help with sleeping after Surgery
mjbf replied to lakerdodgerchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WoW! I wish I had known this before my surgery 8 mos. ago! Sleeping was AWFUL! I would sit on edge of bed & just fall over on my side & wherever I landed was where I stayed for the rest of the night! Glad you're passing this on! -
lap band revision after slippage
mjbf replied to tyler13's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Oh man! I was given liquid oxycodone & I had to get off of it within 24 hrs.! I couldn't even think or make sense of anything! It was awful! I was put on liquid tylenol, which did NOTHING, so for days I was in pretty bad pain! Maybe your doc can find something you can take that will help you! Good luck! -
throwing up in public
mjbf replied to guadalajaralap's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am very embarassed to tell this. About 2 mos. after I was banded, I DID throw up at the table at Red Lobster & I was mortified! I could NOT control it at all! It just kept coming & coming! I was starving & ate shrimp cocktail too fast & without chewing enough! From then on, I carry a "sick bag" which I get online at www.sicksaver.com. These have saved me many times--at restaurants , in the car, etc. They are well worth it & now I would not EVER be without them! I still do, however, scope out the restroom & will sometime even ask to be seated close by! It is all an ongoing learning experience! Good Luck! -
When eating out, I usually get the "veggie plate"--veggies are usually soft and go down easily. Also, I order fish (but not fried)--almost all restaurants have fish on their menu! Sometimes I find myself even craving it! Great protein source!

OTC Cold or Allergy Medication
mjbf replied to momofwaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take Zyrtek daily. I take the gel form--they are very small and easy to swallow. -
Is it essential to take Vitamins?
mjbf replied to Rose7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YES! YES! TAKE VITAMINS! I didn't take any vitamins for 5 mos. after I was banded and my hair started to slowly fall out! I started taking them and within 2 wks. my hair stopped coming out! I also added extra iron. -
I have had the same problem--my surgeon suggested I take OTC MUCINEX. I take one every morning and it has seemed to help!

Dining Out Post Surgery
mjbf replied to SoCalWoman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When dining out, I stick with fish AND I always make sure to have a table close to the "facilities"! I have had several "stuck" episodes & have been SO glad to have been close! -
That happened to me also! I was very hungry and ate too fast and didn't chew well enough. It was AWFUL! Now I don't allow myself to get that hungry! I also carry "barf bags" in my car and purse! Eek!

My experience was the same as TODD NYG's. Just went away on its own after about 5 days--but my upper chest and shoulders really hurt! Good luck with everything!
-
I CANNOT eat any kind of bread at all! I have tried and tried but can't--it's the only thing I really cannot get down! Good luck!
-
I had to change surgeons because I have a 14cc band and my surgeon wanted to only put in 1 cc at a time EVERY MONTH!!! I changed surgeons to one that got me up to 8.5 cc's on the second fill!!! I would have NEVER lost weight had I not changed! Think about it and do what you have to do! Good Luck!

Is it OK for us to eat coconut? I've heard pros and cons.

ate to fast and got stuck
mjbf replied to Countrychic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I have gotten stuck, I'm the same as you--I don't eat for about 24 hrs.--just protein shakes! I just don't feel up to par--no pain, just an "ucky" feeling. The funny thing is, I'm not hungry either! -
The iron in your multi-vitamin is not enough! There is a liquid iron available--many places carry it. Check it out! It will at help the bruising I think! Good luck!

Dry Heaves, how bad are they
mjbf replied to bigbirney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, Mucinex WILL help! I take one every night--it goes down OK with no problems! I can tell when I don't take it too! Try it! Good Luck! -
I was taking Glucophage for my diabetes. After surgery, my doctor prescribed it in the liquid form--doesn't taste too good, but it does the trick. My Albertson's pharmacy didn't usually carry this, but they were able to get it for me and now they keep it on hand for me. Might work for you!

Favorite Restaurant Foods??
mjbf replied to Kris110385's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whenever we go out to eat, I always order fish. I don't have any problems with it at all! Nowdays almost every restaurant offers fish in some form or another. -
Could you cut the pills into thirds or fourths? That's what I do with mine--I got a "pill cutter" and cut them into small sizes and I could get them down with water OK. I wait a few minutes between each one--takes a while! Good Luck!

wierd stomach sounds?
mjbf replied to dontgoggilme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My stomach starts the rumbling and gurgling only at night! And it's LOUD! It is so wierd! I am 10 weeks post-op. Glad to know I'm not the only one! -
What is RDT51 and where do you get it?
-
I have been having the same thing, except mine are almost always by my ankle! I never had these before I was banded! I researched this on the Internet and found it to be a mostly MAGNESIUM defeciency! I just started taking supplements--250 mg. at night. The foods rich in magnesium are: any type of nuts, salmon, halibut, spinach, broccoli, and many more. My surgeon agreed with me. Just wanted to share this info. with you! Good luck!

Stuck, did someone say STUCKED!
mjbf replied to LollyMoe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take a daily MUCINEX to help with the mucus. It does help! -
About the blood clot thing--that's why they tell you to get up and WALK, WALK, WALK! You should start AS SOON AS YOU GET HOME FROM SURGERY!! They told me to get up and walk 25-30 steps EVERY 30 MINUTES!!! That scared me enough to do it--plus it helps with recevery time too! I also got a blood thinner injection right before surgery to prevent clots.
