Well the water discussion is interesting. My doctor says to not drink 1/2 before a meal and a 1/2 after a meal. In the book, Lapband for Life he says to wait 1/2 to 1 hour. I guess that experimenting to see if it affects your hunger might be worthwhile. No way would I wait 2 hours.

Sandranoelle: I got to the hungry all the time point at Thanksgiving. I had lost fluid in my band and had good reason to be hungry. You'll feel better after you have a fill. Good for you that you're exercising. This is a busy and stressful time just get through it. You're really doing awesome. Cut yourself and break and try and make good choices.

Mom- Down 5 pounds! Three pounds to "onderland!" Tami- I hate that golf ball feeling, too. Hope it gets better soon.
-
Kat: We had a bowflex machine that someone let us use until they moved into a bigger space. It was great. They are not hard to use and the instruction video and book that comes with it are very user friendly. I would highly recommend it. Wish I still had one!

Tami- You are really doing well on your weight loss. I don't know what I can do to speed things up, but I'm feeling like I better figure it out. The Christmas crunch is getting to me, with 5 children things get crazy. I need to stop trying to make everything perfect, especially for my adult children. I'm trying to learn to put myself first, but it really is hard. If I didn't have this band, I'd probably be gaining weight with all the stress I've put myself under. I'll try and be thankful for what I have lost. (I just mailed my Christmas cards this morning.)
-
Tami: I'm not sure what you should do, but I think you could be having a little reaction from the fill itself. You're probably a little swollen. I feel swollen for a few days after my fill and then it goes away. I guess you should call your doctor. Good luck!
-
Tami- I agree with you. Let me know how its working.
-
I'm sure that part of your pain is complicated because of Christmas. You probably have a lot to do and food is everywhere. The first 2 weeks after my surgery, I just had to physically leave the kitchen when others where eating. My mom came to help and of course she cooked all my favorites for my family. It was hard. It's an emotional time. Don't let anyone tell you that you're not hungry. You are. Physically and emotionally you are hungry. It does get easier like everyone on this thread has said. They're not lying. It will get better! The first month is the hardest. Lots of adjustments, but you can do it. Keep logging onto LBT and feel of the support! Good luck December bandsters!

Mom- Get a fill. There's no need to suffer! You're hungry for a reason (or two). Don't stress. You can do it!

Down 3 pounds. Yea!

Tami: I totally agree with you. I have lost weight (it seems at a snails pace), but it has been a struggle becuase I am hungry alot. Which feels like any other diet to me. My doctor agreed with me at my last fill appointment and said that I shouldn't be feeling hungry. He said that if the fill didn't help with my hunger that I could have another fill. Don't some doctors believe that you can have self-control even if your band isn't restricted!?
-
Telly: I checked out your journal. Wow! Your are a worker bee! I understand your need for extra calories with all your exercise, but how do you eat that much with a band?
-
Flabuless: Thanks for the input! I may need a fill!
-
LIsa: Great information! Thanks! I love learning new things.
-
MimIn: I have heard of a loss of restriction. I experienced it somewhat. My doctor said that I had lost some of the fluid in my band. How? I don't know. I think that bands are a little fickle. Also, I wonder if our stomach shrinks as we lose weight? Anyway, hopefully this fill helps you out!
-
ItsGottaGo: I hope you are tight (in a good way), but I'm going to pass on what my doctor has me do after a fill. The first day is all liquid, the second is blender food, the third day is soft food and the fourth is back to regular diet with the caveat that if anything has a hard time going down, to go back to stage before. Sounds like you have so swelling Or tightness and maybe you could use this information. Good luck!

Tami: You are a sweet heart! Thanks for finding that link for me. I was going to google MGB and see what I could find out. I guess I'm still coming to terms with everything. I hope that long term, if we follow our drs instructions we'll be healthy, slim and in shape. Here's to success! Thanks, again.

I am feeling a little off balance today. Someone sent me a website about the mini-gastric bypass. On the website, which was sponsored by a doctor that does mini-gastric bypass, there was a whole section on the lapband. He said that a lot of doctors in Europe have stopped doing the LB becuase of poor results and complications after the first few years. He stated that the US is 10 years behind Europe since they were so late in getting the LB approved. He removes a lot of lapbands and then does the MGB on them. The MGB takes about an hour and supposedly is very safe and reversal. Has anyone heard of this? I just feel like crying, because even though I am doing relatively well so far, I can see that there are definite disadvantages, like having to get fills (maintance) and PBing, sliming, etc. This was such a hard decision and now to find out that there might be a better procedure out there is very frustrating. I guess that I should stop worrying about what could have been and deal with what is. I always knew that something better would come a long in the future, but I didn't think there was anything better out there now. Well, I'm not trying to depress anyone else, I just feel the need for some support, and my DH is probably getting a little tired of this subject.

Wow CoryW way to go! Maybe you should give us a few pointers on what you are doing, cause you are doing something right! Congratulations!
-
Tami: Thanks for link. It helps a little. I guess I will just go with flow until I'm feeling too hungry or out of control or gaining weight! Reporting a loss of 3 pounds last week. Yeah!

I just had my second fill Tues. I have only been back to eating regular foods for a few days. I keep waiting to feel full. I haven't yet. BUT, tonight while eating some chicken, I guess I had my first experience with PBing. I felt like a golf ball was caught in my chest.:angry It was extemely painful. I drank a little water and burped a lot. If I could have, I would have thrown up. I understand that chicken can be difficult, though in the 10 weeks of band life I hadn't experienced it. I guess the fill has given me some restriciton that I wasn't aware of. My question is, does this mean I shouldn't get another fill for a while? I keep looking for some kind of feeling of fulness when I eat. Instead, I quit after about 3/4 cup of food. I'm trying to follow my doctors instructions. I would really like to experience a feeling of being satisfied when I eat. Is the feeling of fulness different and I'm just not reading the signals? I certainly don't want to PB again. All advice would be appreciated.:phanvan

Well, I got my heart fixed up. Next Friday I see the cardiologist again and hopefully will get the go ahead for more serious exercise. He already told me that I won't be able to do heavy weights or isometric exercise (affects the heart valve), but I will be able to do light weights (so I guess more repetitions?) and aerobic exercise (I just have to keep my heart rate below 150). Yesterday I walked 3 miles, it took an hour and I was very tired but I did it! I am determined to be a star. Now if my body would only cooperate with my mind!

BJean: When my doc does a fill, he takes out all the fluid in the band and measures it and then puts it back with the added amount of the fill. I'm sure that this is standard procedure. When I went in for my 2nd fill, my doc said that it was no wonder that I was hungry because some of the fluid had leaked out of my band. (I'm not sure how). Anyway, I'm not feeling a lot of difference with the 2nd fill, but maybe a little difference. I think that we all get discouraged. It would be easy to fall back into old habits, but we just have to keeping working at it!

MLUNCEF: It's frustrating to know what to do with fills. You have lost 3.57 pounds a week which is pretty good. I would go by your hunger level and how hard it is to stay on the program. If you are constantly struggling to eat a small amount of food than I would get another fill. This is a slow process. I was just at my doc's yesterday and got my 2nd fill of .5 cc. I told him how hungry I had been and how I was quickly using up all my self control. He told me that it shouldn't be that hard and if this fill doesn't help, to come back in 2 weeks for another one. He's not going to make me wait or wait until my weight goes up. That was very reassuring, finally I'm going to get some support. Good luck! Keep us posted.
