BJean: I went to the peak nutrition website and wondered which product you use? Have you tried their whole diet line? -
How is weight loss for people over 50?

Margi: I don't think you need your doctors permission to try a different protien drink. You need the fluid and nutrition. I use Matrix protien powder which my nutritionist suggested. I don't mind the taste at all and you can add fruit to it also. Good luck! -
No weight loss to report for this week. I went to Olive Garden for lunch today and thought I would eat lightly. I had 1 bread stick and the pasta e fagoli soup. I came home and looked up the calories on it to record in my program and I was flabbergasted! One breadstick was 140 calories and 1 bowl of soup was 588 calories! The best choice would have been the minestrone soup, but I was trying to get the protien. The minestrone soup was 140 calories. Nice to know after the fact. I think that I have been getting in more calories than I thought when I eat out. Lesson to be learned. Be careful!

JulieNYC's Extended Tummy Tuck and Breast Lift
kareyquilts replied to JulieNYC's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Julie: You look simply marvelous! Way to go. I can't believe that you're looking forward to another surgery. That's reassuring to me, that means it wasn't too bad! You're doing great. When can you start exercising again? -
Very interesting posts. I have heard that losing a lot of weight can be stressful for relationships. The psychologist at my doctors office said that this can be a problem, especially if your significant other is into food and that was a major component of your relationship. I love chocolate too and have been struggling. My strategy has been to keep it out of the house, but with an 8 year old that is sometimes difficult. I am going to try some of the suggestions here. Have a nice weekend.

Mimin: I don't think your losing lean muscle, but you might ask your doctor. I think that you probably lost more fluid after the surgery and everything that your body has been through. I gained one pound this week. I went to San Francisco to see my daughter, who is an aerial dancer, dance off a skyscraper. It was very exciting as I had not seen her do it yet. Then my DH and I were off to southern Utah for a conference that we were in charge of. It was fun, but hard to control eating and exercise. I was happy that I didn't gain much with all the junk I ate. I guess we all have to realize that the initial weight loss from the band is off and we're going to have to work harder to get to goal. I went to water aerobics today and my left side is very weak again. I'm not sure if I should call the doctor or just wait it out. It's starting to freak me out alittle. I hope I'm not going to have a bunch of health issures now that I'm getting closer to my goal. The main reason I wanted to lose weight was for my health and then of course, for my physical appearance. Well, I will just have to go with the flow I guess. Good luck to everyone this week!

Getting Ready for Spring Bootcamp
kareyquilts replied to Teresita's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm out of town so I can't weigh myself, but I haven't been able to exercise for nearly 2 weeks (had a health scare) and have not been making good choices. Glad I have this thread to help with a reality check. I have the go ahead to start exercising again, so I will get with the program again in 3 days when I get back home! Life is a trade off sometimes. Thanks for all the great posts and hard work. You guys are an inspiration! -

Turner: Talk to your doctor's office manage and get a payment plan you can live with or just talk to them and ask if you can still get support. They will let you know. Don't be embarassed, just matter of fact. If not, ask them to refer you to someone else. The doctor shouldn't get involved in the financial end of things. We have a business and these things happen. It's much better to be up front about it and let them know that you intend to pay them back at some point. Denise: Can you remind me of the rules for the M/E diet? Thanks. -
Denise: I'm not sure, but I think that they have caffeine in them. Is that what hypes you up?

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Bjean: I totally understand what you are saying. It's a mental thing. My doctor told me I should only eat 1/2 c. of food or I could stretch my pouch. I just can't do that. Mentally, I can't do it. I would probably feel full now that I have some restriction, but mentally it's not enough. I found myself cheating more when I thought I might be depriving myself. It's a mental game. I've been able to relax more lately. I think that my band has also loosened a bit, since my last fill. I know I'm not going to starve and so I've been able to eat more slowly and go back to being a good bandster. Just give yourself and little room to experiment and feel comfortable with your new restriction. I bet you'll do better and start losing again. Also, try to keep ice cream etc out of the house! -
Georgia: I think that sleeping with Brady was a way of punishing yourself, telling yourself that you are bad. You have got to stop thinking of yourself in negative ways! Heavenly Father loves you no matter what! You can do this. You need to get a different focus and stop thinking about yourself. Volunteer serve others, you know the drill. Good luck!

I love chocolate too! I think that chocolate is my favorite vegetable! I had a terrible scare this week. I woke up on Tuesday with numbness on my entire left side. My left side was very weak also. I could talk and walk, thankfully. My doctor saw me right a way and then if was off to a neurologist and then to the hospital for MRI's. I just got the results back today and I am thanking my lucky stars that I did not have a stroke or a brain tumor! What did happen? The doctors aren't sure, but the weakness is leaving and the numbness has turned to a strange tingling sensation. If I have any more episodes than they will pursue MS and spinal problems. Right now the diagnosis is an atypical migraine (anyone have these symptoms with a migraine?) or that I got a neurotoxin when I was snorkeling in the Dominican Republic. I was stung by something on my arm and leg (there were jelly fish in the area). I didn't think much of the stings because they didn't leave a mark or a rash and were only uncomfortable for a few moments. Wierd huh? Well, I just wanted to share. I have been scared and nervous ( and not allowed to exercise). Hopefully, all will go well now. Be thankful for your normal lives!

Lisa: Sorry about your kitty! How upsetting! Mimin: Reporting a 4 pound loss for this week. Am having some serious health issues which I will probably share when I see the doctor tomorrow and get the official verdict. (Nothing lapband related).

Avilla: Did your son ever go on the Juice Plus? I was wondering how you like the product? My plateau has finally come to an end, I think. I lost 4 pounds this week and the scale seems to be staying there. Finally, some success. -
Puddin: I agree with all these great women! It's time to cultivate your girlfriends and invest in some sisterhood. Also, check out a book called, "He's just not that in to you." Guys think differently than woman. There are wonderful guys out there, but they still think differently. Get some counseling, stay involved in a worthy cause and love yourself.
-
Lisa: Sounds like you've got a good attitude. Mimin: I didn't see any weight loss until this morning, so I don't know if that counts for the last week or for Monday's total. I just report it on Monday. I was too excited about it to not change my ticker!

How is weight loss for people over 50?
kareyquilts replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Househuntress: I don't think that the problem is only that it will be hard on your stomach muscles to get in and out of a bath tub, but also that the sutures shouldn't get wet for a while. I guess they would get wet in a shower also. Your stomach will be sore for a while, but nothing intolerable. -
How is weight loss for people over 50?

I second what Gayle has said! It does take a while to get your fill level to a point where you are satisfied on less food. That being said, I think that you can still watch your calorie intake and exercise until the band kicks in and starts to help you more. Good luck! -
Puddin: You are on the right track. You are a beautiful young woman and you will become on spiritually too. You're doing the right thing. I wish you the best. I hope that you can stay strong and true. Warmest Regards.

Lisa: So did they take out all the cc's that they initially put in? I don't blame you for feeling frustrated. Personally, I think that even 2 cc would help you feel fuller. You might be ultra senstive but if the restriction isn't too much on the fluroscope I think that you would get use to it. I find that after a fill I fill a little too tight at first. You might have to take it slowly and be on fluids and soft food for a little longer. I don't know and just wish that you could use your band better to help you. As far as the platueau, don't you think that is normal? I have noticed that a lot of the September bandsters have been plateauing right now. I have been on a 6 week plateau and have finally lost 3 pounds this week. My doctor said patience and exercise are the key. I think that you are doing really well. I guess it comes down to how much are you struggling. Are you hungry all the time? It's not so bad to be able to eat bread, etc, if you can control it and not eat too much. Just some random thoughts. I wish you the best.

Breasts (women only)
kareyquilts replied to princess_n_thep's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I really want a TT and breast lift when I get to goal weight (40 more pounds), but you ladies are scaring me about the lift. My husband doesn't mind the sagging, maybe I should just give up on the lift. I really don't want to lose sensation (there are only so many pleasures in life).
