What is your goal weight for your height?
Umabdullah replied to gingerjane's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm between 5'3" and 5'4" and I set my ultimate goal at 140 lbs though my wii fit says I should be in the low 130's. For now though I'd just be happy to get below 200 and then around 160 or 170. -
My friend's surgeon agreed to do my fills and he's charging less than the fills centers and another dr wanted to charge me for the first visit. I have to pay $150 for each visit/adjustment and the fill center wanted to charge me $350 for the first visit and $160 for every visit/adjustment after that. Bariatric Surgery Treatment | Gastric bypass surgery | Lap Band Surgery Houston, Texas | Sleeve Gastrectomy Texas I got 1 cc and he made me drink a bottle of Water before I left to make sure it wasn't too tight. After about 4 sips I had to go throw that water up and he had to take half my fill back out again so I have only .5 cc's in right now. I was really adamant before I got there that I was gonna push for at least 3 cc's to start with and thought it was pretty funny that 1 cc was too tight LOL I think I've been able to eat so much because I've been drinking with my meals and I thought the only reason why you're not supposed to is because it might be painful BUT he told me today that drinking with meals actually makes the food mushy so it doesn't stay in the little pouch as long and negates the purpose of the band. I'm glad to know that and I'll stop drinking with meals now and hopefully get back to losing weight!

I was banded on March 19 of this year and have lost about 25 lbs so far but I am eating way too much lately. I have NO fill and desperately need one now. However, I can't afford to spend a lot of money and I don't have insurance, and since I had surgery in Mexico, I don't have a surgeon here to do my fill. I have a Fill Center of the USA here but the only price listed on their website is an $85 office visit and it doesn't mention how much an adjustment is. Can anyone please tell me what doctors you have used recently in Houston for a fill and what their current pricing looks like? Also, I have a 10cc band... what's a good starting point for a first fill considering I can't really afford to keep going back and forth getting fills all the time? (I'm starting to think I should have gotten the verticle sleeve instead but oh well). Thanks!

Muslims Banded in Mexico?
Umabdullah replied to Umabdullah's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Wa alaikum salaam Sandy, I would love if you could feel the place out inshallah. If you don't mind my asking, which city are you going to and which surgeon are you using? -
Hi! I was wondering if there are any Muslims (especially women) who have had their wls in Mexico? I'm expecting to go down there next month but I'm just trying to find out how other Muslims have been recieved in Mexico. Did you experience any type of prejudice while there? Were they accomodating about your privacy (modesty/hijab) and diet? Thanks!

Assalaamu alaikum everyone, I am an American Muslim as well Alhamdulillah. I haven't been banded yet but I'm going to make an appt right after I get my tax refund this month inshallah. I'm still trying to decide on my Dr. but so far I think I'm going with Dr. Almanza in Mexico. I have thought a lot about what it would be like to fast during Ramadhan with the band but I like one of the other sister's idea of getting an unfill just before Ramadhan to help. I'd like to know how that turned out if anyone has tried that. That's deff a perk of the band IMHO, that it can be adjusted to fit with ur life. My other concern as a Muslimah is how much I will have to bare for the operation.... For any of you who wear hijab, how did you deal with that and were your surgeons accomodating about your privacy and such? My doctors in the US are usually understanding of my modesty concerns but I'm not sure how they view Muslims in Mexico so I'm a little scared that they won't care. I know I can't go into the surgery fully clothed LOL I'm just curious if they let you only uncover as much as is necessary or if I'll be laying in a hallway somewhere waiting for surgery in nothing but a gown  P.S. How many Muslims have to be on this forum for us to get our own section like the Jews, Christians and Latter Day Saints?
