    Let's Start Here!!

Wow, I was the last person to post almost a year ago, well its been almost 4 years and I have to get my band removed-the tubing disconnected/broke and is currently poking my diaphram and spleen. I'm pretty sure I wont be getting a revision/sleeve procedure. I have had several years of complications (mostly minor until now). I wonder if any of the nurses that posted before are still doing good with the band.

    Anybody home?

Your bar shows that you are doing great, I wish you the best!!
  3. I would definetly enter into the lawsuit. My band actually broke...well the tubing did, not "misplacement of the band by the doctor" or "not eating/maintaining my band correctly" the damned tubing completly disconnected from the band and is currently (yes today) "poking" my diaphram/spleen...not a complication that is noted ANYWHERE in the literature. Also, apparently, not the emergency I believe it to be. I guess if I actually puncture my diaphram or spleen and get rushed into the ER, then I can get this thing out timely. I have been researching and I cant find any lawyers willing to take the band companies on, Alleron just redirects the lawsuits to the doctors who place/advertise the bands and they say its their faults...then you have to fight a malpractice lawsuit instead of injurious medical equipment lawsuit...If you find a lawer...I'm in!!!

    Lap-Band Failure Rates

I was banded about 4 years ago, knew there were risks but my band actually broke!! the tubing from my port to the band completely broke. I'm not sure why but I did throw up quite severly after eating some bad seafood-lots of dry heaving and stuff. A couple days later I started having major pain in my left abdomen, radiating to my neck (in the bones). I had an EKG (they thought it was cardiac at first), then an ultrasound (then they thought it was gallstones-even though the results were negative-crazy doctors) THEN I had a CT with oral AND IV contrast...wow...thats when they told me my band tubing was broken and "poking" me in the spleen and diaphram. Now I get to go through MORE testing (endoscopy) to see if I am ALSO erroded (because it is so common now) before they even schedule me for surgery...I will be having the band removed. It has not worked for me(no weight loss-at all) but I will admit that most of that is my "fault" as I was unable to maintain the adjustments due to insurance and was not as restricted as I could have been, but the complications are just too risky for me-mother of a great 10 year old. I was on a running program before the band broke, so hope to get back to that soon. Has anyone else had a "broken tubing issue" its not just leaking but completely (for lack of more technical term) severed...

Hi I'm Christene from Oregon, I'm a RN and Director of Health Services (cumbersome title) of an Assisted Living Senior Community. I had the Lap-Band in 2011...I have post op insurance horror stories (work switched me from BCBS to Kaiser-they do not support the band AT ALL...so I got told to eat right and exercise-like that has worked for me all those years)...But I am finally getting back into a good mindset and will be switching back to a supportive insurance...and have a treadmill...I am hoping to be able to help others who have been stuck at a non-weight loss point to get back on track.
