How is weight loss for people over 50?

elainek: The surgeon who did my lapband is in the Seattle area. He is at Valley Medical Center in Renton. His name is Hanafy. He is a wonderful, compassionate person. If you could get him to do the fills, I'm sure you would be pleased. Good luck!

Has anyone signed on to the BB forum on their website? How did you find it? Any good tips?
  4. Diane: Good luck with your surgery, it's going to be wonderful. I'm thinking that maybe I should get a consult sooner than later after what you have posted on this website. I thought I needed to lose 20 more pounds but maybe I don't! Thank you for sharing with us. Good luck with your list, but remember that your mom loves you and has been around for a while she will cope even if everything isn't perfect. I'll be sending positive vibes your way on Oct. 9th!

TexRose: Hope your surgery went well! Mimin: Please keep us informed on your lower body lift. 20 more pounds and I'm going to get one! Are you going to start a separate thread? Sorry I haven't been on here in a while. I've been very busy! I'm a grandmother now. My son had a little boy 2 weeks agon and I've been nursing the momma and helping out. It's so exciting. I'm in love. I'm going to try and attach a picture: Okay, I will have to go to photobucket and size it and then I'll attach a picture of the cutest little baby ever!

Diane: Thanks for your input and positive outlook. It helps to hear these things and try and remember all the good things about our bands. We also need to remember that we are just people and people make mistakes. Always have since Adam and Eve. We are learning and that is all we can do. Pick ourselves up and keep going. Sandy- I'd be discouraged too, but now is the time to get back with your program. Don't hurt yourself any further. I know that I've said that to myself before. Why didn't I stop myself when I gained a few pounds instead of giving up. You can do it. You have been doing it! Keep checking in here, let us help you. Go back to your doctor and get some support. Ask your family for support. Think about what in your environment could be eliminated to make it easier to make good choices. Sandy you've lost quite a bit, please don't be discouraged! Bjean: A trainer?! I am impressed. Way to go! Remember when your knees couldn't do anything? Way to go. You're doing great! Forty pounds is a small child. What is your trainer having you do? Tell me more!

Tazz: Can't remember having a headache, but I'm sure that could be anesthesia. I would definetly call the doctor if it doesn't get better. Keep us posted!
  10. Julie: I'm amazed at the difference, again you wow me! We are back from our trip, our first grandbaby is due next week! Pretty exciting stuff! Please pm me and tell me what kind of jewelry you like, etc, so I can send your reward. I'm still holding on to a pound with all the traveling. I'm working out a lot and showing 3% less fat on my special scale, so hopefully even though the scales not moving, I'm building some muscle and losing fat. It will come off! Have a good day!

I can't believe that my band anniversay has come and come. I am down 75 pounds and want to lose 25 pounds more. It is coming off very slowly, but I'm finding that I'm going down in sizes. I think it's the exercise. Maybe I am building muscle and losing fat, but the scale isn't reflecting the change. I hope that is it. I am working with a trainer and doing strength training and walking 3 miles everyday. I want to start pilates and think I will in about a month. My son and his wife are living with us for about a month. She is going to have a baby next week. It will be my first grandchild. All very exciting! I'm very happy about all that has happened this year and feel that I finally have control of my eating and it feels wonderful! I'm still surprised when I go clothes shopping and head for the plus sizes. I am not in size 12! When I reach my final goal I think I will be a 10, maybe an 8. I wish everyone the best and hope we can keep in touch. It's great to have had this forum, I have felt supported and understood. I love being in touch with others who really understand what this is all about. Please don't totally quit checking in. It's helpful to hear from others who started this journey at the same time! Congratulations to everyone, may we continue the fight!

I think I will get a watch to. I like the instant feedback. The BB powers to be decided that one of more sensors weren't working on my bugg, so I send it back tomorrow and wait for a new one. I had it off for the last week while we went out of the country and I really miss it. Just having it on my arm is motivating. I am 1.5 pounds away from my goal and gained 2 pounds on our trip. GRRRR! I hope that comes off quickly. Anyway, everyone who buys the separate wristband please report in and let us know if you really do think it's helpful.

Okay, I saw the new watch at my gym. You still have to wear the armband, so if you have it don't fret. The watch can be worn as a watch or the face comes off and can be worn on a belt or put into your purse. It's like a bluetooth device that reads the info from your armband and give you immediate information. It's for convience so you don't have to download it to know how many steps you've walked, etc. One nice thing about it is that you can set it to read a particular event, kind of like a stop watch. So it will tell you how many calories your workout burned or you can set it to tell you when you've burned say 150 calories. That way you know if that is what it takes to meet your goal. The extra device costs $100. Don't sure if I'll get one or not. Hope that helps you understand what it is.

Avilla: No ones talking on any of the threads. I think that everyone is crazy busy with the end of summer! Keep up the good work. I'm going to Barbados next week and then I'm up for a new challenge!

Mimin: Maybe your boyfriend should get the body bugg. Men love gadgets and numbers. It's highly motivating and might be the tool that could make the difference for him, especially if he can exercise and lose weight. Just a thought. I am sorry to say this, but I'm hoping that some one else can take over keeping the statistics. I'm usually a responsible person, but I've just had too much going on and don't see it getting better. My son is in his 4th year of medical school, while on a tropical disease rotation on the island of Dominca if met, feel in love and married a gal from Dominica. They applied for a visa for her 9 months ago and she was just approved. She is 8 months pregnant and we are flying over there to help her move and accompany her back to our home. My son is in Chicago finishing a ER rotation and then will come to SLC at the end of the month to do a family practice rotation. We are very excited that Tricia will be here, we have been praying for this to happen, but the last few weeks have been a flurry of sending documents, making calls and now getting ready for mom and baby. Also, my daughter just got engaged and that is exciting, but bringing it's own stresses. I also have 3 other children, including an 8 year old who I need to get ready for school, etc. I know this is too much information, but I wanted everyone to know that even though my heart wants to keep this challenge and thread going, I just have too many time constraints right now. So, can anyone else take over?

Plateaus suck and I feel for you Moe! I think that Julie is right on with her advice, but I would also get on the BB forum and get some more feedback. Also, contact the BB people with your questions. I found that my bugg is not recording my steps accurately and so I've questioned if it is recording my calories burned accurately. I spoke with a technical advisor yesterday and they agreed that something is wrong with the way my bugg is working. They have referred my case to the next level up. We will see. These things are expensive and they should do what there suppose to do! I will keep everyone informed about how they handle this problem. Two days ago I walked my normal 3 miles and it recorded that I had walked 632 steps, yesterday it recorded 1010 steps for the same walk. The bugg is sick. Today it said 1100 steps. When I first got the bugg, my 3 mile walk was between 5,000 and 6,200 steps. Frustrating!

Mimin: Maybe you're building mucscle or it's that TOM. Also, remember that when you weigh less the same exercises that you have been doing burn fewer calories. Also as you weigh less it takes fewer calories to maintain your weight. Sucks doesn't it? But it's a lot better problem to have than the extra weight! I'm learning a lot because of my body bugg. I've been eating to much and I've really had to increase my activity because I don't want to eat a lot less. I'm a little weary of dieting. When does your boyfriend get his LB? I'm sorry I haven't recorded everyones weight. Last week no one reported. I will try and get it all down later day. Keep up the good work everyone!

Consistency is a hard thing! I was at our cabin for the weekend, didn't log in and at poorly. Had a 1.5 gain, so it's back to the grind. Hopefully, I can make up for it. I just emailed the BB folks because after walking for 3 miles, my BB said I had walked only 632 steps! My bb has been logging my daily walks at between 3,000-6,000 steps which I thought was a big discrepancy, but 632 steps is not an acceptable accounting. I'm sure that the bb was snugly on my arm, it didn't give any vibrations that something was wrong. Do you think it's broken? Has anyone else experienced any problems like this? Julie: I still need your address.

I just lost 2 pounds. I think the bugg really helps. I'm up for a challenge. Julie, I'm 1 pound away from my 175 goal! You still haven't PM'd me with your address so I can send you something! My next real goal is to reach 165. At that point, I will weigh less than my husband. That's a worthy goal, don't you think?

Sorry, I haven't posted any results for this week. Everyone was slow in giving their results and then I went out of town again. How about I post this week with next Monday's results? I will and be better. Maybe I shouldn't have volunteered for this, but I really want to see this group keep going. I think its so helpful. Diane thanks for all the good information. I'm going to check out the websites. Maybe it's good that our goals change. I would have found it too overwhelming to think about the final goal right off the bat. I'm doing better with shorter, smaller goals. It just seems more doable. Right now, I just want to lose 5 pounds!

Punkey: Good luck getting the BB! It is hard to figure out calories when eating out. I think that I do best when I don't eat out. That seems impossible, with all the traveling and busy life style that we have. I guess that you just have to make the best choices. Julie: Hope your date was worth it. You need to PM me with your address so I can send your surprise to NYC!
