    September 7 - Surgery Day

It was a success. The doctor said I did great. I have 5 incisions, but I don't mind. I don't think I'll ever be worried about wearing a bikini lol. I'm starting at a very high BMI so even if I lose a LOT of weight I will have a lot of skin to still hide! I'm about to take a dose of pain killer and lie down. I hope things go well for you. I'm excited to have a new leash on life!

    September 7 - Surgery Day

I'm so excited! I'm feeling nervous. My surgeon provided me with a binder of information but I'm still worried and unsure what will happen. I hope to meet some others that are beginning their surgery around the same time as me!

Cookbooks or Books on Lapband Support

Thanks guys, this is what I'm looking for, personal opinion on what works for others! I like reading but being on a tight budget makes me have to aim for 1 or 2 most recommended books.
  6. Does anyone have any recommendations for books for additional support for lapband surgery? Also, any recommendations for cookbooks? I've seen a few on Amazon but I always want more resources lol.

60 Day Liquid Diet - Countdown

Thanks for all the encouragement! I'm on the end of day 13 and I'm down a little over 20 pounds. I opted to purchase the EAS shakes from Walmart at half the price that the doctor's office was offering. I am to have 5 to 6 a day. I supplement it with broth and sugar free jello and lots of water and off brand calorie free crystal light. I have lost control a few times. The first weekend I totally messed up one day - having an emotional breakdown with just the pressure of having to get through 60 days! But now if I break down or have a moment of weakness I have a cup of salad greens with 1/8 cup of tuna, no dressing, nothing else and skip a shake. It gives me the chewing satisfaction and the tuna gives me the protein the doctor wants. It's true what they say - when you're hungry you will eat anything. I have never liked salad nor tuna. I have 47 days left and I know that I can make it through and onto the next stages of my new way of eating. I know after surgery I will still be on liquids but having the light at the end of the tunnel helps.

60 Day Liquid Diet - Countdown

Today is day 3 and I am absolutely starving today! I have had 2 of the shakes, 2 cups of broth, 1 jello, 3 bottles of water but my tummy is still growling and I have to 'go' all the time! I'm miserable but I still have 57 more days to go. My surgeon told me that they would schedule me for 4 weeks out depending on how I go this first week. It's not fun. The nutritionist said to me when she laid out the rules - it's just 60 days compared to the rest of your life. but day 3 already feels like the rest of my life - lol:mad2:
  9. Today was my first day for my 60 day high protein liquid VLC diet that my surgeon ordered. Wow - it was much harder than I was expecting. I cheated a tiny bit by having a bite of my sons steak. boo. But, I wrote it down in the journal they gave me. I will fess up to my mistakes! I'm worn out and I haven't really done anything today. I don't know if I can do all 60 days. 59 more days seems like a lifetime.

    Feeling Let down

Today was my consultation and introduction to my surgeon and his practice. I am completely feeling let down! First he refuses to operate unless I lose 50 lbs, he prefers 100. I understand the thoughts I guess. I have an extremely high BMI. (68) Also, I understand that the higher the BMI at surgery time the less effective the lapband is. That I can learn to live with. But then he suggested that I have the bypass (after telling him I did not want it) I smiled and stood my ground. I listened and didn't close off to the idea but I want the least amount of evasive procedure and side effects and the lapband has proven to have those. The center got my business because they were offering a flat rate price for 2 years of aftercare. (fills) Then to come to find out to be a center of excellence they can't operate on anyone above 55 BMI and in that case I don't qualify for the 2 years of aftercare. What a waste of my consultation fees! But it didn't stop there! After meeting with the nurse, the doctor, the insurance lady, they had me meet the nutritionist. Apparently I can only follow their diet for not 1, 2, 3 weeks pre-op but 4! A cost of over 500 dollars! I just shilled out the money out of my pocket for the consultation fees. I'm frustrated, broke, and just feeling let down. Don't get me wrong. I did like the surgeon. He seems to know about the lapband and has done many many hundreds and has a fantastic track record. I'm just wondering why it has to be so difficult and expensive! I am on such a tight budget and yet my life is at risk. Sigh. I just wanted to vent.
