to continue. I have a sitter lined up, but it gets so expensive....... -

Finished Nut Class, Now Hubby Having Second Thoughts =(
Texarkolina replied to babyblues4all2c's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Statistically, obese people earn less throughout their lifetime than normal weight people. We pay more for food, clothing, life insurance, health care, and transportation. Being big costs way more than your copay. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/02/business/02money.html?pagewanted=all -
BOOM snap pow crackly chrunk slam......what you year ladies and gentlemen is the sound of me caving in and cheating on my pre-op diet. The Naysayers.....do It Naturally! How To Handle Them.
Texarkolina replied to SensationallySassyT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand that the naysayers may really think they are being helpful. What I would like to say is, "oh crap! Eat less and exercise more? WTH didn't I think of that?" ....and go from there with some sarcastic remarks about them being on the verge of a great discovery that could change mankind forever and having the means to end obesity once and for all with this amazing knowledge. But I don't. What I often say is, "If I could do it on my own I would have done it by now." That one shuts them up pretty fast. I have also prefaced my sharing about the surgery with, "I am telling you not because I want your approval or blessing, but because you are important to me and I would like your support with this very important decision I have made." That one is for family and good friends that will be supportive but concerned for my safety. -
That is something that I have been thinking for a while. Mention weight loss surgery and everyone has something to say....

Grrrrr Stalled For 3 Weeks, It Broke--But I Was Bad
Texarkolina replied to stacey131's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think the key is to feel free to do something like 6 Oreos once in a great while then get right back on track. It isn't the one cheat that hurts you--it is the ones that follow. Besides.....everyone has a way to break a stall....some exercise more, some eat less....Before sleeve dieting strategy for me to break a stall was to sleep 10 hours a day for a couple of days and have one really bad for you meal. Worked every time. -
Crazy Vsg Questions
Texarkolina replied to DeterminedGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can lose the weight on my own. I know that I can start on a very low calorie diet and become a gym rat and eventually lose the weight. How do I know? Because I have done it many times. However, I also know, without doubt, that I will also eventually gain each and every pound back and they are likely to bring their nasty little friends. How do I know this? Because I have done it many times. I know the same behaviors and eating patterns will result in weight loss with or without the sleeve. What I am looking for is something permanent that I can keep with me that will help me keep weight off. I do not feel like I have failed but rather like I have taken control. -
Thanks for all the support and tips everyone. One week to go until I will have tool to help me!

I am on day 7 of my pre-op diet. I woke up with the thought, "It's Sunday. I want to go out to eat." Then I spent the next 30 minutes looking online about how a cheat in the middle of a VLCD would affect weight loss. I have played with the different options for restaurant meals in my mind and said to myself, "it's now or not again for a few months." Truth be told, I am not physically hungry. I just WANT to eat. So THIS is Head Hunger!

Last Meal During Optifast?
Texarkolina replied to pdog's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I should tell you not to and it is a bad idea---it will make the whole 2 weeks harder.....but honestly, I am in the middle of my 2 week pre-op and I may eat something before surgery. Realize that if you do, however, you will pay for it.....it will make it harder to get back on track. Good luck whatever you decide. -

Business Trip 2 Weeks Post-Op
Texarkolina replied to Half~of~Bri's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been sleeved yet, but I am in the same situation of needing to travel for work pretty soon after surgery. My surgeon said I should not get on a plane for 6 weeks if at all possible. Driving is ok but only if I stop every hour. You may want to ask your surgeon's office and see what they advise. -
Day one for your brand new baby tiny little stomach--day one of a better, healthier life for you. Congrats.

Nervous About Committing To The Sleeve. Waiting For Insurance Approval.
Texarkolina replied to Chills562's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
If I may ask, what size are your sisters? Realize that it is really hard for siblings to process a major life change for each other. I have a sister that is around 190 or less--with a great shape so she looks pretty good at 190. I told her I was having the surgery and she was happy for me. We are really really honest with each other--after expressing her support she also said, "And I hope you will give me time to adjust if I have trouble dealing with you being small and maybe even smaller than me." See,I have always been the fat one and she has always been the pretty one. I am so lucky to have her be able to be honest about what she is feeling. She has always wanted good things for me, and now is no different, but she recognizes that this may change things and there will be an adjustment. I know without a doubt that I can lose this weight on my own--I've done it before--and I also know without a doubt that as soon as I have a major life change/stressor I will start gaining and wind up right back where I am now--plus. The deciding factor for me was that I am ready for the permanence of the sleeve. Took a while to get there. -
Celebrate! You deserve a bubble bath!
