I had my surgery 10/23 and I'm loving life more and more everyday! I feel this is a mind set you have to take on, giving up the bad foods, no pop and etc... I use to think I could never give this stuff up, but I did and I'm not missing anything - it's been 9 weeks without pop and junk food and I'm fine. Do I "taste" things here and there, of course, but for the most part it's a mind over matter thing. I could go on and on about this surgery. No complications for me at all, not even gas pains. I was on pain meds while in the hospital and nothing after that (I have 4 kids to tend too as well). My first fill was 11/21 (1cc) and everything is going great! My energy level is 10xs what it use to be and eating smaller portions doesn't bother me. I do not have 1 regret - well I do, I sure have done this a long time ago:nervous Good Luck!

I was banded on 10/23 and without any problems. Life is good, it's Sunday and our family is looking forward to the Holidays as am I. Halloween in right around the corner and the children are so excited. I started the shakes 3 1/2 weeks before surgery at the heaviest weight ever 301....wow, I can't even believe that is possible and now I am 281. I am so proud of myself, but more important I can't wait until next summer when I hope to be at least 70-80 pounds lighter.

:clap2: I was banded on 10/23 and feel great. I still have pains when trying to get comfortable for bed, but other than that, no gas pains. I was in the hospital overnight and then returned home. Thursday - 3 days after surgery I was hanging out with my children and going places. I am on liquids, however have been a thicker soup than Chicken Noodle. I was so worried going into surgery, but once I was out and started to recover it was fine. Monday and Tuesday I kept saying what was I thinking as those days were painful, but once I arrived home and rested I was fine. I thought for sure I would have horrible gas pains, but I haven't experienced that. Hope everyone is well.

My surgery date is quickly approaching, 10/23, and met with my doctor yesterday. We watched the video and went over any questions. My dr. then told me I have a hiatal hernia that will have to be removed as well. I was wondering if anyone else had this removed while being banded? If so, does it affect your recovery time, I forgot to ask that?? At least my heartburn should fade away with this being removed.

I have 4 days until surgery, I'm so excited and yet very nervous! I have a heatial herna that will also have to be removed, scary, ugh! I will get through this with my Faith and Family!

I don't have the answer for you, however I can give the name of my doctor. Dr. Zoe Deol in Sterling Heights (she's a Beaumont Dr.) - I will be banded 10/23, you could call her office and check that out.

Good Luck to everyone who is being banded this week!! I have 6 more days....:clap2:

ThreeBeauties - my diet is up to 8 items a day on the OptiFast Program. I could pick from Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry shakes; Oats and Honey, Peanut Butter or Chocolate bars; and tomato or chicken noodle soups. My plan is 5 shakes a day, the chocolate and vanilla are really good. Then I eat 3 bars a day - prefer Peanut Butter and Chocolate. The Oats and honey taste like vitamins - just my opinion. I didn't order the soup. Then I can have Ice Tea (decaf) with Sweet and Low and water is about it. I usually stick to water - I don't want to have the caffeine withdrawals. I have 4 weeks of this - I see my surgeon on Wednesday for my last appt. until surgery and I am going to inquiry why my diet seems so extreme vs. others - just curious at this point.

Joy, Joy - I thought I would never make it through the last 3 weeks. I am entering the 4th and final week of the shakes and it gets better. I will be honest with you, the headaches are horrible and a few times I did cheat. It wasn't anything major, but I cheated. Popcorn, apple or some cider were the things I had, but I had to what I had to get through it. That was the first week, now it's fine not a problem. Good luck and it will get better.

The doctor told me that they have to lift the liver in order to place the port and the liver is the heaviest organ in our bodies. The instruments that are used are small due to the small incisions so they need our livers to weigh less. Does that help? Once that was explained to me I understood the reason for the diet, however what I don't understand is why 4 weeks of shakes for myself and others are only on shakes for 2 weeks or less?? Different doctors I assume have different ways of doing things. Oh, well at this point I'm on the home strech - 10 more days!!:clap2:

I will be banded on 10/23 and based on my B.M.I. which is 50 I was instructed to join the Optifast plan. I can have up to 8 items a day, you can choose from bars, Soups or shakes. I chose 5 shakes and 3 bars a day. The cost is about $300 for every 2 weeks - expensive!! I have 11 days to go and it's ok, however not eating any food for 4 weeks has been hard. Especially when I sit down with the family at dinner time, everything looks so good. :hungry: I think as I have been reading different post on this site that all doctors are different. Good Luck! :clap2:

I was just looking at clothing magazine that weren't Lane Bryant or Avenue and imagining all the shopping I was going to do when I lose this weight. Boots - I can't to own a pair. Living in MI everyone wears them to work, tall, black real leather ones. I can't wait. Coat - I own alot of coats, but I can't to purchase a ski type coat, probably not until next winter, but I can't wait.

Hey ThreeBeauties, My husband thinks I'm crazy for telling everyone that I will have surgery 10/23, however I did that to give myself a "catch all" if you will. I wanted people to know about the surgery so I would follow through with it. Before I would diet, not tell anyone so if I didn't follow through no one knew that I failed. :faint: This time I am telling everyone. The children know (11,9,9 and 5) the youngest doesn't understand but my older do. I explained that I wanted to ride a bike again and run with them. I would love to play soccer with my son, however keeping up with them is next to impossible. Next year I will be running, playing sports and riding roller coasters again, I'm so excited. Other people - I told other people, co-workers, soccer mom's, church people and family. I want everyone to know that I have my mind set and I am going to do this no matter what other people think. I have explained to them that the weight will not fall off as if I was having Gastric Bypass, then they tell me they are glad to hear I chose the LapBand vs. Gastric. You may be surprised to other's reactions. Everyone has been so supportive. I'm sure some people have their own thoughts about the surgery and talk about me, but I don't care anymore. I'm doing this for me and my family. I hope I helped. :nervous This was how I chose to deal with it. Good Luck! Let me know how things are going for you.

My doctor has me on Opti Fast shakes and bars for 4 weeks. The cost was almost $600 for the weeks! I miss eating, but it's only 4 weeks..... :clap2: I am scheduled for surgery 10.23 - 3 weeks from today and I am so excited. I started the shakes last Wednesday and it has been hard. Is anyone else on shakes yet? If so, how is it going? I'm emtional, which usually I'm a rock and not eating has it's up's and down's. Any feed back would be great!!

:clap2: My Surgery date is set for October 23 and I can't wait. I am a mother of 4, work full time and this Opti-fast diet is for the birds. It's driving me crazy, but I did this to myself and a month of shakes isn't too bad to become healthy again!! Glad to hear there are other people having surgery at the same time. Keep in touch, I just joined this today and it appears to be a great support system.

I have 24 days until Surgery - Lap band and I can't wait. I am excited, fearful and worried - all those emotions and no food. I'm going crazy at times. My family keeps me sane.
