kareyquilts replied to TexasFire's topic in Fitness & Exercise

I guess I'll go to my plastic surgery with a little more of me than I wanted. :rolleyes2:I'll just have to keep trying!:wink2: -
February/March 08 plastics
kareyquilts replied to losingjusme's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
You all crack me up. I'm glad this thread was started. I'm just wanting a little feedback from all you experts. My lapband doctor said not to unfill. It seems like most of you are getting unfilled? Is this on the recommendation of your band docs? Also, I'm wondering about the nausea. Seems like the plastic sites certainly say this is a possiblity. Should I be talking to my banddoc about this or just getting a prescription from my plastics guy? I may be getting the lower profile port if the 2 docs get everything coordinated. I have a little aliegn like Tami so I hope it works out! My band doc said she would be putting the exact same fill in, when they take out the fluid (before they remove the port) and measure. They will then put the lower profile port in and then refill to same level. I don't have alot of confidence in my band doc. She is not the surgeon who did my surgery (he left the state) and I have only seen her a few times for fills. She didn't even know there was a lower profile port until I made her call the company. I guess I'm saying that if there is a good reason for getting an unfil I might just insist that she does that. I'm sure she would if I insisted. Anyway, lots of things to think about, while I walk around grabbing my stomach and boobs and thinking about things. I think I'm beginning to lose my mind... -
February/March 08 plastics
kareyquilts replied to losingjusme's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Tami: You're funny, I think I will go for the boobies! We'll see. I thought of a few more things to add to your awesome list. How about bendable straws and a baby monitor, so you and your caregiver can communicate without too much fuss. Maybe you'll want 2, so you can listen in on your mom, too. I'd look on ebay for a cheap one. Thanks for the link for the bromelein. Eating can be an issue, especially when your nervous. I keep giving myself pep talks about it and exercising my little (so to speak) buns off! We'll all make it through this! -

Tami, I think you mentioned finding bromelain on line in a chewable tablet? Could you send me a link for that? Thanks. -

Gosh do I feel left out! I'm glad I found this thread! There wasn't much happening on the other threads so I started looking around. I hope I get by as well as Nana! Neil, I'm glad you're on here to balance everyone. Tami, thanks for the useful lists and thanks to everyone for website links. I've been trying to decide about breast augmentation. Odered a kit to try different sizes out in the privacy of your own home. I think I'll do it, but the extra $1,800 is a bite and I'm not sure if adding a little will make me look heavier. I've worked to hard to jeopardize that! It's all very exciting and having this group helps me be a little less nervous. I finally went to an alternative health care provider who does Touch for Health and energy work and she really helped me. I actually was surprised, but I am again sleeping through the night and have a lot less anxiety. Wish all the best! -
What to wear during recovery?

HarleyNana: Did you have a breast lift? I am a little worried about what my breasts will look like. My PS said they would be perky, but smaller. I've lost a lot of volume and it seems like the last 10 pounds as taken even more. I hear that with a BL you're higher, but you don't have the fullness on top. Is that how yours are? If you had it to do all over, would you have a little augmenation? Hope this isn't too personal, but I need some input from someone whose been there! -
Nina: Congratulations on your weight loss. You can and are doing it. I have lost a total of 10 pounds in the last month. I am working very hard. Exercising 6 days a weeks and counting every blasted calorie. I think it is paying off! Unfortunately, the weight loss seems to be making my breasts even empytier. I ordered a kit from a female plastic surgeon on the internet that has a special bra and different size implants, so you can try them on in your own home, have your husband look and decide for yourself. I guess that sizing is an issue because the sizes don't come in bra or cup sizes but in cc's. According to this website, deciding on the size can be difficult and is the main and most common reason for revision surgery. Anyway, I haven't made up my mind, but I did talk to the PS and I don't have to decide until the 2 week pre-op visit, so I have time to think about every thing. I guess I'm inclined to go for it, even though it's an additional $1,800. My DH thinks I should leave well enough alone!

JulieNYC's medial thigh lift, breast augmentation and mons lift
kareyquilts replied to JulieNYC's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Well Julie sometimes life sucks! Sorry you are having a difficult time. GRRR! Have you tried lympathetic massage? I'm sure you know all the tricks, but I've been told that this is especially helpful. I hope that you and the betadine get along. Would the drains be as bad as the seromas? Maybe it would be worth it to deal with them instead of all this other stuff. You'll be in my prayers! -
JulieNYC's medial thigh lift, breast augmentation and mons lift

Julie: I hope you are just busy at work and that everything is alright. Speak to us sweetie! -
LJM and NIna: Thanks for the support. I don't care that much about their opinions, but I really don't like the scare stories! I've decided to at least investigate breast augmentation and get more information. Then I will decide what to do. I really enjoy this thread.

Today I was in a meeting for a church group and they started talking about an article that came out saying how Utah has the most plastic surgeries of any state, per capita. These ladies were saying, how could people put there lives at risk for an optional procedure. Then they started telling PS horrow stories. It really irrated me. I knew that one of the ladies had had breast augmentation and a tummy tuck! Of course, I didn't tell them about my plans, so it wasn't anything personal, but still. People have more opinions that the drug store has pills! Not what I wanted to hear today!

I agree with Foofy, Mimin, you better update your thread! Glad you got clearance for the gym. Sandranoelle, good to hear from you. I hope you'll post more often. 70 pounds down is damn good! Don't give up. Once you get some of the mental issues beat you'll be a super star!

January Exercise - HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)
kareyquilts replied to TexasFire's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Whose: That is really neat! Let us know when the article becomes available online. Congratulations! You really are doing well. YEAH! Does anyone out there know about rowing machines? I love rowing at the gym and am thinking about getting one for home. Thanks. -
I think BJean is right on. There seems to be control issues on everyone's part. I absolutely hate it when my DH or DM decides to be the food police! Now, I just make a joke about it and do what I'm going to do. Sometimes it's okay to have a treat. Only I know my calorie intake, my physical exercise and my appetite. I'm certainly not going to tell anyone else what to do in that department. Housecleaning is a whole other issue and everyone has issues. I think that you all should go to a movie or have some fun together. Humor and fun help most things. Hope you all have a good week!

Reporting for this week. I'm down 1 more pound. 17 more to go!

Diane: My oh my! What a hurtful weekend! Why is your husband bringing home cherry pie? I think it's very undermining to you. He is certainly sending you mixed messages! I can't have stuff like that in the house and it's really not very good for anyone, whether they need to lose weight or not. It was great that your DH thought your weight was good and he probably didn't mean to hurt you, but I guess you need to teach him what a powerful effect his words can have on you. That being said, did it make you feel better to eat all the crap? It didn't teach him anything, that's for sure! I don't want to come down on you, but I know that you want to conqueror this weight thing and I think that you almost have. Maybe you should have gone and bought a new outfit or went for a walk or written your hurt feelings down. I don't think the food thing helped you at all. Can you open up to your DH and ask him to stop bringing crap into the house and tell him specific things he can do to be supportive? Just remember, one bad weekend won't ruin your efforts or your relationship. I wish you the best.

January Exercise - HAPPY NEW YEAR! :)
kareyquilts replied to TexasFire's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Stef: Thanks for doing this. I hope things settle down. Nothing stresses me more than my family, even when it's all good. I'm trying to prepare for my daughter's wedding in May, and my Mom's 75th birthday party in March, oh and plastic surgery in March and the list could go on. I think you just have to make time and do the best you can. Allow yourself to be imperfect and regroup. Plus you were out of town and traveling always makes be gain weight. You're off your routine and have less control of your diet. You'll be fine. My stats for this last week: 1/20 W= 168 C= 300 R= 320 -
I'm thinking flat tum and waist too! I'm also having a breast lift, but starting to wonder if I shouldn't augment a little. I have very little tissue on the top. Was a D cup, but I'm not filling it out now. PS said that I would be a little smaller cup size, when the exta skin is taken away. He said they would be perky! I don't know what that means really. Are they going to be little and perky? I'm not sure if I care, I just can't visualize. He said when we do the back side and arms, we could augment, but I think I should decide and do it now. I just don't know what to do. My DH doesn't want be to augment because he says that it's harder to detect breast cancer and he doesn't mind the size they are now. I just want to look good, but I also don't want to feel like I'm settling. Like the PS's who work on bariatric patients and say you should be happy in clothes. I know I'm 53, but I want to look good. It's going to hurt and I'm going to be going through a lot, so I why shouldn't I look good when it's all said and done?

I've been in the blind panic mode for a while and I've got longer to wait than you do. Can't wait to see the pics and here all about it. Sounds like you're going to have a fantastic experience!

Diane: Congratulations on the weight loss. You're going to do fine! BJean: On the exercise, I meant the exercise I'm doing now to get myself in shape. I don't think I'll be exercising for a while after the surgery. Sorry that your stalled on the weight loss. Boy do I know how frustrating that is! I think that Medifast is a great idea. It gets rid of the guess work for the amount of calories going in. Have you ever thought about getting the body bugg. It helped me get ove my plateau. Are you still going to water aerobics?

losingjusme goes for plastics
kareyquilts replied to losingjusme's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
LJM: You're doing fantastic! Give yourself credit for all your hard work. Down 8 pounds in a month and lost inches is about as good as it gets! The PS is going to give you the boost that you need. It's all good. I hope you can take a moment and enjoy your success! (I need to tell myself that too). -
It is frustrating how different our metabolisms can be! I got my BB when I hit a plateau and it has made all the differences. As I'm sure you know, as we lose weight it takes less calories to maintain our lower weight. I really needed the information the BB gave me, because I either had to eat less food or exercise more. I was already eating about 1250-1300 calories and I didn't want to eat less! I got a trainer and reallly hit the exercise hard, working on building muscle mass, which burns more calories! I do 30 minutes of cardio everyday, work out with a trainer 3 days a week and do pilates 2 times a week. With all that work, I still only burn 2450-2600 calories a day. It's frustrating, but at least I know what I have to do and I didn't know that before the BB. We're the lucky ones!

Diane: From one red head to another, you crack me up! I think I'll take BJean's suggestion and get a spray on tan and try and enjoy it for all! BJean: It has been a while. How are you doing? Thanks for your advice. I think I will wear the special socks. I'm planning on needing a lot of time for healing and just hope that all my exercise will help me recover well.
