I have been overweight since I was in kindergarten. I've lost up to 70 lbs in the past, but gained it all back. I've been considering weight loss surgery for years, and after a lot of research, decided banding was the best idea for me. I got serious about surgery after I was diagnosed with type II diabetes in March of last year. My mother died from complication created by her diabetes. She was blind, could barely walk, and had severe heart and kidney problems. She died at 68 years old. I'm 34 and I don't want to be half through with my life. I have so much more to accomplish. The Lap-Band seemed good for me because I don't have a sweet tooth, I'm not an emotional eater; my biggest problem is that I'm hungry and I eat until I'm full and it takes a lot to fill me up. The idea of eating a handful of food and being full sounds wonderful to me.I went to the seminar describing the procedure in May 2009. After submitting a history, I was seen by the surgeon and told I was a candidate for the surgery in June 2009. After a check with my insurance, it was found that they would cover it if certain criteria were met. In July 2009, I began a six-month doctor-supervised diet. In November 2009, I had a psych evaluation and nutritional evaluation. In January 2010 all my paperwork was sent to my insurance company and on January 21, 2010, I received a call from the surgeon's office to schedule my surgery! My surgery is scheduled for March 31, 2010. This will be just 15 days after my 35th birthday!
