I've been banded for well over a year now, and all of a sudden I started getting acid reflux. This happens mostly at night (I wake up suddenly and feel like I'm gonna puke). I've got good restriction with no problems, and haven't had any adjustments for at least 6 months. Has this happend to anyone else? If so, what did you do?

I just went to a Federal Courthouse and had a really hard time getting into the building. My whole mid-section kept lighting up and setting off the system. After 5-6 tries and wand scans I mentioned I had surgery several months ago and they said that was probably it. They also suggested my doctor do an x-ray to make sure they didn't leave anything inside. Has this happened to anyone else?

Anyone out there recovering from a slipped band?
LapBandBobbi replied to pinklily27's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had my band slip in June and the doc took out 1/2 of the fluid. I gained 8 pounds in the 6 weeks after, then he started with a slight fill. But, unfortunatley I gained 10 pounds over the next 6 weeks. I got another fill this week and he put me back up to the fill level I was before the slip. I can definately tell a difference already in the amount of food I can eat. I'm glad to have the restriction again because it helps me control my portions. I still have to be careful about what I eat. Good luck everyone! -

Update... I did have a slight slip on my band. The doc removed over half of the Fluid and has started gradually putting it back in. I got back in a couple of weeks for another fill. I'm hoping this gets me back to good restriction. The bad news... I gained 14 pounds during the unfill process. I'm hoping this next fill gets me back on track. Bobbi

Acid Reflux and other complications
LapBandBobbi replied to tsilva_013's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The exact same thing happened to me. I hadn't had a fill in 10 months then all of a sudden I started getting the acid reflux. It got so bad I couldn't sleep at night. I finally went in for an esophogram and sure enough, my band had slipped a little. They took out over half of my Fluid and are gradually putting it back in now. I've gained 14 pounds in 3 months, but feel much much better. I think one more fill should do the trick for me. Don't wait too long before you call your doctor. Normally a slight unfill will readjust the band if it did slip. Good luck! -
I had the same symptons you did... acid reflux. After a couple doctors visits and an esophogram they determined my band had slipped. The doc to most of the Fluid out for 4 weeks. I went back (gained 8 lbs) and he put a little back in. Fast forward 4 weeks, I had another fill yesterday (gained 6 lbs). He said one more fill should get me back to good restriction. My problem during this whole "un-banding" was being able to control what I was eating. I didn't have any restriction and seemed to want to snack constantly. I'm on liquids today and soft foods tomorrow. I just need to readjust my thinking on what I'm eating! Good luck to you!

Lap Band and Hcg?
LapBandBobbi replied to Damander's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am curious as well. A friends doctor put her on HCG for her 6 month pre-op diet. She is losing at a good rate. I had never heard of this diet until she told me about it. She was also very surprised that her doctor put her on it. I would love to hear other thoughts on this. -
Can my job cut my hours?
LapBandBobbi replied to killerhighlights's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If your doctor didn't release you to be able to do your "full-time" job, there may not be much you can do about it. Hopefully, the people doing your job while you're recovering don't push to take it from you full time. Good luck! -
Difficulty accepting weight loss
LapBandBobbi replied to blackmajyk's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there. It took me losing 50 pounds before I could really see a difference. Then, it's hard to believe sometimes that you can actually shop in the "normal" department at the stores. After 50 lbs, I noticed I would go down a size every 10 lbs. It's awesome! -
I'm right there with you! It sucks to have fluid taken out of your band. I've gained 10-12 lbs in the last 2 months. I go in a couple of weeks for another fill. Hope it gets me back to some restriction. I think the key is to control our eating on our own. It is very hard to do though!

Scrambled eggs for me are a big problem and have been for several months. I can however eat fried or hard boiled eggs. I do miss my scrambled eggs with cheese But it is a small price to pay on the way to lose weight!

I just got Fluid put back in my band after having it taken out because of a possible slip. I had the fluid removed about 5 weeks ago and went in yesterday to start having it refilled. I gained 8 pounds over the 5 weeks (thank goodness it wasn't more) and my doc was okay with that. He started with a moderate fill but said we will need to be careful because I could react differently and may not need as much as I had before. I feel like I'm starting all over again, but I am so glad I am back on track and have my mindset to do well, just as when I first had my surgery. It's amazing how gaining 8 pounds makes you feel. I definately don't want to do that again! I have about 30 pounds left to lose and am eager to get it moving in the right direction again! Just wanted to share. Good luck to everyone out there!

Gallbladder Issues, Removal, Post Surgery Diet
LapBandBobbi replied to Acadia's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks for the info. I am in the same situation and need to have my gallbladder out in the next few weeks. I have been putting it off until summer, and my doc said to stick to a bland diet. I recovered quickly from the lapband surgery and am hoping for the same with the gallbladder surgery. -
scared...

I would ask your doctor about how the meds would affect the band. Better safe than sorry. -

Is it possible a bandster can get undernourished?
LapBandBobbi replied to sassyfrass's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I believe it's all in the food choices. I have gone through different stages of how much food I can eat and have never felt "undernourished". -
Esophageal Spasms
LapBandBobbi replied to onthego317's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had the same thing happen to me and had 3.5cc of 5.5cc taken out of my band. I had severe acid reflux and when I did the barium swallow I could see the reflux coming back up. Since he did the unfill, I feel great! I'm very worried about gaining weight over the next couple of weeks but I'm determined to watch what I eat and exercise. My goal is to lose a few pounds before I go back to the doctor. Good luck to you! -
2wk or Long Pre-Op Diet
LapBandBobbi replied to CTMommy22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with vlp1968 about the liver. My pre-op was suppose to be14 days bu was actually 12 days because they scheduled the surgery sooner. I'm surprised they want you to do liquids for a month. They may put you on protien diet first then put you on liquids for the last two weeks. Good luck! No matter what it is worth it. Just talk yourself thru it everyday and know that it is only temporary. -
Yes, I am on myfitnesspal with the same user name LapBandBobbi

I know what you mean about the hunger pains. I felt my first one yesterday in a year and a half. My doctor warned me that I would be hungry between meals, but I could control what I put in my mouth. I go back to the doctor in 2-3 weeks. I am setting a personal goal to have lost 5 pounds by then. Let's all support each other during this trying time! Good luck to all of you!
