OK to sleep on my port side?

I am ever so happy to report that I slept like a baby! A full 7.5 UNINTERUPTED hours of sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't do that without a port in my side! hehehe. Ambien, I love you. hehehe Glad I took it. I guess I was afraid of my new pouch handling the effects differently.

OK to sleep on my port side?

Ok...so here I am; one Ambien later. I'm really hoping this works. I was a little nervous, but my last percocet was at 7:00...and it's nearly 11. I just want 5 hours uninterrupted!

Why is chocolate a No No?

Thanks Alexandra; you answered it for me. I was under the impression that it was a No No, somehow bad for the band. If I treat myself now and then with some chocolate (1 time a month for my PMS)...I would like to when I can!

OK to sleep on my port side?

I do have my Ambien, but wasn't sure it was such a great idea, considering I'm still taking percocet. I guess this is a question for my surgeon.

    January Bandsters???

Hey Marjon, Again - thank you for the great post! I am one of the newly banded folks that is terrified of a PB! I cry when I vomit preband. I dread the thought of it - its just something that I have to deal with. I bought baby forks and spoons to help me out with portion control for when I go to mushies and then solids. If I didn't do that, I'd be PBing immediately for sure. :hungry:

    Steri Strip Seepage??

Marjon, Thank you a million times over for your reply. If it weren't for this board, making me know these things are 'normal', I'd be on the phone dialing the surgeon like crazy! Sorry to hear that 2 1/2 weeks out you're still going through this issue. I suppose it's just the body and it's way of healing itself. Could be worse, I could have stiches or staples, and I don't. Again thank you for the heads up! Sheri

    January Bandsters???

HELL YES, I'm terrified of solids foods at this point. Can't even have mushies until 2/15...but even they scare me. My thing is that I'm so afraid of PBing. I know it's bound to happen; I just don't want it to! I suppose I better stop drinking with my soups at this point; again to break the habit!
  8. Someone had posted a food journal today that they loved so much; said I could get it on Amazon. I can't find who had it! Any suggestions?????

    January Bandsters???

Hey Tracey, Thanks so much for the suggestion! The sour cream sounds HEAVENLY right about now!!!!! Mom made her "jewish penicillin" - good old chicken soup. I was wondering if I could take that chicken and blend it up at all?

    January Bandsters???

I'd like to know if drinking w/meals is ok during this stage as well. I've not listened to that rule yet; but I'm on all liquids. I don't get mushies until 14 days out. I guess I'll be trying every type of soup out there! I may add cottage cheese tomorrow. Anyone have any suggestions for 'fancy'-ing it up??

    Is this GURGLING normal?

If THAT is truth - then LET ME ROAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    January Bandsters???

Just checking in. Alot of trial and error today. I did put the cream soups in the ultimate chopper; it made them very 'fluffy'...I won't do that again. I'd rather just take out any chunks that might be in there. I did attempt to put the flavorless protein powder in the cream soup; didn't work out too well. It didn't disolve too well in the cream; but in the clear chicken broth it was PERFECT! Great way to get an additional 17gs of protein! Also had my first Protein Bullet; very good choice for a quick 25gs...a little $$ but worth it right now. I also tried this a.m. the Nectar Roadside tea...didn't care for that one at all. Going to try more of the samples out today. The Vitamin Shoppe near me sells the Fuzzy Navel, I didn't like that one, the tea, and lemonade which was very good. I also tried the Cambells gold box of Butternut squash soup; didn't like it. The muslces in the belly are a bit better today, my pain is more from the port incision. I had the heating pad on for about two hours today, I fell asleep. Luckily didn't burn myself. Anyway, I do have a bit of swelling. I can't imagine what you all go through with the Tummy Tucks - as far as pain goes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Protein drinks - GAG

I LOVE my "Matrix Simply Vanilla"...even my Mom likes it so much, she's having them too! Also, for a quick 25gs, you can buy the IDS New Whey Liquid Proteins. They taste EXACTLY like Jello. AND best part it's only 3 oz of liquid, so you really get alot of Protein in it! Vitamin Shoppe carries it. Also, I bought a flavorless Protein powder that I've now mixed into everything from my milk to Soups. Can't even tell it's there - and it's 17g/scoop. Keep in mind, you don't want to have more than 40g of protein per meal in powder form. From what I'm told it will be too hard to digest.

    Is this GURGLING normal?

Seems that the growls have subsided a bit today...I was thinking b/c I had some soup today? Really not too many liquids, b/c I fell asleep. I think when I start getting them down again today; the growls might come back.

    Creamy soups; post op

I'm suppose I could add milk too, for some added Protein and to thin it out. I did put the cream of potatoe in my 'Ultimate Chopper' and it came out too fluffy. I heated it anyway, but it was way too thick. I wanted more of a soupy consistency.
  16. Am I supposed to blend down any 'chunks' that might be in the creamy soups; mushroom, chicken, potato, shrimp? Not sure.
  17. Hey all, Was banded on Tuesday; its not been 'easy'. So anyone who EVER tells me that I took the easy way out will catch a beating! Pain in the stomach is so much worse than I had expected. I suppose I was ignorant - who knows. I mean, I'll live. It's just that now, two days later I'm getting the worst of the gas bubbles - and it's hell - beware. I haven't had food since Sunday; and I'm not hungry. I know this will go away; and the hunger will hit me at some point. I laid awake last night again (can't sleep comfortably at all)...wondering - what have I done? I'm a wreck about my future. I don't doubt my ability to follow Bandster rules - I am a very compliant patient. What worries me at this moment in time are things like "Is this sip too big". WHAT??? Too big of a sip of Water? Seems so crazy. Maybe its that I'm still sensitive emotionally after the anesthesia. Then reading up on the booklet from the actual 'Lap Band Company'...how much they stress - DO NOT VOMIT. EVER?? OMG - and if I do - I'll be damned to hell. Good lord, I'm terrorized right now. When will my 'normal' come to me? Months, years? Will I ever feel normal, for a Bandster? I'm going through episodes of the 'shakes'...no fever, could be the pain, pressure or emotions. Sorry all; just had to vent. Sheri Lynn

    Recovery Time??

This is my day three post op; and I can't even imagine leaving the house early in the a.m., taking a 1 hour commute, and working all day. Seriously; I can't even imagine doing it next week at this time! The night of surgery and night two - omg; forget it. Last night, I hardly slept in the bed. I'm not a back sleeper and that's really all I'm limited to right now. I get very stiff also.

In need of some success stories

Hey Ryan...Just be careful of the refried beans if you're still having issues with the gas pains; don't want to add insult to injury!
  20. I was banded on Tuesday and our experiences are IDENTICAL! My gas pains didn't come until later on day 2...so beware - they suck! I'm trying to walk and walk to alleviate the discomfort. I did for 'liquids'; jello, apple juice, water, and broth. Just mash up the jello really well.

    January Bandsters???

I am so worried about getting dehydrated that I'm really doing a good job at forcing liquids down. First 48 was clear liquids and today I was allowed to add protein shake; so I did whey into my chicken broth. Had an ice pop, some apple juice, jello. Can go to full liquids on Saturday...I'll try every soup out there. Trying not to let it get monotonous. Gas pains are rough; I too had an 'accident' today - thank the lord I wore a Poise pad just incase. My bandages came off as well, just left with steri strips. TINY little incisions; but the port looks larger than I thought it would be. But I'm not getting up close and personal with it either. Going to try to sleep in the bed tonight; the recliner is NOT good for sleeping.

    Here come my 'after' doubts

Thanks all. I am kind of in awe of those of you who were 'Great, and back to work in two days'. I can't even imagine. You are superheros! I can't turn back now, I can only face my future head on, and know I'll get back to a normal. It won't be the normal I was pre-band. But it will be 'routine'. I feel jarred now - routine is better!!! :omg:

    Banding 1/30

Hey Gigi, Was also banded the 30th. PAIN in my belly; especially the port area. As for these gas bubbles, up and down - OUCH! I just keep trying to walk them out!
