How does the lap band keep you from getting hungry
LapBandBobbi replied to babettegriffin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
adagray - My surgeon told me the same thing. My daughter has been banded for 2 years now and she said she is never hungry. I can't wait to get there! I've only had 2 fills so far. -
Need Advice Re: Co-workers
LapBandBobbi replied to DebraC10's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was open with my co-workers. Most of them have been very supportative and a few just curious and asked a lot of questions. I do find they ask me how much I've lost "alot". So, now I just respond with it's a slow process and I've decided to put my scales away, so I just don't know anymore. Good luck! Embrace your decision and don't let anyone else ruin it for you! -
How much did you lose on post-op diet?
LapBandBobbi replied to prdmommyof3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 12 lbs post-op before my first fill. Then.... I came to a sudden halt and did not lose any weight the next week :smile2: I think most of the problem is making the adjustments in my lifestyle and food choices. I found that I couldn't eat as much as before and would quit eating when I was full, but my food choices and grazing throughout the day hurt. I just had a 2nd fill this week and am determined to keep my eating under control. I have made a goal to lose 10 lbs before my next fill. I have also made a decision to put my scales away and not weigh myself until I go back to the doctor. I found myself weighing every day and it would get very discouraging seeing the lbs go up and down all the time. Hopefully, this helps! -
HELP and encouragement
LapBandBobbi replied to Chellz423's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've decided to abandon my scales! I have gone 1 month without losing any weight and I think it's because I step on the scales everyday. Up and down the same 2-3 lbs. It's very frustrating. So, I've committed to only get weighed when I go to the doc for a fill. I just had a fill yesterday and go back on May 10th. Wish me luck! I think the scales are stressful and evil sometimes! :smile2: -
What is causing this?
LapBandBobbi replied to Woodstock girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc recommends clear liquids for 24 hrs after a fill, then protien shakes for 2 days. Then start on mushies before moving on to regular foods. -

Up in the air!
LapBandBobbi replied to NurseMichael's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have only been banded since January, but feel 100x better. Not only because I am losing weight (slowly) but overall feel wonderful. I no longer have the "over-stuffed" feeling after eating, because I only eat until I'm satisified. So far I have no regrets! Good luck on your decision. -
I understand where you're coming from. My problem is eating the wrong things!!! I know I shouldn't eat the "bad" stuff, but sometimes I still eat out of boredom. Today I decided to go back on liquids until I can drop about 5 lbs and break thru my yo-yo 2 lbs since my fill on 3/8. I go back for my 2nd fill on 4/7 and hope I've lost something!

Feeling after the first fill
LapBandBobbi replied to laurag23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my first fill on 3/8 and don't have any restriction. I've keep losing and gaining the same 2 lbs. Very frustrating! I go for another fill 4/7. Hope this helps some. My doc will only fill 1cc per month, so it can take awhile to feel the restriction  -
2 pounds on 2 pounds off......frustrated!!
LapBandBobbi replied to Megg40's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand how you feel. I had my first fill on March 8th and have been up and down the same two lbs for 2 weeks. Frustrating.... I go for another fill on 4/7. Hoping I lose at least 2 lbs before the fill. -

Tish - Sorry to hear your friend had so much trouble at Dr. McEwen's office. I believe they have had a lot of turnover with their staff over the past couple of years. My daughter was banded by him 2 years ago and she had some problems with making appointments, but nothing to bad. She was also a self-pay. I am happy so far with the support I've received from their staff. Maybe they've finally gotten it together. Good Luck in the future! -

Has anyone gained all of their weight back?
LapBandBobbi replied to tootie_belle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daughter had her lapband surgery 2 years ago and lost 85 lbs. Over the next year, she got married, went on her honeymoon and settled into her new life and gradually gained back 27 lbs. When she went to the doc with me for my initial visit (2 months ago), she got a fill and has since lost 17 lbs. She's back closer to her goal weight. The doctor told her that those who come in on a regular basis tend to keep their weight loss on track. Go back to your doctor and have regular checkups. I think this keeps you accountable and more proactive. Good luck! -
How long before you loved your Band?
LapBandBobbi replied to delopez3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have loved my band from the beginning. I love the way I feel because I can no longer "over-eat" and have that stuffed feeling. I physically feel much better. Sometime, I would like to eat some bad stuff, but after a few bites I don't want anymore. So, overall this new tool is working with me and for me! Love It! -

Tish - I see you're from Noblesville. I had my surgery there. Can I ask who you doctor is? I went to Dr. McEwen. He only adds 1cc ea month. So far I've only had 1 fill and go back next month for a 2nd. I feel a little restriction, but haven't really lost much weight since the fill. -
Just hang in there and push through it. I went through the same thing before I could start eating regular foods again. It's worth the wait.

What a great accomplishment so far! Congratulation on the 100 lb mark! Hang in there, I'm sure you've hit plateau's along the way. Just keep doing what you've been doing. GOOD LUCK!

how do your spouses feel about your choice?
LapBandBobbi replied to dontgoggilme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am very lucky to have a husband who supported my decision to have lap-band. Before we were married, I tried to get approved by my insurance, but was denied. After we were married, I went on his insurance and was approved right away. He has been by my side every step of the way and has been very supportative! What a wonderful man! -
I think I need to get away from the scales. I weigh myself every day and get depressed because I'm not losing like I should. I have gone 2 weeks and bounce up and down 2-4 lbs. Jen - I like your idea of measuring. I haven't measured myself at all yet. Maybe I'll do that tonight. Good luck everyone!

Can't Feel My Port????
LapBandBobbi replied to mears06's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your stomach is probably still a little bloated from the surgery. It took me a couple of weeks before I felt mine, now I easily find it. Sometimes just leaning against the counter I can feel it.
