My name is Cristina and I just turned 40 years old and was banded on Jan. 13th, 2010. I have had weight issues all my life and developed diabetes around 10 years ago. In the past 2 or so years my health really started to decline and my diabetes was getting progressively worse. I had been looking into the lap band procedure for a while but as i had to pay for it myself, was running into difficulty finding somewhere where there wouldn't be a lot of added travel expenses etc. Then one day I was driving in my care and heard an advertisement for the False Creek surgical centre's new lap band program. It was a sign from above as i lived very close to the centre and has known people who have had surgery there. I booked an assessment appointment that day and the rest is history. The surgery went "well" although the recovery was a bit longer than I anticpated. It is now 2 weeks since I was banded and I am feeling pretty good. Still having some left shoulder pain but it is much better than it was the first week. I am starting to feel hungry now also so am very happy to have started on soft foods. I am looking forward to my first fill and to see the weight start to come off.looking forward to talking with people in my community who have also had the procedure. I know I will benefit from the support.ThanksCristina
