Greetings from Seattle. I am banding in 5 days.
Vayron replied to susujohnson's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, I would follow the docs instructions to the letter. I had my surgery done in TJ Mexico too on 2/4/10. I was on clear liquids for 7 days then full liquids (included liquid yogurt) 2 weeks after then solid. No mushies at all. Liquid for 21 days sucks but I'm glad I did it. Many of the posts on here are helpful but the food information is really conflicting so I just followed my doctors orders. I would ask him questions about what others had done and he had his reasons why they shouldn't do that and he had been doing this surgery a lot longer than many docs in the US so I did exactly what he said. I too was self pay and I'll be darned if I am going to pitch that money away and have the potential of losing my band later for a quick gratification now. But that's me. I do know it' s not easy. So good luck with your will power. I needed mine I'm sure you will need yours too. -
experiencing terrible pain in port area when bending over
Vayron replied to Katy517's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I had excruciating pain when bending over a month after surgery. So bad I had to go home from work. It was the kind of pain that your eyes tear up immediately and you can't stop yourself from crying. I had almost no pain until then and whamo. When I called the doctor he also said it was normal and to not bend over and to get bed rest for the next couple of days. I went home from work on a Wednesday and laid on the couch till Monday. liquid Tylenol was my best friend. I haven't had any problems since. I had my husband wait on me for everything and had him or someone else pick up anything I dropped. It hurt so bad but now it's gone. I hope it stays that way cause I really scared my co-workers and my husband half to death. Most everyone knows I had my surgery in Mexico so they were freaking out I wasn' t going to get care here. So far so good, I'm down 40 pounds and I had my surgery February 4th. Had my first fill under flouro here in the states and they said my band looked really good and my surgery was really well done. I'm happy despite all that pain. -
Was anyone banded on Feb 4??
Vayron replied to holliellen190's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First fill today. Liquids made me full so I'm thinking it's working so far! Down 16 pounds since surgery. 30 total! Feeling pretty good too. Needle didn't hurt so much but pushing on my port area did. Ouch but survived. -

Been doing great till this last Wednesday. Had to go home from work cause my port area was hurting so bad. Haven't had any pain since surgery then this. Spending quality time on the couch taking tylenol and using my heating pad through the weekend. Didn't need them before and I guess I pushed myself to hard to soon. Feel like a bum but can't bend over well cause it hurts so bad, so I have to slow down. Annoyed but it is what it is. Down 13 pounds since surgery! :smile2: Eating is going well and love that I can't each so much anymore. Not having anything to drink for an hour after is the hardest part. My Water intake is way down which I don't like. Adjusting as well as to be expected I guess. Hope everyone else is doing well. Vayron -
Oh, One other thing. Fatique is not a factor for me and still isn't. Been on a 21 day liquid diet and hunger the last 3 days has been almost unbearable but I'm not tired. Been reading these boards for a while and some folks have horrible fatique. I guess it comes to knowing yourself and how you have re-acted to previous diets etc.
-
would think fatigue because of the change in eating and your body needing so many calories to run your body at a certain weight. but my mom was saying something about gas problems and she is afraid that i would get that and be embarrassed with myself over that. but out of most the things i read on here didnt have any such thing __________________ Vixian, The previous poster is correct. You are young and the side effects should be minimal. However, that being said I must add the the day I had my surgery there were 2 other people having it the same day. I was age 40 surgery day the other person was in her 40's or early 50's (can't quite remember) and the third person was 20. Myself and the other older woman handled the surgery very well. The 20 year old had the most problems as she couldn't stop puking. I felt so bad for her and there was nothing I could do. The nurse really took care of her and worked her butt off to make her comfortable but it is one of those things that you don't know until it happens. Anethesia obviously affects people differently. I guess you don't know till it happens to you but just be mindful it could happen and it sucks. That being said I must add the anethesia used in Mexico where I had my surgery and what they use in the states(I had my gall bladder removed in 06) is quite different. No hang over crap from the stuff they used in Mexico. Recovered much quicker however my memory isn't as good from the day as it is from my gall bladder surgery. Could just be me and how I handled the difference. I guess my point is anethesia is weird and affects folks so differently. Can't count on one persons experience however you can relate to one more than the other. Good luck. Vayron

Hi, I was banded on the 4th too! This liquid post op diet is wearing very thin now. I saw you were from Louisiana and the first thing I thought was I bet gumbo strained would be really tasty! One more day of this liquid crap and I can eat normal food! I'm so ready for it! I can't remember why I was responding to you now cause I started thinking gumbo not strained would be even better. Oh well, one more day of liquids and I'm done! Real food here I come!

I have so far. 21 day liquid post op for me. Thursday is the first day I can eat solid food. I can't wait. I am so hungry right now. I'm lucky as I have had no lightheadedness or anything weird just a growling stomach. Scrambled eggs sounds like gourmet food to me right now and that's what I'm having Thursday morning first thing! Good luck to you.

Please be honest with me.....
Vayron replied to philippians413's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh my that had to be tough. I'm on a 21 day liquid diet myself. First day of solid food is Thursday and I can't wait. I have not cheated once. My motivation is knowing I paid quite a bit out of pocket for this surgery (I'm self pay) and I'd be taking that money and throwing it all away if I cheat. I don't get mushies or pureed food so that sounds heavenly to me. In my research of the band I saw people were getting 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 fills and asked my coordinator about it. She said they went on solid food too soon and even though they feel fine now 6 months down the road give or take, it can cause problems. The other reason was so many doctors don't use fluro. Fills should be 2-3 for women for a lifetime and 1-2 for men according to my doctor so adding up that cost too I'm sticking to my liquid diet and I say that as my stomach is growling! I'm not try to preach or make you feel bad just letting you now my motivation to get through this liquid crap phase. Also, folks at work have noticed my weight loss now and have said quite a few nice things so that is motivating too. Good luck I wish you the best! -
TMI Alert: Constipation...
Vayron replied to ~amy~'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Amy - Thanks I didn't know you could get it anywhere but online. I'll check our local Walgreens too. It's awesome stuff. Not to be gross but what I like about it is not only does it make you go but the "volume" is large. I used it Friday night and weighed myself Saturday morning before I had to go. This morning I'm down 3 pounds! I feel so much lighter too. I didn't realize yogurt, Soup, and Protein shakes could constipate (or weigh) so much but I guess they can. Yesterday I also felt good enough to walk what felt like miles in costco until some moron ran his cart into my left side while I was standing looking at something. That hurt! I know he didn't mean to but I really felt like beating him. I walked it off instead. Down 12 pounds since surgery on the 4th! Lost 14 before surgery so that is 26 total. Yeah! Vayron -
TMI Alert: Constipation...
Vayron replied to ~amy~'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kleritea. It works great. You have to order it online and have it overnighted. It's all natural and really makes you go. It's really gentle and even qualifies as clear liquid for post op. It's smells and tastes really good. Sounds like you need a 10 minute steep. Drink before bedtime it helps you sleep too. You can only order it from dr natura dot com and it's part of a colon cleanse but you can drink just the tea (and buy the just the tea) for this issue. It works so amazing. I am post op too still on liquids and bought it just for this issue. Good luck. -
Considering out of country banding
Vayron replied to KarenCI's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my lap band in Mexico and couldn't be happier. I have to admit it was probably the best care I have ever received. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and I feel great. I will go back to Dr Ortiz at the OCC for my first fill too. I have found a couple of places closer to do fills but I wanted my first one back with OCC. If I need anything they are a phone call away. My insurance wouldn't cover me either no co-problems. It cost less than half of what it would here in the US and I know I got better care. It's up to you but it's not as scary as one would think. I don't know anything about Costa Rica as I only researched Mexico and when I researched the lap band Dr. Ortiz's name name kept coming up. So I researched him further. He was a great choice for me. -

holliellen190 – Wow Everett is just up the road. I'm in Bothell. I was banded in Mexico at the Obesity Control Center by Dr.Ortiz. I had five incisions but only one was large the rest really small. The rest didn’t even hurt just the one larger one and it wasn’t even all that big. Left a heck of a bruise though. Today is the first day I’ve been able to bend over without it hurting. Took forever to put my left sock on in the morning the last couple of weeks. I have to admit other than that I’ve been feeling really great. Tweety39 – I can’t wait for something new either. It’s kinda been that way the last couple of weeks. When I got back home I was able to have beef broth and I swear it was the best thing I had ever tasted. When I added tomato Soup same thing happened. My first real meal will probably be scrambled eggs and a little piece of cheese. Hardly exciting but I’m sure it will taste great! Weird I have never thought about a meal as much as I have the first solid food one I will have Thursday. Vayron -

Hi, I was also banded on February 4th. I am still on full liquids and will be till this Thursday the 25th. My doctor has a 21 day post op liquid diet then solid food. I'm doing pretty well, I've kept really hydrated so no tiredness. Just soreness which is close to being gone now. Vayron -
Hi, I enjoy eating out too and am in the full liquid phase as well. Last night I had my husband go to our local Thai place and he got me Tom Kah Soup with chicken. My husband ate the chicken but that soup was some of the best I've ever had. Quite filling because of the coconut milk. I had him get the Tom Yum soup the night before with veggies (skipped the vegges too) and it was so good. They are basically the same soup just one has coconut milk added. I like the Kah better as it was more filling and so delicious! I had never had either before and it was a great treat and I have leftovers for tonight!

Feb 25th! pre-op diet questions...
Vayron replied to harliquinn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's a little late to be recommending this for you but if someone else reads this and they have time I would recommend the Atkins induction plan. I had 3 weeks prior to my surgery. The nutritionist at the OCC said she would prefer 4 weeks with the plan but I told her I could do it. I had 12 pounds to lose before surgery and I lost 14! Omlettes, cheese scrambled eggs, and bacon cheeseburgers, steak and salad are much easier than Protein shakes however I did drink the Atkins Dark chocolate Royale shakes too. 20 carbs a day or less is not easy for some people but for me it was a breeze never hungry and I felt great right before surgery. That said I knew I had the backup of the one week of protein shakes prior to surgery if it did not work. It did (I knew it would as I had done it before) and then some. Since surgery Feb 4th I've lost another 8! Wahoo!! I'm on my way to a healthier me!! -
TMI Warning: Having a serious constipation issue. HELP!!
Vayron replied to bennigancat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to hear about the ER. Yuk. For the future I highly recommend Kleritea. It's all natural, really gentle and tastes really good. Plus, it helps you sleep. I found it when I went to a walk in clinic because my colon pain was so unbearable. I had to leave work. I was told to take all the usual suspects but over the counter medicine wasn't working well and it always came back to diet anyway. I felt I was way to young to be having these kind of issues so I researched and found dr natura dot com it's part of a colon cleanse that is amazing to say the least about it. You can just buy the tea and it works great for constipation. I bought some for what I have been reading happens after the surgery. Feel Better. -
I am also having the surgery on Feb 4th! Yeah! :frown: So far I've lost the recommended pre-op weight using Atkins induction plan and am feeling great! Good luck to you (and me! )Thursday - Vayron

What is your favorite laxitive?
Vayron replied to sdpressl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, Of all things to have my first post about! I think one of the best kept secrets about this subject is Kleritea. It's a wonderful tea you drink before bedtime and helps with sleep too. For short term use only but you will go the next day and it's very gentle. You can go to Best Colon Cleanse and Cleansing Detox Programs to get it. I'm having my lapband surgery next week on Feb 4 and got a bag because I've been reading about this issue happening after surgery. I plan to be prepared for anything after reading everyones posts! Good luck! Vayron
