Confused, How much can you eat?

I am 2.5 weeks post op....I am having one of those days where I can't seem to eat enough! I know I am supposed to be on mushies...but everything I try goes down good. I am still trying to be mindful of what I eat and make good choices...but I am still eating things not on the mushie list. I had some chicken today...chewed it really well. I had a whole can of tuna...some watermelon, protein shake...and a few other things. Now I feel pretty full. This food has been stretched out over the course of the day...but I still feel like I ate alot! I have no restriction of course, so i guess everything is just sliding right on through. I hear of those that say they are at the same stage as me and are only eating 2 or 3 ounces at a time. I would be starving if that's all I ate!

"HAPPY HOUR" with the Lap Band??

I had vodka and cranberry juice last night by the pool. Ocean Spray makes a diet cranberry juice. It tastes fine to me....and no carbonation.

    Mushy stage

I just ate some watermelon too. It was really good....surely that wouldn't hurt me would it? I am 2 and a half weeks post op.

    Mushy stage

I have a dumb question. On the mushie stage...why do you need to blend food? I mean if you are eating soft foods....like scrambled eggs...and you chew chew chew...isn't that sort of the same thing? I chew until there is not much left to chew. It goes down great. Am I wrong to think this way? If so, tell me now because I admit...I have been eating canned soups and things that are soft and tender and not blending them...just chewing them well.

    June 2009 Surgery

I had my two week follow up visit yesterday. Doc removed staples, but one incision broke open about a quarter inch. Two more days until a shower! Dang it.

Good luck Chris and TopTier! I would call the surgeons office just to be safe Mandie. Once you explain your symptoms to them, they will better know what it might be and how serious it is. No need to take any chances!

well...I got staples. Don't know why, but it stinks because I can't shower for 2 weeks. Yikes...no wonder everyone leaves the room when I enter. Kidding...I do sponge bathe but it isn't the same.

This site is so informational and who knows better than the ones who have been through it! I can't imagine going in to this surgery almost blind...as far as what to expect. What a wonderful asset!

    June 2009 Surgery

It's normal to be nervous Chris....you just have to justify to yourself why you are doing this and why it is needed. The surgery isn't that bad. It is all over so quick. People recover at different rates of course. Just follow orders to a "T"....the pain meds help so much. I personally didn't need them at all after 2.5 days. Then I started taking 1/2 a pill at night only to help me sleep. Walking and farting will be your best friends! Get the gas out and then you will feel SO much better. Stay focused and you will be fine!

upgegraf...that liquid Centrum is NASTY! Be prepared...you may not be able to swallow it once you know how it tastes! I was banded on June 12th and I have found I can swallow regular vitamins just fine. My pain meds were pills and so was my antibiotic...so I figured...I could swallow a vitamin and I can.

    Creamy soups

I just started into my second week and cream soups are going down great! I make sure it is strained and on the runny side. Protein shakes are what help keep you full and satisfied though, so if you do experiment a little ...don't forget your shakes. And as always...make sure you check with the doc!

    No Shrimp??

what a relief! So far...many more people can still enjoy shrimp than those who can't! I would hate to have to give up shrimp.

I am so jealous! I would love a shower right now. I have gauze pads over my incisions, so no way. The doc said to wait two weeks, so two weeks it is.

    June 2009 Surgery

I was banded June 12th. As far as the pain and gas...well...it varies greatly from one to another. Pain was not a problem for me. They had me so pumped full of meds in the hospital that I really didn't have much discomfort. They also send you home with pain meds. I only took mine for about two days. I even cut them in half because they were too strong! Now I take a half at night only to help me sleep well. The gas for me was the worse part of it. It made my tummy feel like Mt St Helens! I was bloated and miserable. At least it was all in my tummy and not my shoulder as so many have it. Walking and going to the bathroom all the time is what helped me. It does get better each day! By day three...most of the gas was gone.

Hi Toptier! I bought the EAS powder at Target to try. It is pretty descent with skim milk...later I hope to add some yogurt maybe. The premixed sounds good! I will pick some up. Today I made some veggie beef soup and strained the brooth off. It is so good! Finally something with some simularity of real food! LOL!

    June 2009 Surgery

I had my surgery Friday June 12th. Today is my first day to feel pretty good. The gas has subsided tremendously! Thank goodness. I thought my tummy was going to explode. I have been able to drink Slim Fast shakes and they go down good. I also have some EAS chocolate flavor whey protein drink that I mix with skim milk. Other than that, just broth and clears so far.

    What is safe to take?

I am wondering about what to take for upset stomach. I was just banded Fri morning...came home yesterday and my stomach is upset. Is Malox okay?
  24. Oh yeah...and no red or purple juices or jello.
  25. I was required to go on clear liquids two days before surgery (tomorrow) but I can't have any milk products. Just broth, jello, gingerale, fruit juice strained. Tonight I have to drink that magnesium citrate stuff and continue clears. So I didn't get to have the protein shakes.
