  1. That's how it was for me too. I was so tired of running to the restroom. As soon as I went on mushies and solids...all was well.
  2. Constipation is no fun and it is not healthy. I would check with my surgeon and ask for something to help you go. It will help with the gas and get things moving again. With all the liquids you should be on this soon post op...you should level out fairly quick with a little help!
  3. I have had two fills now, and I stick with liquids the first day, then very soft mushies for a few days after. I make sure the mushies are soupy in consistency. Like others, I find my band feels tighter after a few days pass by. I sure don't want to get so comfortable with shoveling a load of food and trying to swallow on the same day my band decides to kick in! That's been one of the biggest changes for me, trying to keep my bites tiny.

    3rd fill

I had my second fill yesterday. First was 4cc's and yesterday was 2 more in a 9 cc band. So far I don't feel much restriction...but of course I am just eating mushies and liquids. I will probably feel more as I have noticed it sometimes takes some time before it kicks in. My doc told me that it has been his experience that with a 9 cc band...the "sweet" spot is around 7 to 7.5 cc's.

How do you feel after your fills?

I just got my second fill today. The first one was 4cc's and this one was two. I am on liquids and so far so good. I really can't feel anything different. Maybe once I start eating solids again I will be able to see a difference. It just seems to affect people in different ways. My doc always wants me to ease in to the new fill. Liquids for a few days (well he says a week) then mushies, then solids. I think that is a bit overkill, so I just follow my bodies lead.

    Anxiety over 2nd fill

I get my second fill next week. My first fill of 4cc's gave me a little restriction because I don't eat as much and I have had the "stuck" feeling twice. I still am eating too much though. I am curious about fill #2.
  7. On my first fill....actually so far my only fill...doc felt around to locare port...and yes, that was the most uncomfortable part of the ordeal, and that wasn't bad. He had to stick me twice to get it in the right place. He put in 4cc's and then left the needle in while I stood up and drank water. That way he wouldn't have to poke me again in case it was too much. No big deal. I felt it fill up around my tummy. That was an odd feeling! I have little restriction. What restriction I do have seemed to occur several weeks after that fill.
  8. I have had one fill. I know I don't eat as much as I did before, but I can still pack away some groceries if I don't watch myself! One thing that helps me is to not let myself get too hungry. If I do, that's when I tend to eat more than I should. Funny thing, sometimes I feel a little restriction...and some times I don't. Maybe it's the type of food I am eating. I agree though...when you get more restriction you will see the difference and it hopefully will make you mindful of what you are doing. My second fill is next week and I am really hoping my weight loss journey will kick up another notch! I haven't lost much to date...but I am not rushing things. I feel great and I have recovered 100% from surgery. I hope your band proves to be the best thing ever for you!
  9. I will probably attend the next one at Suburban. Thanks for the parking info!

  10. Hi JayTee! Yes, I remember. Well, the surgery went well and I have healed back to what I felt like before surgery. I was pleased with doctor Shina. Maybe not the best bedside manner it's true...but a good surgeon which is where it counts. Also I have noticed that he has loosened up a bit now that I go to his office for follow-ups. I have only had 1 fill so far. Not much weight loss, but I know this is slow going...so I am not going to rush things. The first fill really hasn't done much but I am due for another one next week. We shall see what that does. That's about it for me...how are you doing? Are you going to the support meetings? I need to start as I haven't gone yet. I just need to learn when the next one is. Hope you are doing well and that the surgery is working for you.

  11. I had my first fill on Wed. I got 4cc's in a 9cc band. He had to stick me twice to get it in the port...very minimal pain however. Just a tiny prick. He told me a week on liquids...but today I am starving...so I am doing a cream of mushroom soup. It sure tastes good! I am just taking it very slow and making sure everything is going down good. I felt my band when he put the fill in...it sort of felt like a balloon filling which makes sense. It didn't hurt at all though. I have been sticking to clear liquids until today....well...this evening. There are lot's of different responses to how soon one can eat after having a fill. Some say they had to wait a few hours and then could basically eat whatever went down okay. Some say they had to be on liquids for 2 weeks, then mushies for two weeks. Maybe it not only depends on the surgeon...but maybe the type of band and how large the band is and how much of a fill you get. Also the diet was vague...it said liquids but only mentioned a few choices. Maybe they meant soup was okay as a liquid as long as it was a cream soup. Who knows...but I am just sticking to common sense and hope this fill at least reduces what I can eat somewhat. So far it's too soon to tell.

    Bad First Fill

I just had my first fill today. It took two sticks...but finally he got it. I could feel the band inflate as he injected the saline. I got 4cc's in a 9cc band. I don't really feel any different. He put me on liquids for a week! Don't know if I can go for a whole week...especially since I don't feel anything, but I also know it could kick in a few days after the fill...so I will proceed with caution! Then after a week of liquids he wants a week of soups then a week of mushies...he is very conservative.
  13. I bought EAS brand Whey Protein Chocolate drink mix from Target. To jazz it up a bit...add a tablespoonful of peanut butter. Yum. I also added some banana to vanilla flavor. Just maybe a half and make sure your shake is watery and not too thick since you are early in the healing process. Maybe some creamed soups you could have? Buy the good brands though...it's worth the extra flavor!
  14. I think it's different for everyone of course, but personally I agree. If I am losing weight I would not get a fill just because it is marked on the calendar to do so. The band could easily work psycologically as well as physically on individuals. The idea is to lose weight, and if you are losing, consider yourself blessed and go with it until it stops or slows down and it probably will sooner or later. But then you will be ahead in the game and maybe a tiny fill will be enough to carry you through for another good long time. That would be great! Best wishes towards your goal!
  15. Sounds like you are doing great PGA. I started in the garden working after a few days. I knew if I walked through the garden and saw weeds I would have the impulse to start pulling...and I did. I was careful though. I think as long as it doesn't hurt and you are not straining your tummy you should be okay. I bet you will have to take it easy playing golf though.
  16. I had surgery June 12th. I stuck with the 2 week liquid, then mushies for a few days, but all along feeling as if I could eat more things with no problem. So, at dinner time, I made an effort to choose the healthiest foods that night, and eat a small serving, but yet enough to satisfy me. I avoid tough meats just because I may as well get used to it now before my first fill Aug.5th. I also try to keep watermelon cut up and in the fridge or other fresh fruits. It sure helps to stave off a sweet attack or even just a munchie attack. I am not gaining anything, but I know I have to stay on top of this or I will slowly start back with what got me here in the first place! I try to talk to myself before I eat and remind myself to think before I grab. It has helped. I do have my weak moments though. Today I bought a half a cherry pie. It is sugar free (but not fat free), so I did treat myself to a slice. I will make sure my family finishes it off tonight so that I don't. Maybe it's my cheat for the week. If I have one cheat per week and can hold it there...I will be happy! Maybe not the right way to think, but I am human and I would rather have a controlled cheat than an out of control binge.
  17. Hi TopTier! I was thinking about you but I hadn't seen any posts from you in awhile...now I know why. Geeez Louise gal. I sent you a PM with my email if you want to keep in touch since we are just across the river from each other! Glad things are improving for you.
  18. some corn bread and beans sounds pretty good as a matter of fact!
  19. I think I would be afraid to try bread. That seems to be one of the biggest problem foods. I am not a bread nut anyway. Of course now that I can't have it...it's just human nature to want it! I guess corn bread would probably be okay since it's crumbly and not doughy.

    June 2009 Surgery

I have started adding 2 tablespoons full of peanut butter to my chocolate protein drink...it's good! Tastes sort of like a peanut butter cup and gives you an even bigger dose of protein.
  21. I am 2.5 weeks post-op. Supposed to be on mushies....but I am eating what the family eats....just chosing the softer foods at dinner and chewing them well. I am drinking protein shakes as well. So far I haven't had trouble with what I have tried...but I am not pushing it either. I am staying clear of breads, heavy meats, anything course in texture. I feel like I could eat a cow actually....but I am not going to do it. Maybe a little hamburger....but not the whole thing! LOL!
  22. Thanks BG! That makes total sense to me. I am really trying to listen to my body cues for food, and I am not eating unless I'm hungry...but dang...when you are rumbling down there...then it's time to locate some chow!

Confused, How much can you eat?

I am 2.5 weeks post-op. I feel like I could eat anything and everything. I've been pretty good, but today was one of those days where I felt like I couldn't eat enough! I am supposed to be on mushies, but everything I eat goes down good. I have strayed some over the past few days. Today I ate a whole can of tuna! I read posts where people can only eat a few spoonfuls. I realize I don't have restriction now and I guess everything is just sliding right on down. I am still trying to make good choices and eat healthy food. I am just able to eat quite a bit. I don't get the mushie part anyway. Isn't it the same if you just eat soft foods and chew the heck out of them? Does anyone else feel like they are able to hold more than they thought? I am drinking 2 to 3 protein drinks a day also. I don't feel like I am stuffing myself or anything...I just am eating more than what others say they can eat at this point I guess.
